Daily Inspiration, July 12th

“…wherever two or three people come together in my name, I am there, right among you!” (Matthew 18: 20, JB Phillips New Testament)

Let us remember the great power we have when we join with one another for good. Whether we are two or a full congregation, coming together with a purpose of praise and love for God and mankind, is a healing event.

For when we do this, the Christ is with us. We are not alone and attempting to make our lives or the world a better place. We have the great wisdom and love of the Christ-Truth in that space with us. We have that inspired Word revealing gifts of guidance and protecting our holy cause. We are in a true sanctuary and this is where things happen.

And let us remember, too, that even when we come together with a common purpose and divergent opinions, the Christ is there as well. It is there to reveal the One Mind’s intention for everyone, in a way that is mutually blessing, satisfying, and progressive.

Let’s know that the Christ comes with authority and tender loving-kindness into our gatherings. And this spirit of Truth and healing Love also attends us and prepares the way when we feel we are in it alone. At these times, we can be reminded that the Christ is with us, so we are accompanied by a friend, a helper, the very Truth that sets us free.

“Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me. There is more than enough room in my Father’s home. If this were not so, would I have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And you know the way to where I am going.” (John 14: 1-2, 4)

Ease your troubled hearts and minds. Take in this assuring, comforting, promise. Jesus meant it for you. He is inviting you into your rightful place, your rightful experience with God, divine Life and Love.

You can’t be left out. God’s infinite presence and Love makes His embracing home forever at hand. Jesus prepared the way by defining the path. He recognized and proved that the Christ, the awareness of man’s oneness with God as His child, sets us free to live that reality, claim that birthright. Right now.

And this true state of our being grants us a place of safety, serenity, satisfaction, comfort, beauty. The mansions of God are many, and they are not obscure or distant, nor are our resources too paltry to participate. We are the children of God and we know the way. We have been given that Truth, within our hearts, and we do know where we are going. We are able to hear guidance. We are ready and worthy. We are at the door and our Father-Mother is welcoming us in.

“My children, let us not love merely in theory or in words—let us love in sincerity and in practice!” (I John 3: 18, JB Phillips New Testament)

We can talk of love and of goodness. We can discuss the benefits of being compassionate and kind. We can contribute to various causes and sign petitions. These do have value, but only in so much that we are truly sincere.

The most powerful and meaningful thing we can do is to love. It is not to merely speak of this quality or to despise those who do not feel or act in a loving way. If we are to be God’s ideas, express the intention of the Almighty, we must love from the heart. This is true might and it is also where we find healing, serenity, and happiness.

It may seem difficult at times to truly and honestly love. We feel hurt or angry. Or perhaps it feels easier to remain ignorant of the need for true loving-kindness in the world. It is just too big a burden.

But love is not a personal quality that is a weighty load to carry or difficult to find. Love is God, and God is expressing Himself at all times and in all ways. Our call is to unite with that Love, to agree with its presence and to yield to its all-encompassing embrace.

This divine Love is always coming to us and we can reflect it back out into our own lives and into the world. This will be healing as it is sincere and as we put it into practice, one opportunity at a time. There will always be a reason to love and there will always be a blessing in doing it!

Daily Inspiration, July 3rd

“And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.” (Mark 13: 37)

Jesus spoke forcefully to his disciples. He was giving them the guidance they would need going forward, without his personal presence to lead and inspire.

They were being told to “watch.” Jesus wanted them to stay alert, to be ready for the Christ at all times, and to be awake enough to recognize the Truth from the lie. He was asking them to keep that eternal flame alive, the one that had been ignited within them as they witnessed Jesus’s life, words, and works. This flame must also be a light to keep them conscious, wide-eyed, ready.

Jesus clearly included us all in the call to watchfulness. We also must remain at the ready, on guard, not sleeping on the job. This watch requires us to be discerning, to use the Truth Jesus proclaimed and demonstrated as our guide to exposing the lie, seeing the counterfeit “Christ” attempting to gain our trust and worship.

We are to watch our thought. We are watching in the manner that Jesus did, awake to God and His presence and Love. Anything that opposes this Love, the Oneness of Mind, we must watch out for. This requires discipline, but it shouldn’t feel like a burden.

For to watch for the Christ, for the Truth to be revealed, is to watch with God—it is to unite with that One Mind that is in control, that abides no lies. And so our watch is not all about standing guard rigidly and somberly. It is about being awake to witness the glory of God, and to feel the Love that is real and powerful and ours to know and to eagerly share.

Daily Inspiration, June 28th

“O Lord, how many and varied are Your works! In wisdom have You made them all; the earth is full of Your riches and Your creatures.” (Psalms 104: 24, Amplified Bible Classic Edition)

Let’s join in this wonderful song of praise! Just like the psalmist, we can truly behold what God has made and rejoice in His handiwork.

I love the excitement in this verse, the real thrill at recognizing and acknowledging the variety in God’s creation. He both wisely and artistically formed a world and its peoples full of diverse ideas, all made to express the infinitude of His own nature. And that nature includes nothing that isn’t Love—lovely, lovable, loved.

We can take this true perspective, the one celebrated here, wherein we don’t take for granted God’s masterful and manifold creatures. We can open our eyes to the real glory to be found in each one of us—we who are at times so vastly different and yet alike in Source and equal in worth. We can behold and treasure the abundance of God’s goodness in all that we see and that we are. And we can stay poised to experience more of these true riches around us every day—in those we meet, in nature, in art, in music, and in ourselves!

Daily Inspiration, June 14th

Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6: 2, New English Translation)

Oh, my! I can’t even carry my own burdens. How can I be expected to carry another’s? I do want to follow Christ, to fulfill the law of eternal Life and Love, but I’m a bit overwhelmed right now.

These thoughts are understandable. But we can remember that this admonition to us is also a promise. Paul knew that to bear witness to the Truth that Jesus taught and proved, was to know freedom and blessings. Christ was showing us how to act like the children of God we are. And that is not burden, it is release to reality, to peace, to joy, and to fruition.

This is the law of Christ. And it is founded on Love and proved through Love’s activity. So, we must embrace others in understanding, extend helpfulness, be awake to needs and step up to assist. This is simply being who we are. And this caring for others is not a heavy weight on us or even one shared with another human. Our love expressed is God expressed, and it brings with it His strength, His capacity, His clarity, His serene confidence and care.

Carrying another’s burdens is simply accepting the presence of Love and being a part of that Love. And this means not only that we do God’s good work, but that we, too, can allow ourselves to receive help, to be open to opportunities for others to give us aid, solace, a lift when we most need it. This is Love in full—expressed and received, the perfect balance of goodness.

Daily Inspiration, June 12th

“The Master’s injunction is, that we pray in secret and let our lives attest our sincerity.” (Science and Health, page 15)

While we may find times that public worship, congregational prayer, or a fellowship of praise feels right and uplifting, this is not the most vital thing we can do. Jesus taught his followers that true prayer was a private thing, a secret time with God. In this intimate space with divine Truth and Love, we find real healing and peace.

And we also find ourselves. In this uncluttered, undistracted, individual experience with God, we are able to truly hear what God would have us hear. Because we aren’t on display or trying to prove anything, we can and should be our honest selves, with the key quality of receptivity. The secret to success is to listen. It is to yield. It is also to know this prayerful place is not one that we are manufacturing. It is a sanctuary that God has constructed, designed to save, bless, and reveal reality.

As we take this admonition to heart and earnestly listen for God to tell us who we are and what is true, we are able then to live rightly. We attest to the sincerity of our prayer, its genuine willingness, its conscious devotion, by living a life that is in accord with what we have felt, seen, realized in those quiet moments with God.

We don’t need to be preaching to be praising. We don’t need to be in a public place of worship to be healing. We don’t need to shout our faith to prove we are worthy. We can simply yet powerfully live the gratitude that our secret prayer has given us.

Daily Inspiration, June 7th

“Now faith means putting our full confidence in the things we hope for, it means being certain of things we cannot see…it is after all only by faith that our minds accept as fact that the whole scheme of time and space was created by God’s command—that the world which we can see has come into being through principles which are invisible.” (Hebrews 11: 1-3, JB Phillips New Testament)

Faith is a powerful thing. It may also feel elusive to the rational human mind. We may find it difficult to believe what we cannot see, and to trust what is not validated by matter and the senses.

But faith is something we really do need and that is also natural to us. God has given us a feeling of hope. He has caused us to respond to those ideas and qualities that transcend the human experience and reveal something higher, deeper, more beautiful. We know these moments of awareness can take us to a place of reverence and expectation.

This is faith. It is a response within to what is true and real. We have it. What we must do is cultivate it, believe it, and remember with grateful joy that all that we wish to be true—God’s harmonious and loving creation and government—is actually true.

We can’t fathom the Mind of God. But we can relish it. We can accept it. We can choose the reality that opens up goodness and light and order and justice in our lives. With this premise in thought, we can begin to feel the effects. This faith brings heaven to our earth, and lifts the burden that the ego, the limited doubter, would try to put on our truly expansive, expressive, and fruitful lives.

Daily Inspiration, June 5th

“Eternity, not time, expresses the thought of Life, and time is no part of eternity. One ceases in proportion as the other is recognized.” (Science and Health, page 468)

We exist in the eternal Now. We truly are not living a life that is bound in time—in hours, days, years, and the unfair material limits these concepts would put on us.

God is Life and He is eternal. He is also kind. True existence is the expression of God’s own being and it is neither advanced by time nor lost in it. God’s presence is active completeness, revealing itself without measure, end, or restriction.

It certainly does seem as if everything in our lives is influenced by time. It appears to govern our lives in the day to day and over the course of a lifetime. But, we can begin to gain a more expansive sense of life as we recognize eternity. As we consciously replace a belief in time with a trust in the infinite forever, in God as Life that is boundless and timeless, we open up ourselves to better moments, brighter days, and time loses its hold on us.

We may not completely break loose of time in this moment, but an awareness of its flimsy pretensions allows us to transcend its hold on us and to live more freely, joyfully, and still with a precision and rightness that God’s Love and control always provides.

Daily Inspiration, May 31st

“All eyes look to you, hoping, and you give them their food right on time, opening your hand and satisfying the desire of every living thing.” (Psalms 145: 15-16, Common English Bible)

God is the Source. He has within His Own Being the very substance of Life, and He expresses it with precision and with Love.

No one is left out of God’s caring providence. He encompasses the expanse of infinity with His presence and activity. We are always at the point of receiving His daily, hourly grace. Each one of us can turn our eyes to God, in understanding faith—in the knowledge of God as unconditional Life and boundless Love.

Our food is our needed human supplies, like the daily manna that was demonstrated to Moses, but it goes beyond that. God feeds us generously with the right idea at the right time. He gives us comfort when we are anxious. He gives us strength when we are afraid. He gives us insights when we need guidance. He gives us a laugh when we most need joy.

Let’s turn our eyes eagerly to God, with hope and expectancy. He is able to satisfy your right desires and those of one and all, and all with His perfect timing!
