“Keep turning your back on every sin, and make ‘peace’ your life motto. Practice being at peace with everyone.” (Psalms 34: 14, The Passion Translation)
What a short and powerfully sweet motto! To focus on and practice peace is surely a wonderful life purpose. This daily intention can do so much for our own sense of well-being, for those around us, and for our greater world.
If we can center our thought on the idea of peace in any situation, we can find our connection with God, where true power resides. If we can make it a point to bring thought around to both feeling and promoting peace, we can achieve natural productivity, health, and harmony.
Every time we are tempted to get riled up—whether toward another, toward a circumstance, or in our own thinking—we can reject that suggestion as non-constructive, unhealthy, and useless. Peace doesn’t mean inaction. It means we let God’s Truth be revealed in right and loving ways that settle us, save us, and preserve our own integrity and that rightful goodness that the world deserves to experience as well.
We can turn to God, the Source of peace, in times of turmoil. We can ask God to show us what would settle and calm this moment and then be willing to receive it. And then we can share this potent gift of peace with others, getting better, with practice, each day.
