“Let us not become vainglorious and self-conceited, competitive and challenging and provoking and irritating to one another, envying and being jealous of one another.” (Galatians 5: 26, Amplified Bible Classic Edition)

This may seem like an obvious way to behave if we are good and caring people. We all likely have a desire to be kind and helpful.

But we must still be alert to these character traits that may subtly disguise themselves as natural, reasonable, or justified. When we commit ourselves to good thoughts and works, we may be susceptible to the temptation to feel we are better than others. The attention that may be given to us can begin to go to our heads.

Likewise, if we feel less than secure and worthy, we may compare ourselves, feel like victims, be jealous and petty, or look always for evil in another. Neither feeling lesser than others nor feeling conceited is wise. And it isn’t based on Truth.

As we let go of the ego that is down on itself or gives itself too much power, we can begin to feel more content and to show a natural respect and appreciation for others. Humbly yielding to God and His goodness, we lose that personal sense that is so touchy and afraid, and we can simply and gratefully enjoy the fact that God made us all. God loves each of us fully and equally, and we can find our genuine joy and true satisfaction in loving one another just as He loves us.

“Turn your back on sin; do something good. Embrace peace—don’t let it get away!” (Psalms 34: 14, the Message Bible)

Anger and dissension, fear and selfishness, can seem like a reasonable way to think and act at times. It can feel more natural to go against our higher angels—the goodness in us—and to just play the game and give in to the world’s pull to division and darkness.

But we do have a choice. We can see the temptation to be less than our best selves for the devilish suggestion it is. We can decide to turn away from the bad and to do something good. We can start with a simple act of gratitude. We can do a kindness to another. We can recognize goodness rather than focusing on or hunting for error, in ourselves or in others.

We can embrace peace! We can realize that natural serenity and calm in our hearts and share it with the world. We can take a stand for peace and actively protect it. We can truly love that sense of harmony, God’s loving Truth of us all, and let peace be our motive, our protection, and our guide.

“Love the Lord your God. Obey him. Stay close to him. He is your life.” (Deuteronomy 30: 20, International Children’s Bible)

Here is a clear instruction for us to hear and heed. This verse tells us what to do and also why we must and can do it. It is guidance that is powerful yet very natural to us.

We can, like little children, love God, our true Parent. We can love what God is—our Creator, the Mind that knows all, the Love that enduringly loves us. We can be grateful for the beauty He has made, for the goodness that is His very nature, and for His unfailing wisdom.

Obedience is not about giving up something good in order to do and be something we don’t want to do or feel incompetent to accomplish. Obeying God is about yielding a personal and limited sense of ourselves to the Truth. It’s about humbly releasing ourselves to God’s version of us and of our lives. This leads to progress, success, and a better awareness of who we really are and of the greater possibilities.

We must stay close to God, to our Life. The mortal sense of life would try to pull us in, to make us think it knows the better way. But this limited life is less than we deserve. And to pull away from God, the immortal Life that is Love, is to miss out on our glory, our joy, on the life that is really worth living.

“Seek (long for, require) good and not evil, that you may live; And so may the Lord God of hosts be with you, Just as you have said! Hate evil and love good, and establish justice in the [court of the city] gate.” (Amos 5: 15-16, the Amplified Bible)

If we really want to live and feel whole, safe, and free, we must be making wise investments. A genuine feeling of well-being and abundance comes as we consciously take a stand against evil and injustice in the world and, most importantly, in our hearts.

We may not always know exactly what to do or behave perfectly, but if we continue to seek good, to really yearn to be better, to love more, to want to do what is right, then we feel supported by God and His grace. We have chosen to obey His nature, those good qualities that are in us and that we can express in the world.

God’s guidance and protection is with us as we seek to uphold His Principle, His Truth of Life as Love. An earnest longing for good—both to live it and to see it established for our world—is empowering, for it aligns with God’s own purpose.

And it is important, as this verse says, not only to love good, but also to hate evil. We can’t simply ignore the evil that would seem to appear in ourselves and in others. We must actively take a stand against it—not by stoking it with our fear or giving it life, but by loving good even more. We can dissolve that sense of evil, promote peace and safety and justice, by our active love and our trust in the power and presence of God, good.

“You canceled my ticket to hell—that’s not my destination! Now you’ve got my feet on the life path, all radiant from the shining of your face. Ever since you took my hand, I’m on the right way.” (Psalms 16: 10-11, the Message Bible)

Your destination is heavenly! God has you by the hand and is leading you forward, protecting you, and loving you all the way.

We may have slipped a bit, got detoured on our life journey. We may feel like we’ve made too many mistakes or that the world is against us. But today, this day, God’s shining face is looking at you with kindness, with assurance, with unfailing and honest and divine affection. Hell is not your destiny. You are on a course for joy, progress, peace.

Let’s feel our hand in God’s—in powerful Truth and goodness—and stop denying our worth, our right to live now as the children of His Life, His harmonious design. It truly is not about our human flaws and history. It is about God. And God is always and forever Love. And you are His, the recipient and reflection of His radiance. You are heaven-bound and safe as you awaken to this reality each new day.

“Trust only in God every moment! Tell him all your troubles and pour out your heart-longings to him. Believe me when I tell you—he will help you!” (Psalms 62: 8, the Passion Translation)

We have a loyal confidante. We have the ear of the Father-Mother and a ready response from Love. We can believe this and turn humbly to God.

There is nothing to be ashamed of. God does not judge our call for help, our need to know Him and His tender power. We can turn to God with hearts open and honest, yet also willing to hear His voice, His guidance, His comfort, His wisdom. God knows us intimately and loves us. He is ready to save us.

So, trust only in God, as this verse tells us. To rely on Him but to also put equal or more faith in others’ words, in our own fears, in time and limit, is to be false to Him, to the One Who truly can help us.

All our yearnings and our cares can find solace and resolution in God the Almighty One, Who is also our forever faithful friend.

“The ‘still, small voice’ of scientific thought reaches over continent and ocean to the globe’s remotest bound. The inaudible voice of Truth is, to the human mind, ‘as when a lion roareth.’ It is heard in the desert and in dark places of fear.” (Science and Health, p. 559)

The scientific Truth, that divine law of Being, can’t fail to be heard, to prove its own ever-present power. God’s thoughts dawn in consciousness and show humanity what is real and right and good.

This holy voice may be still, quiet, but it reverberates across the globe. It does not shout and announce itself through material force, but this active Truth is articulate and mighty. It can be understood and felt. It comes to us with precision to dispel our misconceptions, open our eyes to goodness and our hearts to healing.

This voice enters our thought, wherever we are, and reveals an inner peace. It comforts, calms, and awakens us to infinite possibilities, to answers, to hope, to understanding.

The Word may come gently to us, but the divine whisper is compelling, clear, and full of the certainty of Truth and the tenderness of Love.

“How great is your kindness which you keep for your worshipers, for them that hope in you before the children of men!” (Psalms 31: 19, Aramaic Bible in Plain English)

God is mighty. God is wise. God is infinite. And He is also so very kind.

As we worship God, turn to Him—to Truth and to Love—we can’t fail to feel this great kindness. Our hope in His goodness and our earnest seeking to know and to express His intention in our world, makes us humble recipients of God’s tender compassion.

God’s Love is for one and all. It is as ever-present as He is. And as we understand and willingly accept God’s qualities, the nature of His Being as Life and as Love, we feel His gentle care. We see God as He is and so experience Him rightly, with comfort and healing.

The benevolence and helpfulness of human kindness is a beautiful thing. We cherish this quality in one another. God’s kindness is even greater than this. It is a conscious awareness of just who we are and what we need. It is that powerful and merciful Love that dismisses our arguments and our own doubts, and comes to us with an answer, a touch, of peace.

Let’s continue to put our hope in God and naturally and gratefully feel and express His abundant and holy kindness.

“From now on you are not strangers and people who are not citizens. You are citizens together with those who belong to God. You belong in God’s family.” (Ephesians 2: 19, New Life Version)

We can count ourselves legitimate citizens of heaven. We are God’s own offspring, and we belong. We are not outsiders to divine Love. We are wanted. We are understood. We are part of God’s glorious family.

Let’s remember this divine heritage and condition of our being. Let’s not behave as if we aren’t worthy or that we have no purpose. We are born out of the Father-Mother’s pure and abundant Love, and we are individually designed to uniquely express God’s qualities. We are singularly wonderful, but never alone.

We can remember this invitation to realization. We can see ourselves as true and welcome members of God’s nation of freedom, His home of Soul’s comforts and light and love. We can remember that we have this sweet and constant companionship with God and a rightful place in His family—safe, blessed, and beloved.

“The whole point of what we’re urging is simply love—love uncontaminated by self-interest and counterfeit faith, a life open to God.” (I Timothy 1: 5, the Message Bible)

There is no better point and none more powerful. We are being urged to love. And while it may sound like a simple thing, it requires something of us.

The love that can change lives, that can heal and uplift and bring true justice, is a love that is pure and real. It is a genuine affection that is not forced and that doesn’t require  something in return. To simply love is to express that tender goodness that is God’s own Love for us and in us. It is the truest sense of free love, for it is naturally ours and it is abundantly available to feel and to share.

To access and utilize this love means we must let go of our egos and our neediness and live in a way that is open to God, to grace. This love is humbly receptive and generous. It is unconditional and non-judgmental. And it is ultimately the greatest act we can do for others and the greatest gift we can give to ourselves.
