“Carry one another’s burdens; in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6: 2, Holman Christian Standard Bible)

The law of Christ is the law of everlasting Life and of Love. This divine mandate and its spiritual impelling encourage us to do what is right and what truly blesses us and all. It is loving our neighbor and ourselves. This begins with loving God, the very source of all that is good and right.

Let’s fulfill the law as described here. This fulfillment is not about suffering. It is about leaning on God’s own Love and utilizing it. So, we not only carry another’s burden, but we are carried as well, released to God’s strength, confidence, perfect care for all.

We can be eager to help one another, and also to receive help without pride or guilt. We can be grateful that we are fellow brothers and sisters with Christ, and therefore we can willingly come to the aid of one in need and do what is entirely natural to us. We can show love and compassion, knowing that we can’t be burdened by doing good.

The blessing to another blesses us, too, fulfilling the law of Christ, the powerful law of universal Love.

“And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (Philippians 4: 8, New Living Translation)

Our consciousness is powerful. We may go about doing good works and being nice people, but if our thoughts are not in line with this goodness, we are missing something vital.

We can be alert to what is filling our minds, what we are dwelling on. We can recognize and reject the pull of complaint, criticism, fear, hatred of others, or unloving self-talk. When our thinking is in line with good, with God, we find joy and peace and our lives bring more genuine healing to the world.

We can choose what we think about. We can decide to take time to contemplate what is beautiful and honest, what is pure and healing, what is honorable and kind. This is not just positive thinking. It is about being more true to God and to ourselves as His ideas. It is allowing the divine qualities to have a generous place in our heads and hearts and to naturally reveal experiences that are more right and constructive and satisfying as well.

“The revelation of God is whole and pulls our lives together. The signposts of God are clear and point out the right road. The life-maps of God are right, showing the way to joy.” (Psalms 19: 7-8, Message Bible)

God makes sense of our lives. When we are confused and uncertain—feel we can’t see where we are going and are hung up on where we’ve been—we can find our way in God.

As we set aside our preoccupation with self and sense, time and limits, we are open to receive the revealed truth about ourselves and our lives. God, divine Love, unfolds the reality of our true progress, growth, understanding, as well as what’s next for us.

We can be awake to those spiritual signposts along the way—the indications of healing, gratitude, loving care, grace—and let them guide us forward. In God’s light, we can see the map more clearly, recognize the ways that have not served us well, and the better paths that are full of promise and opportunity.

God’s way is one that is right and purposeful. His map of Life doesn’t lead us to guilt or fear or regret, but to harmony, expectation, peace, and joy!

“Immerse them in the truth, the truth Your voice speaks.” (John 17: 17, the Voice Translation)

Jesus’ prayer for his disciples is one for us all. We can turn to God with our receptivity, our yearning for the truth, and hear His voice, His wisdom and guidance.

We can accept the fullness of God’s presence and His Love and feel immersed in it. We can allow ourselves to let go of the need to stay yoked to the world’s ways and its limits and feel that full submergence in Truth.

We may seek facts, and that is good. But we can go even higher. Material truth can be variable as new information is gained. Or one’s perspective can bring a different interpretation. Divine Truth is stable, reliable. The qualities of Love and its law are trustworthy.

We can immerse ourselves in this pure Love that is Truth. We can feel this all-encompassing spiritual reality and let it inform our days, guide us with grace and goodness. And we can pray for others as Jesus did, trusting the power of this activity to bring peace and inspiration and healing to all.

“Truth’s shining light guides me in my choices and decisions; the revelation of your Word makes my pathway clear.” (Psalms 119: 105, the Passion Translation)

It may seem difficult to know what we should do from one moment to the next. We struggle with our decisions, unsure which way to go. We find ourselves pondering the possibilities and the probabilities, the pros and cons of the choices that arise for us.

Satisfying answers and progress are discovered as we let go of human thinking and overthinking and allow the Truth to reveal its rightness to us. God’s light illumines our best path and protects us as we go forward in it. Focusing more on God’s qualities, on Love and Truth and goodness, we begin to see more clearly our best course.

And as we let go of the tendency to outline, to be fearful, or to feel burdened with false responsibility, new ideas begin to appear. We find options we had not considered before. We gain a better and more satisfying awareness of how one choice may benefit ourselves and others as well.

God is revealing His loving Truth to us for each moment. And when we are receptive, we get direction, feel peace, and can respond with our grateful agreement and continued trust.

“Spirit, God, gathers unformed thoughts into their proper channels, and unfolds these thoughts, even as He opens the petals of a holy purpose in order that the purpose may appear.” (Science and Health, p. 506:1)

This metaphor so wonderfully captures both the beauty and the naturalness of progress and purpose. We recognize and accept that a flower will grow, and its petals open in just the way it must, without willful thought or effort.

Just so, when we feel a seed of an idea germinating, or an inspiration just out of our grasp, or a purpose that feels less than fully formed, raw and unlovely, we can release ourselves to God’s care. Spirit is able to unfold so naturally and rightly what is best for us to see and to pursue, as well as how we are to do this.

And this unfolding good is perfectly timed. Each phase of discovery comes in a way that is perceivable and attainable. Each petal has its own beauty to behold and to linger with, before the final bloom comes forth.

Let’s trust God with our lives and our purpose. Let’s let go of human over-thinking and manipulation, impatience and doubt, and allow God’s gentle hand to reveal moment by moment, our right and satisfying and beautiful lives.

“Think long; think hard. When you are angry, don’t let it carry you into sin. When night comes, in calm be silent…Entrust yourself to the Eternal.” (Psalms 4: 4-5, the Voice Translation)

We can trust the Eternal. We can release our anger and our fears to God’s care. We can take a grateful pause for contemplation before we behave in ways that do not dignify us and that may cause more harm than good.

When we get riled or frustrated, feel defensive or accusatory, it is healing and ultimately more constructive to let our emotions simmer down. And rather than taking time to ruminate, to revisit troubling situations and restoke our anger (as we may be especially tempted to do in the night hours), let’s instead be calm and silent.

Allow the Truth some time to bring you peace, solutions, rest. Let God enfold you in His Love and let that powerful goodness ease tension and allow for the natural influx of reason and revelation. Let’s not make bad things worse by our focus on evil. Instead, let’s rest our sweet selves in God’s purpose, one meant to keep us calm, safe, fruitful, healthy, and happy.

“Love is more important than anything else. It is what ties everything completely together.” (Colossians 3: 13, Contemporary English Version)

Love is greater than anything. It is powerful, inexhaustible, and an absolute necessity for life.

We can get involved in personal and professional pursuits with conviction and drive. We can expand our thinking to embrace new ideas and gain new capacities. We can reason with others and come up with good solutions and understanding.

And yet, without love, these good aims and actions are missing what makes them really work to their highest potential, what brings progress and promotes genuine joy. Love unifies our causes and brings us together as individuals and as fellow children of God.

Divine Love received and expressed is mighty and tender. It awakens us to our best selves and gives us the energy and impetus to help others thrive as well. As we love, we feel love, and it revives us. We can never lack in love, because it comes from God, so it is abundant, available, and active.

Let’s be alive to Love’s presence. Let’s use love generously, receive it gratefully, and behold its ability to bring out right and healing results for us and for all.

“May the Lord Jesus Christ and God our Father (who has loved us and given us unending encouragement and unfailing hope by his grace) inspire you with courage and confidence in every good thing you say or do.” (II Thessalonians 2: 16-17, JB Phillips New Testament)

We have inspired support in our good endeavors. We can remember that we are not alone in our work and in our lives. We can turn to God for strength, releasing our doubts and our egos, and gain confidence in our ideas and pursuits.

God has loved us eternally. The Christ message has brought His goodness nearer to us, made this Love more humanly accessible, real, possible. God’s grace has shown us that we are worthy to live with dignity and with joy, to lead others by letting God lead us.

Human courage and confidence may feel like willful efforts. But true conviction comes from relying on God, being humbly receptive to all that He supplies to us so readily and graciously.

We can receive with gratitude this benediction and remember that God’s encouragement is unending. He made us to succeed, to live as the very ideas He saw fit to make and to sustain, to show forth His own qualities and His powerful purpose.

“He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.” (II Corinthians 3: 6, New International Version)

You are well-equipped to share your goodness with others. We have this competency to minister, to care willingly and humbly for others, in our own unique and powerful way. This readiness is part of the covenant, the holy agreement between each of us and God.

This contract recognizes our Oneness with Him, our union with the divine qualities, the Spirit that is Life and Love. And this Spirit in us, this knowing in our hearts, is what brings out our best towards others. This consciousness inspires and uplifts us and gives us the strength and confidence to shine our light.

If we let this Spirit, this unencumbered joy and love, get tangled up in language, intellectual ideas, rules and dogma, we strangle it. The letter of good intentions becomes bound up in the unreliability of human opinions. It loses the spiritual impulse that is truly good and right and healing.

Let’s do our best to let inspiration lead us. Let’s minister from our honest hearts with the very Love that is also ministering to us.
