“Why are you cast down, O my inner self? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, for I shall yet praise Him, Who is the help of my countenance, and my God.” (Psalms 42: 11, Amplified Bible Classic Edition)

We all have times when we feel despair and a yearning for peace. We may find it very easy to trust that voice in us that feels lost and to believe that is tells us the whole story.

But we can question this limited and fearful self. We can recognize that the devilish temptation to give in and give up is one that has no real validity and no genuine allure for us. We can start by listening for that wiser voice, the one that knows the infinite possibilities available for our comfort, our release, our freedom.

We can begin with hope. We can stop focusing on the dark and look up. We can be expectant of the breaking dawn—that inspiration, light, and healing will make itself known to us. God is ready to help us. We can be ready to let Him reveal His Spirit in us, that vital Life and tender Love that is stronger than our moaning, than the lure of hopelessness. We can gratefully praise God because with Him all things truly are possible, our salvation and joy is at hand.
