Daily Inspiration, November 27th

“If I had the gift of being able to speak in other languages without learning them and could speak in every language there is in all of heaven and earth, but didn’t love others, I would only be making noise.” (I Corinthians 13: 1, Living Bible)

Paul was a gifted speaker, from what I can surmise. He addressed many people from all over with his message of the Christ. He wrote letters to churches that now comprise a good portion of the Bible’s New Testament. And yet, he knew that it wasn’t language that was important. It wasn’t having great mastery even as a teacher or charisma as a leader.

It was about love. If there wasn’t love behind what one was doing and sharing, it was just noise. And how much do people want to listen to noise? They might bear it for a short time, but then it only becomes a frustration, uncomfortable, something to tune out or flee from.

This spiritual love Paul was talking about is what makes our own words and works powerful, healing, blessing. If we lose sight of this love and get wrapped up in results, in our own sense of self and proving our intelligence, rightness, enlightenment, we aren’t doing anyone any good. We aren’t bringing music to the ears of those who seek it, but instead fingernails on a chalkboard.

Love means respect. Love means compassion. Love means understanding. Love means listening. Love is God, so it means humility. It means loving God and letting His Truth about us and our brothers and sisters, shine through. When we do this, we can say a lot or nothing at all, and it will be a rich blessing to all!

Daily Inspiration, November 22nd

“Try to realize what this means—the Lord is God! He made us—we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Go through his open gates with great thanksgiving; enter his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and bless his name.” (Psalms 100: 3-4, Living Bible)

Take a pause and ponder what it means to be the children of God. Become conscious of divine Love as the Source and substance of Life. Realize this great blessing and let it lead you into this day and into the days to come.

We have been created out of God’s goodness and for His purpose. We are here to express and feel Love, to experience the abundance that is found in doing good, in sharing, and in the true and healing awareness of God as the Father and Mother of one and all.

This is a cause for celebration and it is an open invitation into His courts. This thanksgiving, this grateful praise, opens our eyes, our thoughts, and our hearts to the great influx of blessings that are ours. As we acknowledge God’s presence, power, and goodness, we are living witnesses to this Truth, and the beauty of this hour and of our place in it is vibrantly brought to light.

May your holiday be one full in grace and glory, beholding God’s rich love for you, just as you are and right where you are. May you thankfully rejoice that you are a member of God’s family, whether at a table of many or alone in His tender, attentive, company.

“When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.” (Psalms 94: 19, New Living Translation)

We all have doubts. It may seem that on any given day we are uncertain about our lives, our choices, our relationships, our provision. We can wrestle to really believe in something, to have faith in possibilities, in healing, in peace.

When we feel perplexed and find ourselves ruminating, analyzing, embroiled in mental arguments, comfort is at hand. By relinquishing the controls, by turning off the blame and concern, the need to be certain and confident and right, we become aware of the loving presence of God. We feel His strength and capacity to care for us, to guide us, and to see us as His little children, ready to be taught and eager to be loved.

And this is renewing. It dissolves the jaded, the hardened, the skeptical and fearful, and brings hope and cheer, a new excitement in recognizing that our doubts are simply questions and that we are ready for Truth’s forthcoming answers that are progressive, uplifting, reliable, and assuring.

Daily Inspiration, November 15th

“As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being.” (Science and Health, page 361)

We can luxuriate in these wonderful thoughts! We can gratefully and willingly bask in the Truth that we are one with God, with the divine Life and Love that is infinite, that is wise, that is eternal goodness and perpetually complete.

The ego sure wants to believe that we are out on our own, making our way, in control of our own destinies, for good or for bad, and at odds with others. This puts a lot on the shoulders of a mortal, of one individual with limited information and lots of distractions.

But this separate mind and sense of life to which the ego holds so tightly is not in the pilot’s seat. We are at one with God, and, as the images in the quote describe, we consist of God’s very qualities as well. We are not only in the path of God’s light, but an aspect of its glow. We aren’t the source itself, but we are its expression, naturally. We are not an ocean’s expanse, but we are evidence of its clarity, freshness, and freedom.

We are inseparable from God’s ever-presence, a part of this infinite goodness. And while we are each unique, we are of an equal nature and relation with God and with all the other drops in that ocean, united in that vast yet beautiful sea of God’s creation and of His good and loving Life.

Daily Inspiration, November 13th

“Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.” (Psalms 143: 8)

This is a perfect prayer with which to wake. We can make it a conscious practice to turn to God first thing in the morning. And we can humbly listen for the very thing that God is ready to share with us: His lovingkindness.

For when we turn to human thinking and to the senses and to others to tell us what our day holds, the presentation isn’t necessarily one that reveals love and peace and happiness. We can feel lack of motivation, weariness, uncertainty, lowered expectations, if not sheer dread of what is ahead.

But our trust first and foremost in God, in the powerful qualities of His Truth and Love, makes us receptive and prepared for a glory day, God’s day. When we lift up our soul—get out of the limited and mortal and its downward pull and take a higher perspective—we find that we can rise with joy, expectancy, and freedom. We can take one step at a time with God into a day that is big with promise and light and lovingkindness for us to experience and to share with others as well!

Daily Inspiration, November 8th

“If I try to hide in the darkness, the night becomes light around me. For even darkness cannot hide from God; to you the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are both alike to you.” (Psalms 139: 11-12, the Living Bible)

There are times we feel we just want to get away from life, to sink into a dark place and give up. We may be paralyzed by grief, disappointment, or simply confusion over what we are to do and to be.

But even when we hide in the darkness, linger in depression or doubt, we are never alone. The dark is not the winner, the condition, our place. It is only a space wherein the light can be seen even more clearly, vibrantly, and received more willingly and gratefully. For God’s light is in every place. His Love and His goodness are always ready to find us and awaken us to see what is really going on.

God does not distinguish between night and day. He is always the Star of Light, the Sunlight of Living Truth, boldly available and full of Love and peace and power, no matter what the limited human senses would tell us.

God is faithfully with us, watching in the night, keeping us safe, and preparing us for the natural dawn to rise and shine, leading us into His glorious day!

“…spiritual Love will force you to accept what best promotes your growth.” (Science and Health, page 266)

There is a divine hand moving you forward, onward, upward. The idea that we are subject to random material circumstances, time, and other persons, is mistaken. There is a holy purpose underlying your life, keeping you on course, and compelling you to grow.

What does growth mean? It means LIFE! It means that we are always being nurtured with what will cause us to realize and live life with freshness, insight, and a new vision of what is true, real, and right. It isn’t a capricious god that forces us to grow. It is spiritual Love—perfect and limitless and precise and unopposed.

Love compels us into a deeper awareness, encourages us to give up what really isn’t serving us and to accept what is progressive for us and blesses others as well. We may think of force as a harsh thing, but one definition is to drive or impel against resistance. So, we can know that Love, the very Love that knows us so well, is moving us forward and is beating out any resistance to this advancement, this awakening sense of who we are and of what is possible for us, today, tomorrow, and beyond.

Daily Inspiration, November 1st

“For, dear brothers, you have been given freedom: not freedom to do wrong, but freedom to love and serve each other.” (Galatians 5: 13, the Living Bible)

Brothers and sisters, you are born free. You are naturally made to be the expression of God’s Spirit, which inherently includes liberty—the freedom to be what you were created to be.

And this blessed idea that we are fulfills our purpose in the best way by loving and serving others. We were built to love, so we abuse our freedom when we are selfish or unkind. This wrong thinking and behavior goes against God’s intention for us. In fact, it puts us in unnecessary bondage. For to obey and respond to something less than loving and good, is to serve what really has no power, what limits and lies.

We can consciously cherish the fact of our freedom—the innate qualities of Life and Truth and Love within us—and think and act accordingly. We have the ability to choose to be generous and loving and open, rather than closed off, exclusive, judgmental. This freedom to be good is one that makes a difference in our world, but which succeeds in making us feel satisfied and happy, too. For when we are serving the purpose of Love, we can’t help but feel and experience that healing, saving, comforting Love as well.

Daily Inspiration, October 30th

“…whosoever takes a drink of the water that I will give him shall never, no never, be thirsty any more. But the water that I will give him shall become a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling) [continually] within him unto (into, for) eternal life.” (John 4: 14, Amplified Bible, Classic Edition)

This cool drink of refreshing water is more than a temporary quenching. God’s Truth of Life, the Christ-message of peace and joy and salvation, is enduring. This message is not only a reminder about life. It is Life itself, and it never depletes.

Likewise, it never leaves us. The water of Truth, the saving Word that we are God’s own children and that He is Love, resides as a boundless pool in us. When we feel that we are lacking in understanding, in confidence, in joy or health or peace, these powerful waters are at hand. We can always go to that well—that conscious awareness of God and His Love, His Truth, His Life—and find what we need.

And this Truth which is always within us, will continue to bubble up, to flow, as we open ourselves up to its grace and as we freely share as well. What Jesus taught that gave him the power to heal and to transcend death, was this Life-giving, Life-renewing knowledge of God. It was and is the abundant Truth within that we are all the very children of Life itself and able to express this forever, overflowing with Love and with gratitude as well.

Daily Inspiration, October 25th

“Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.” (James 1: 2-4, Message Bible)

Perseverance through challenges sure can seem difficult, and this advice might be the last we’d want to take. At those hard times, we may feel like giving up altogether, just letting go of our hope, our faith, our trust in others and ourselves.

But recognize the sheer gift you are being given. Being put to the test means that the very substance of you and your goodness, your understanding, your wisdom, your light, are getting a perfect opportunity to prove themselves. All that you truly are and believe and all that God would have you know even better, are coming up to be more fully realized and refined.

Your true colors are not dark and dreary. Your true colors are vibrant, brilliant, and they will be revealed more vitally at the most difficult and often unexpected times. You will also come to discover new strength, new light, new ways to love and be loved.

Under the pressure of the outside world, the pearl that is you is being formed beautifully, developed fully. It isn’t that we wish for these troubles to come, but that we can look at ourselves and our lives and see that with each struggle has also come an opportunity not only for growth, but also for a wonderful release to God’s plan, one that blesses us and all.
