harvest1

“…let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” (Galatians 6: 9, New Living Translation)

Doing good may feel like a burden. It may seem at times that we work hard to help and to be good people, and yet it never brings us anything but weariness or loss.

But pause a minute. When we are doing good from a true motive of love for others and following the intuitions that lead us, we can’t help but enjoy the blessings ourselves. In the well-doing, we feel more alive; by seeing others benefit, we feel enriched.

The devilish mortal mind would want us to forget those natural rewards of giving and make us want to give up. It would have us believe it would be easier to give in to selfishness or to stop trying so hard to be good.

Certainly, we deserve a rest, and we can have it. We can do good faithfully and remember that we are doing it with God. He lovingly gives us gentling times when we can renew and refresh. He allows us occasions to be on the receiving end of the goodness of others. This is part of His plan.

And God’s timing is exquisite. The fruits of the good work that we do will blossom in ways that are just right and right on time. Let’s stay faithful to our true selves. Let’s relish our natural desire to do good and actively pursue it.

plain-of-the-field

“For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set controlled by the Spirit finds life and peace. In fact, the mind-set focused on the flesh fights God’s plan and refuses to submit to his direction, because it cannot!” (Romans 8: 6-7, the Passion Translation)

Our mind-set is our rescue! Our consciousness is the place where it all happens. If we choose to focus on body, materiality, time, we have walked into a battlefield. Our thought has chosen the side of struggle, when there is a choice for progress and peace.

We can do our best to set our minds on God. That is, to allow our thoughts to dwell on spiritual things, to turn away from everything that would deprive us of joy and freedom and life and its perpetual promise. We can give up the human reasoning that is fallible because of its limits, and instead let God feed us with the Truth—the Truth that sets us free!

A focus on spiritual qualities like goodness and love and unity and progress is a way to move us out of thinking about mortality, gloom, finiteness. It is also the easier way. It requires less struggle against God’s natural design of good. And also, the Truth of Life is simpler. It is not confusing and complex, overwrought and challenging. God’s Truth, the Life that is Spirit and Love, is easier. It is Love accepted. It is joy embraced. It is life that lives in each moment with expectation. It is a loss of fear and of ego, and a sweet release to God’s control, comfort, direction, and affection.

tarasp-castle--1

“You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill.” (Matthew 5: 14, the Message Bible)

You have a purpose! You were designed to be light, and light needs to shine. Light breaks the dark, guides, opens our vision, makes things clearer. We can recognize the light within us—that Love that defies darkness and brings healing—and we can use it freely and without apology.

Your light is God’s own radiance. It is neither something to be afraid of sharing nor is it something to belittle. You have a beautiful holiness that must be made known. You can honor fully that spirit in you, God’s own resplendence, and be the proof of His goodness each day.

Why would we hide what gives us life? Why would we hesitate to be loving? How, in fact, can we really hide the glow of God? Can we stop that divine light from exposing the colors of the world, the diverse and beautiful variety of what God created?

Let’s not keep the saving glory of God a secret. Let’s go public by living as children of light, with a purpose to bring comfort, joy, color, beauty, and brightness to all, and to ourselves as well!

angel-in-heaven_SI_0

“And the angel of His presence saved them, In His love and in His compassion He redeemed them; And He lifted them up and carried them all the days of old.” (Isaiah 63: 9, Amplified Bible)

This angel of ancient days is with us now. We, too, are worthy of this compassion and redemption. Are we ready to receive this Love, with gratitude? Are we willing to give up the ego and the burden of personal control, to be carried by God’s angels?

God’s presence itself is our savior. This infinite Life and Love is with us, actively and completely. We are never left without God’s nature, His qualities fully expressed right where we are.

And so, we are where salvation lives. We are in a place where God’s angel—His inspiration, His guidance, His care, His comfort, His strength—is in attendance. And this angel does not leave us. God’s heavenly goodness expressed on earth, as we need it, continues with us through all our days. We are not carried only so far, and then dropped to take it on our own.

The angel of His presence comes with pure kindness, mercy, and devotion. We are safe. We are seen for who we truly are. We are being led out of the dark and into the light—the glorious Truth of knowing that we are never alone.

sharing gifts

“We all have different gifts that God has given to us by His loving-favor. We are to use them.” (Romans 12: 6, New Life Version)

Remember this. You have been given special gifts, because of God’s love. These gifts are never a burden, nor do we lack them. We all have unique talents, special qualities that we express in an individual way. These aspects of Soul, of Life, of Love that we evidence, have their Source in God. They have power to do good.

So, let’s not be shy about using our gifts. Let’s stop belittling what we have to offer or comparing ourselves to others. We are to recognize our specialness and bring it to life in our work, in our relationships, in our world. These gifts are established in us by God, and they have a purpose. Try not to get ahead of yourself and decide what that purpose is. Just cherish and appreciate your talents, skills, your manner of expressing God’s goodness, and let Him reveal just how these gifts are unwrapped for the world to enjoy.

And don’t qualify your gifts or say they are not important, or that they are not real talents, like you feel others may have. Let God tell you why He finds you precious and needed. You may have humor that uplifts. You may have a sense of order that organizes and arranges, makes the world easier to navigate. You may be a natural caretaker, a poet, a teacher. And you may be many wonderful things. Be aware of these gifts and release them from the box of judgment and out into the world where they can make it a better place!

open-door

“I know all the things you do, and I have opened a door for you that no one can close.” (Revelation 3: 8, New Living Translation)

God sees us clearly and thoroughly. This shouldn’t be a cause for shame or uncertainty. God’s awareness of us is as one Who loves us. He watches us with conscientious care, seeking only for us to know Him, the Truth of Life, better.

As we release our egos—with all their worries and doubts and pride and limitation—to God’s infinite presence and activity, we see that open door. We see the way in which we can gain true prosperity, peace, and satisfaction. We begin to align more naturally with God’s path for us, the right way to walk, the things to reach for and those to let go.

God knows where we came from and where we are going. He designed us to express a life that reveals His own goodness into the world in just the right way, at just the right time. When we go through this door, we glorify God without the strain and effort of human trial and error, the anxious striving for answers. Instead, we feel in step with God, in His moment with Him, and therefore safe, strong, and free.

awe-and-wonder

“I will offer You my grateful heart, for I am Your unique creation, filled with wonder and awe. You have approached even the smallest details with excellence; Your works are wonderful; I carry this knowledge deep within my soul.” (Psalms 139: 14, the Voice Translation)

God’s creation is awesome. And we are not only an expression of that wondrous Life, we are also given that spirit of wonder and reverence within us. This awareness of the magnificent, both large and small, is our true connection to Life and to Love.

As we recognize and cultivate this consciousness, as we are awake to the glory of God in us and around us, we gain light and life and peace and joy. When we see the reality of God’s universe—both the subtle and the grand details—all harmonizing as His design, we feel a part of that wholeness, and begin to know our own place in it.

Let’s give to God our grateful heart. Let’s rise up to realize and celebrate not only what is beautiful and good, but the very gift of wonder and awe itself. Let’s relish this profound response within us that opens up heaven to us right here on earth!

“So this is why we abandon everything morally impure and all forms of wicked conduct. Instead, with a sensitive spirit we absorb God’s Word, which has been implanted within our nature, for the Word of Life has power to continually deliver us.” (James 1: 21, the Passion Translation)

We can stop giving undue power and attention to our human vulnerabilities, flaws, and sensitivities. Instead, we can use that spirit within us, that is sensitive to, aware of, drawn toward, what is good and true and healing.

Let’s be alert to unkind ways of acting and thinking about others and even about ourselves. Let’s abandon the impure—those ideas and motives and behaviors that muddy up our thoughts and our lives. Let’s wake up to that wonderful clean slate ready for God’s pen to write upon. His Word tells us who we really are and what is truly possible for us. He reveals His design which is beautiful and harmonious.

This Word of Life is speaking within us. It is a more natural voice than the suggestions of the mortal mind that want to lead us into trouble, anger, fear, doubt, unkindness. God is always providing us with what is right and true, and we can let our humble and sensitive spirits be soft and ready to absorb all that He has to offer us. This is deliverance, joy, and peace!

“Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.” (Ephesians 6: 14-18, Message Bible)

If we can embrace these ideas, day by day, we can be helpful to our world and live a much more joyous experience as well.

It can be easy to talk about high-minded ideas, like peace and justice, but God’s qualities are more than words. They are ideals for us to actively claim and live to the best of our ability. We can awaken, through the prayer that is encouraged here, to Truth and its glorious cause, and to our natural part in this, our ability to achieve much good.

As we pray and keep our eyes open to light, we can bring this light to the lives of others. We can be alert to the need around us and uplift, encourage, and patiently help our brothers and sisters. We can pray hard and long—not obligatory statements of ritual, but a real and earnest receptivity to God and His purpose for us.

In this way, we not only get by, we thrive and also have an impact on the world, wherever we are, because we bear witness with our lives to Truth, to righteousness, to peace, to faith, and to salvation.

“…and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be death; there will no longer be sorrow and anguish, or crying, or pain; for the former order of things has passed away…Behold, I am making all things new.” (Revelation 21: 4-5, Amplified Bible)

Happy New Year! Let’s enter into this day with a feeling of renewal, expectation. Let’s be ready for life to bloom and blossom. Let’s recognize this moment as one in which we can begin to open ourselves up for healing, release, comfort, joy.

For today, as every day, God is expressing every one of His qualities with grace and glory. God’s eternal, timeless, Life demands a freshness, perpetuity, and progress.
