Daily Inspiration, May 31st

“I am clean without transgression, I am innocent;” (Job 33:9)

Let us accept this great truth about ourselves, claim the nature God bestowed upon us and never withdrew. Daily, we are given the opportunity to take this stand on our own behalf, to recognize and live our innocence, our purity, our worthiness in the sight of God, Spirit, divine Love.

Human sense may take us through the wringer and cause us to feel damaged or sinful, old and used, ashamed or self-condemning. These accusations against our sweetness may attempt to trick us into owning up to being less than lovely and lovable. But every moment we are blessed with the invitation to renew our plea, to present ourselves and accept ourselves as God made us to be. Nothing that human circumstance or material suggestion would cast upon us cannot be immediately washed away by Love, by the cleansing presence of Truth—the truth that we are made of God, by God, and so we are whole and holy. Always.

Know your true nature. Claim it daily, hourly, and know that God Himself backs you up in this. Acknowledging our true being and God as the Source and Preserver of it, we can then live out that innocence, that freedom that comes of being God’s own idea, the original one that was made in His image, and therefore, incapable of losing His goodness or of failing to deserve the tender and divine affection.

I am clean! I am washed new every day by His truth showering me! I am innocent, eager, ready, safe, satisfied! Say it, sing it, accept it!

“Sin and sickness will abate and seem less real as we approach the scientific period, in which mortal sense is subdued and all that is unlike the true likeness disappears.”

The false sense that appears so vivid and aggressive, announcing prolific diseases and rampant sinfulness, darkness, and pain is giving itself up. The “scientific period” is that time in which we become conscious of the unreality of evil and the broad and all-encompassing and indisputable reality of good. The solid sense of matter and its control is fading away. Even the material scientists seem now to doubt its substance and are observing the mental and spiritual more closely.

The Christian Scientist is at the forefront of this new era, already ahead of the crowd and prepared to assert and demonstrate that we have already entered our heaven. We must rejoice in this awareness. We can stand firm as the worldly thought catches on and catches up, until it finally lets go of the need to cling to material disappointments and inconclusiveness, and to welcome in the clear and beautiful reality of God’s goodness, Spirit’s ever-presence, and Mind’s omniscience and satisfaction.

Staying with the Truth of being, leading the pack, demonstrating the facts as we understand them, we will bear witness to sin and sickness fading away, its mesmerizing hold being lost and the focus of all attention being drawn more to that which is real and powerfully healing. As we subdue the mortal sense of things individually, there is more light in the world, more of the true likeness appearing and so hope is stirred for all. Such hope opens wide the door to heaven, here and now, universally claimed, understood, and lived.

“But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10: 40-42)

Are you a Mary or a Martha? Perhaps a little bit of both? It seems pretty clear whose behavior Jesus found to be more right and lasting and healing. Mary was poised and ready, open to listening to God’s work, able to be still and to be silent to receive of the blessings of the good news. She recognized that what the Master would reveal to her would more than take care of the nagging human needs of that day and days to come.

Martha, on the other hand, felt burdened by her human goodness, encumbered with cares of the household, of being an appropriate host, a good mortal, presenting a perfect home. Her intentions were good, and we certainly all do need to take care of our daily business as well as be welcoming and kind to others. But we can’t let this constant busy-ness be at the expense of even one healing truth whispering to us, unheard in the din of our own rushing about. Jesus was not angry at Martha for her bustling about, but he, as always, wanted to relieve her of the burden and to show her the way to peace.

How often are we “careful and troubled about many things,” lingering both mentally and with our actions upon the petty details of life, the ins and outs of making sure everything is just right humanly, perfect, in its place? Jesus’ kind alert to Martha was not given to shame her, but to invite her in. To let her know that she, too, could relax and be washed in the spiritual good, the word that would not take away from the perfect setting, but reveal it even more, show the heaven that is never found through human doing and always found through divine grace.

Daily Inspiration, May 12th

“Moral courage is ‘the lion of the tribe of Juda,’ the king of the mental realm. Free and fearless it roams in the forest. Undisturbed it lies in the open field, or rests in ‘green pastures,…beside the still waters.’” (Science and Health, page 514)

The lion-like bravery that comes of claiming and standing with Principle is a freedom and a protection and a peace. That moral courage is not arrogance or blindness to challenge, but a serenity that comes of being at one with the divine purpose, that which is omnipotent, ever-present Love.

We can do the right thing, walk in the right path, doing unto others and doing right for ourselves, and maintain that power that is at the same time quietness and calm. We are strong in feeling our dominion everywhere, because we are shored up by those qualities that have no vulnerability, no argument, which can’t be shaken or accused. Our innocence is our shield from attack, and our faithfulness to Truth, is that sword that is conscious discernment, able to separate fearlessly that which is wrong from that which is not only right, but is just right and loving for all.

There is a calm rest in this moral courage. It is never a burden or a sacrifice. We have claimed who we really are, the very image and likeness and expression of God Himself, and in this there is no striving, but a simplicity of being. We walk in confident certainty, because we feel like ourselves, true to who we are, comfortable in our lives, ready for anything and ashamed of nothing. And this moral strength is not a human accomplishment, but divine grace. It is not gaining or giving up anything. It is acceptance. It is walking with a humble pride that we are God’s own ideal, His representative, and so we are in control, safe, and at peace.

Daily Inspiration, May 10th

“Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything…Then…God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.” (Philippians 4: 6-7, Contemporary English Version)

Worrying will never get you anywhere. It isn’t powerful and it isn’t useful. It takes us away from the Source of all the answers instead of drawing us to the Truth that saves and heals. We don’t worry not because we are blind to trouble that seems to appear, but because we know the solution is found in prayer, that consecration and expectation that reveals perfect harmony. And this is peace.

I love this translation because it is so clear: less worrying, more praying; more praying, more peace; more peace, more control over thought and feeling. So, we are rescued from our fears, our anxieties, and our burdened thought by ceasing the human ruminating and fretting. To worry is to ply away at something ceaselessly, to concentrate efforts on the problem and not to let it go. And doing that wastes effort and keeps us focused on the problem, unable then to see the presence of the solution.

Let’s keep our grip on God and His thoughts, rather than the useless worry. That peace that comes of prayer, of quiet release to Love and the expectation of help and healing, will usher in all that is needed. It will bring inspiration, human guidance, and turn our eyes away from inward fixation and mesmerism, outward and upward where the available miracles can be seen and accepted into life.

Pray about everything. Nothing is too small. If you find yourself worrying, replace the futility with the usefulness of prayer and find that present and easy and natural blessing which is sweet peace.

Daily Inspiration, May 5th

“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.” (I John 4: 4)

The children have taken over and the world is blessed for it! That vibrant, eager, loving, receptivity that is in us, is greater than that egotistical and cynical soul that argues in the world and in human thought. Jesus, the Truth-teller, assured us that our childlikeness was the way into heaven. Our pure and expectant thought and release to God’s care is the answer to heaven on earth, for the earth.

That seeming battle we have within us is a foregone victory for God and so for us, His beloved. That sense of double-mindedness, of guilt versus innocence, of shame versus confidence, of damage versus newness simply can’t continue. The right side must win, for the Christ within always overcomes, it is that which transcends death and anything deathly, anything that is not full of life and truth and love.

We are the little children of God, the sweet ones who win out, bless and save the world, through our very overcoming, through that power that comes by releasing ourselves to the Father-Mother and acting like ourselves, like the children of Soul that we are. Don’t fight the kid in you. Claim it, nurture it, embrace it, enjoy it, and announce with glee that heaven is here, and that all are welcome to come out of the darkness to play!

Daily Inspiration, May 3rd

“In the scientific relation of God to man, we find that whatever blesses one blesses all, as Jesus showed with the loaves and the fishes,—Spirit, not matter, being the source of supply.” (Science and Health, page 206)

God’s relationship to man is scientific, based on fact, provable. This truth of man’s oneness with God, the Source of all good, is our assurance that we can never be in need. The divine Mind is wise and that Mind is Love, so the substance of our supply is always rightly distributed, timely, sufficient. Spirit has no limits, and it always fulfills the law of righteousness and love.

A blessing to one cannot come as deprivation to another. God’s plenty is boundless and active. His purpose is always at hand to be claimed and seen by all. The human senses would always seem to limit our supply to that which is material and therefore finite. It would try to trick us into thinking that there are not enough fishes to go around, not enough money, not enough jobs, not enough men or women, not enough opportunity, not enough talent, not enough health, not enough joy.

But our loaves are love and our fishes are faith. Divine Love recognized as the Source of our good and the substance of it, opens up our lives to the influx, the revelation of that which is not only good but is just right. And this rightness, Mind’s sweet design, means an abundance of perfect good for all. Spirit is flowing with showers of plenty, here, now, and without exception. It’s a fact!

Daily Inspiration, April 28th

“For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee.” (Isaiah 60:20)

The darkness of fear, discord, war, and disease that seems to enshroud the earth and dim human hope is prepared for the bright and shining light of God’s grace, the Truth of things revealed.  The reality of life is not lost, nor can it be. Life is God, and is light, a natural and necessary wholeness, peace, and a joy that is deep and true.

God, Spirit, alone can bring the light that breaks the illusion and that awakens man to his true nature and the perfect design of the earth that belongs to Him. Material methods and material science can’t uncover heaven’s promises, or lead us home to our bliss. Only God, divine Love, has this power to thoroughly bless, to show us what is real, what is more than simply acceptable, but is truly right and satisfying.

The light of God is our own glory revealed, for He is the brightness of our own being expressed. God put His radiance within us. It is the healing power that resides already with us, never separate, always intact, never dimmed despite the human sense delusions. We are glorious and so is our wonderful earth, because the light of God is infinite, and it is unquenchable, perfect, alive, enduring, and ours!

Daily Inspiration, April 26th

“The Lord lifteth up the meek:..” (Psalms 147:6)

In meekness there is power. We submit to God’s righteous control over our lives and in that we are blessed with enjoying His intelligent design, harmonious experience, and the recognition that all things are possible. The meekness that releases us to God’s righteousness gives us courage and a victory over evil that is not a fight, but is a surrender to a natural triumph, already accomplished.

To be meek, is to “manifest patience and long-suffering…to endure injury without resentment.” Meekness is not being a passive doormat. It is not tolerating in order to do “the right thing.” It is a conscious awareness that all is well, that an individual or a circumstance does not have any power over God’s law of righteousness and of love. This meekness we can claim is a sweet relief that there is no reason to be riled or disturbed, to feel hurt or maligned, for we know we are loved and that God’s justice does not make any exceptions. We are in the hands of that which is infallibly right to and for all.

Listen for the angel of meekness speaking to you now. Accept that whisper from your heart that wants to let go and let Love be the defining and designing factor in all things. We have been given this meekness and taught well of it by Jesus. His triumphant meekness is our example. Jesus was not a push-over, nor was he arrogant in his confidence. He simply expressed his divine sonship, that glorious gentle power that comes of knowing that he, as we, are one with the Almighty Truth that is Love and so we are at peace!

Daily Inspiration, April 21st

“Ever since the foundation of the world, ever since error would establish material belief, evil has tried to slay the Lamb; but Science is able to destroy this lie, called evil.” (Science and Health, page 568)

The Lamb, that sweet message of purity, innocence, promise, renewal, is constantly under attack. That which would uplift humanity to a true awareness of God, of that divine inheritance of freedom, seems to be drowned out by the noise of mortal minds, of a belief in egos that must have power, of matter that must have life, of that which makes the simple complicated.

Christian Science is able to destroy this evil by revealing its powerlessness. The Lamb, that which is the pure idea held in the Shepherd’s safe embrace, can’t be slain for it dwells in God, Who is Omnipotent Life. The truth about God and man can’t be assailed or ended, despite the world’s attempts to hide it. Material beliefs would seem to empower shrewdness over wisdom, ambition over humility, competition over oneness, and need over abundance.

But, the Truth protects this innocent Lamb even when it seems to be constantly barraged with accusations and limitations. That gentle idea of Soul’s anointing, has the power of God within it, and it must emerge unharmed and victorious. Let’s not allow the world’s lies to slay our lamb, to turn our sweetness into bitterness or our exuberance into complacency or resignation. Let’s yield to our own innocence and let the Shepherd lead us home to peace, power, and joy!
