“…be careful how you live; be mindful of your steps. Don’t run around like idiots as the rest of the world does. Instead, walk as the wise!” (Ephesians 5: 15, the Voice Translation)
Mindfulness is so often spoken of these days. It seems that we are being called as a world to be more intentionally thoughtful, reflective, aware. This conscious regard for life and our part in it, so clearly articulated here, was what Jesus was teaching and demonstrating.
We must and can walk as the wise! We don’t have to get caught up in what others are thinking or doing, whether to emulate it, compete with it, or to get disturbed about it. We can be careful in our living, in that we intentionally choose to be what God caused us to be. By doing so, we bring light to the world, and enjoy individual peace and progress as well.
And this wise walking means confidence. It is a conviction and certainty that isn’t arrogance or pride, a feeling that we are better than others. It is that humble and powerful walk as the very presence of Love, as God’s own idea moving through the world, with His purpose in us and under us. This means we can feel focused and yet open and flexible; loving and also strong.
This spiritual mindfulness makes our steps sure and our walk of life pleasant and joyful as well!
