Daily Inspiration, December 13th

“God will command his angels to protect you wherever you go. They will carry you in their arms, and you won’t hurt your feet on the stones.” (Psalms 91: 11-12, Contemporary English Version)

Yes, you have a companion, a defender, a caretaker. God is guiding each of us forward in life, step by step on that journey that is a deepening awareness of His goodness and Love. As we walk that progressive path, it may not always seem easy. It may, in fact, feel impossible, dangerous, or emotionally challenging.

But we are not set on this course without guidance. God continues to send us His angels, those divine ideas that are just right in each moment. Because of His Love, He doesn’t expect us to know the way already, nor does He want us to avoid what may bless us. So, He makes sure we are accompanied by those intuitions and inspirations we may need in each hour.

And God also perfectly times His comfort, tenderness, mothering care. He assures that we stay out of harm’s way, unhurt by the stones that others may throw at us or that we may feel we have to traverse to discover our true home, our healing and peace.

You have God’s angels and they are under His command. They know where you are going, and they know you. You are safe and sound as you advance on your way and as you rightly pause for rest and reflection as well.

Daily Inspiration, December 11th

“In humility, [Mind’s infinite ideas] climb the heights of holiness.” (Science and Health, page 514)

Humility is powerful. To express this quality is to gain spiritual altitude, to find ourselves with a perspective above the limited and feeling the freedom that God gave us.

We are the infinite ideas of a Mind that created all and called it good. We are under the government of divine wisdom. We are designed by divine Love to manifest His Life and His goodness, naturally and fearlessly.

Humility allows this active Principle to be fully realized. When we humbly yield to God, to the Truth that knows us and what is right for us and for all, we release ourselves to the divine plan. To the ego, this may feel like a loss of control, but it is, in fact, power. It is giving up the reins, the sometimes white-knuckled grasp on our lives, our destinies, our relationships, and letting God carry us forward, onward, upward.

As we give up a belief that we are in charge, that our own thoughts and actions must make or break us, we gain the eager receptiveness of a child. We see that our lives are cared for and that we don’t have to be humanly perfect or brave or forceful to feel successful, confident, unburdened and blessed!

Daily Inspiration, December 6th

“Let our sons in their youth grow like plants [or be like full-grown plants; robust and vital]. Let our daughters be like the decorated [cut] stones [or pillars] in the Temple [or palace; stately and beautiful].” (Psalms 144: 12, Expanded Bible)

These poetic images reveal some glorious, true, and healing ideas about us all. They illuminate a vision of men and of women in their spiritual essence, rather than in a material, physical, limited way.

We can turn to God as the psalmist did to awake to His purpose for His children. The sons of God can grow to behave with maturity, as well as vitality and strength. These men of God’s creation are made to endure and to nurture others, as the plants of the field that give sustenance. This true masculine idea is one that is upstanding, pure, helpful, and reliable.

And the daughter of God is equally wonderful in God’s eyes. She is not only a beauty to behold, but also has her own strength, as the very pillar of a palace, that which stands firm and without vulnerability. This female of God’s creating is a lovely asset in the temple, in that sacred place of God’s presence, and is also purposeful and powerful.

And the great blessing in this all is that we are none of us devoid of the other gender’s qualities. We are made to express wholeness, so we have strength and courage as well as gentleness and beauty. We each can know ourselves truly as the complete image and likeness of God—His reflection, His precious children, and His beloved.

Daily Inspiration, December 4th

“Do not fear, you wild beasts: You will eat again, for the desert pastures are green again! And so will we: the trees bear their fruit; the fig trees and the vines produce their bounty once again.” (Joel 2: 22, The Voice Translation)

This verse glows with a promise for each of us. The barrenness we may feel at times, the lack or loss that seems to engulf us, is not our fate. The desert of our thought and experience will bloom again.

For God is with us. His grace is boundless and ready. What seems to be destruction at times may actually be renewal, that necessary “slash and burn” where the old and unfruitful is cleared away so that new life can grow and flourish.

God’s Love and His infinite Life is our assurance. And this means we can calm our fear and that of others, knowing God’s good intention for us is that we are fed, nurtured, given all that is needed for us to grow and be happy, to be what He made us to be. God’s promise is that we not only survive the wilderness times, but emerge from them into even greater productivity, inspiration, and bounteous goodness to express and to share!

Daily Inspiration, November 29th

“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” (Matthew 6: 34, Message Bible)

Stay in the moment. Be attentive to what is going on now. And take this beyond simply fixating on the tasks and concerns of this hour. See and know what God is doing. Be alert to what is unfolding in thought and experience that expresses His presence and goodness, intelligence and love.

This will bring you light and comfort in the moment, and occupy you with gratitude, an awakened thought, and a readiness to be further blessed. In this day. In this precious moment with God.

While intelligent planning can be helpful, let’s do that in the clarity of this moment with God, and not with worry and fear over what is to come. We can let our motive in each day be to stay in step with God, to be fully conscious of today, rather than speculating and outlining what tomorrow will bring, with trepidation and angst.

The fullness of God’s presence, power, and love will be attending you tomorrow just as it is right now. You may not feel humanly ready for what’s next, but God is, and He is way ahead of you with infinite wisdom, saving solutions, and His invincible protection and boundless affection!

Daily Inspiration, November 27th

“If I had the gift of being able to speak in other languages without learning them and could speak in every language there is in all of heaven and earth, but didn’t love others, I would only be making noise.” (I Corinthians 13: 1, Living Bible)

Paul was a gifted speaker, from what I can surmise. He addressed many people from all over with his message of the Christ. He wrote letters to churches that now comprise a good portion of the Bible’s New Testament. And yet, he knew that it wasn’t language that was important. It wasn’t having great mastery even as a teacher or charisma as a leader.

It was about love. If there wasn’t love behind what one was doing and sharing, it was just noise. And how much do people want to listen to noise? They might bear it for a short time, but then it only becomes a frustration, uncomfortable, something to tune out or flee from.

This spiritual love Paul was talking about is what makes our own words and works powerful, healing, blessing. If we lose sight of this love and get wrapped up in results, in our own sense of self and proving our intelligence, rightness, enlightenment, we aren’t doing anyone any good. We aren’t bringing music to the ears of those who seek it, but instead fingernails on a chalkboard.

Love means respect. Love means compassion. Love means understanding. Love means listening. Love is God, so it means humility. It means loving God and letting His Truth about us and our brothers and sisters, shine through. When we do this, we can say a lot or nothing at all, and it will be a rich blessing to all!

Daily Inspiration, November 22nd

“Try to realize what this means—the Lord is God! He made us—we are his people, the sheep of his pasture. Go through his open gates with great thanksgiving; enter his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and bless his name.” (Psalms 100: 3-4, Living Bible)

Take a pause and ponder what it means to be the children of God. Become conscious of divine Love as the Source and substance of Life. Realize this great blessing and let it lead you into this day and into the days to come.

We have been created out of God’s goodness and for His purpose. We are here to express and feel Love, to experience the abundance that is found in doing good, in sharing, and in the true and healing awareness of God as the Father and Mother of one and all.

This is a cause for celebration and it is an open invitation into His courts. This thanksgiving, this grateful praise, opens our eyes, our thoughts, and our hearts to the great influx of blessings that are ours. As we acknowledge God’s presence, power, and goodness, we are living witnesses to this Truth, and the beauty of this hour and of our place in it is vibrantly brought to light.

May your holiday be one full in grace and glory, beholding God’s rich love for you, just as you are and right where you are. May you thankfully rejoice that you are a member of God’s family, whether at a table of many or alone in His tender, attentive, company.

Daily Inspiration, November 20th

“When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.” (Psalms 94: 19, New Living Translation)

We all have doubts. It may seem that on any given day we are uncertain about our lives, our choices, our relationships, our provision. We can wrestle to really believe in something, to have faith in possibilities, in healing, in peace.

When we feel perplexed and find ourselves ruminating, analyzing, embroiled in mental arguments, comfort is at hand. By relinquishing the controls, by turning off the blame and concern, the need to be certain and confident and right, we become aware of the loving presence of God. We feel His strength and capacity to care for us, to guide us, and to see us as His little children, ready to be taught and eager to be loved.

And this is renewing. It dissolves the jaded, the hardened, the skeptical and fearful, and brings hope and cheer, a new excitement in recognizing that our doubts are simply questions and that we are ready for Truth’s forthcoming answers that are progressive, uplifting, reliable, and assuring.

Daily Inspiration, November 15th

“As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being.” (Science and Health, page 361)

We can luxuriate in these wonderful thoughts! We can gratefully and willingly bask in the Truth that we are one with God, with the divine Life and Love that is infinite, that is wise, that is eternal goodness and perpetually complete.

The ego sure wants to believe that we are out on our own, making our way, in control of our own destinies, for good or for bad, and at odds with others. This puts a lot on the shoulders of a mortal, of one individual with limited information and lots of distractions.

But this separate mind and sense of life to which the ego holds so tightly is not in the pilot’s seat. We are at one with God, and, as the images in the quote describe, we consist of God’s very qualities as well. We are not only in the path of God’s light, but an aspect of its glow. We aren’t the source itself, but we are its expression, naturally. We are not an ocean’s expanse, but we are evidence of its clarity, freshness, and freedom.

We are inseparable from God’s ever-presence, a part of this infinite goodness. And while we are each unique, we are of an equal nature and relation with God and with all the other drops in that ocean, united in that vast yet beautiful sea of God’s creation and of His good and loving Life.

Daily Inspiration, November 13th

“Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.” (Psalms 143: 8)

This is a perfect prayer with which to wake. We can make it a conscious practice to turn to God first thing in the morning. And we can humbly listen for the very thing that God is ready to share with us: His lovingkindness.

For when we turn to human thinking and to the senses and to others to tell us what our day holds, the presentation isn’t necessarily one that reveals love and peace and happiness. We can feel lack of motivation, weariness, uncertainty, lowered expectations, if not sheer dread of what is ahead.

But our trust first and foremost in God, in the powerful qualities of His Truth and Love, makes us receptive and prepared for a glory day, God’s day. When we lift up our soul—get out of the limited and mortal and its downward pull and take a higher perspective—we find that we can rise with joy, expectancy, and freedom. We can take one step at a time with God into a day that is big with promise and light and lovingkindness for us to experience and to share with others as well!
