“Yes, he alone is my Rock, my rescuer, defense, and fortress—why then should I be tense with fear when troubles come?” (Psalms 62: 6, The Living Bible)

Troubles may seem unavoidable. Sure, we’d love for things to go smoothly, and for good to unfold in our experience. A fruitful life with abundant joys is a right desire, and one surely in line with God’s promise for His children.

But when things happen that feel out of line with this loving plan, we have an abiding place. We can gain an even greater understanding of God’s qualities, and of the measure of His love. Rather than succumbing to fear, tensing up and bracing for a challenge we must personally confront, we can recognize that we are being defended, rescued, saved, and uplifted by God and His ever-present Truth.

You stand on a Rock that is strong, stable, and raised high above the evil accusations the world would aim against your goodness, your health, your joy. God, the Love that is Life, is reliable, powerful, and ready to lift you out of danger and at the same time reveal a view of Life, of your own identity and integrity, beyond what you have realized before.

Don’t carry the burden of unnecessary stress, cringe, or cower, or complain. Instead, realize and accept that you are secure in God’s control, on His invincible Rock. He knows how to keep you safe, provide you with answers, direction, and peace.

“Citizens of the world, accept the “glorious liberty of the children of God,” and be free! This is your divine right.” (Science and Health, page 227)

Independence Day in the United States is a wonderful occasion to remember our rights. We can choose to eagerly celebrate something more than a national holiday. Today and every day we have the opportunity to recognize and claim our eternal freedom as children of God.

That’s a true holy-day. It’s one that honors the law of Life and Love and rejects the bondage of oppression to material limits, to fears, to anything that would make us feel like less than we are, like unwelcome aliens in a foreign land.

For you are citizens of the world and, in Truth, citizens of heaven—rightful residents in God’s harmonious kingdom. We may feel that the world itself doesn’t recognize or honor our rights as we would wish. And surely there is conscientious work to do to bring out a higher ideal on our earth.

But we can start by knowing who we are, which empowers us to this good work. We can begin by recognizing that we were born free—born with God’s blessing upon our heads, formed of His infinite qualities of Life, Spirit, Love, and subject to a higher law, a holy law that governs us with kindness, understanding, and grace.

Let’s rejoice that we are free. Let’s accept this in our hearts and let this healing reality resonate in our lives today and every day!

“If we love God, we will do whatever he tells us to. And he has told us from the very first to love each other.” (II John 1: 6, Living Bible)

Let’s do as we’re told! This obedience is not blind worship. It’s not being controlled against our will. It is doing what is most natural, right, and powerful.

God told us from the first, at our very origin, in our hearts, the message of Love. It is written within us. Love is what we are made of, because we are built of God’s own qualities, and He is Love. To cherish Love, to appreciate what it is and what it feels like, even to yearn for it, is to know its value. And so, in this love for Love, we can act accordingly, with gratitude for God and His goodness, Truth, and infinite affection.

We can love one another. We can and must express this Love that is in us, God’s own Love for us, towards one another. This may feel like a challenge at times. But as we bring our thought back to honoring God, honoring that divine Love that is ours, we can rejoice in the opportunity to feel and experience this compassion, kindness, understanding, and tenderness. We can recognize all the aspects of Love we are being called to shared. We can consciously realize how blessed we are and how we can bless others with respect, receptivity, openness, grace, and gratitude.

Let’s love because we can and because doing so brings healing, peace, and harmony to us and to all.

“Try your best to live quietly, to mind your own business, and to work hard, just as we taught you to do.” (I Thessalonians 4: 11, Contemporary English Version)

Paul was reminding his followers to continue in the way he had described to them. These practices best served the intention of the Christ-message that Paul was sharing, and it would also support their individual peace and well-being.

It seems difficult at times to live quietly and go about our own business. The world would want to call us to get caught up in its stories, to feel the need to prove ourselves, make a name, compete, argue, or to gain validation and accumulation.

But we can try our best, as this message reminds us. We can take that pause and recognize that minding our own business means being mindful of God’s business, letting Him guide us in what is right and pleasing and fruitful. We can work hard by staying faithful and not slothful; by allowing that divine light and Life within us to move us to diligence in doing what we are truly called to do, knowing we are supported in it by divine power.

And we can live quietly. Not only are we able to do this, we are allowed to do this. We have holy permission to enjoy quietness, privacy, a sacred stillness with God that will bring to our interactions more depth, more understanding, patience, progress, and gratitude.

“Roll your works upon the Lord [commit and trust them wholly to Him; He will cause your thoughts to become agreeable to His will, and] so shall your plans be established and succeed.” (Proverbs 16: 3, Amplified Bible Classic Edition)

Here’s a beautiful recipe for success and satisfaction. As we forge ahead on the work we feel called to do or required to accomplish, we have support and guidance at the ready.

We can turn to God. We can release our worries to Him and entrust the business of our jobs and our lives to this loving Mind Who knows us and His purpose for us. As we relinquish the personal sense of control, ingenuity, ego, and fear, we are humbly prepared to be lifted up, directed, provided with all that is needed.

When we commit our works to God, to good, to Truth, we align ourselves with the Almighty intention, and this empowers us. This oneness with God provides us with the inspiration and information that brings progress, achievement, and a sense of rightness both for ourselves and for others as well.

When our plans yield to God’s true intent, and our motives are in tune with His goodness, we come into natural harmony with a Life that is loving, peaceful, and productive!

“…when the Holy Spirit controls our lives he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control;” (Galatians 5: 22-23, the Living Bible)

If we could truly cultivate and practice these qualities, what a rich and generous life we might lead! These ways of thinking and acting are spiritual. They come with a divine energy behind them and the effectiveness of Truth.

We all have these attributes at the ready within us. The seeds are there, for God put them there. These wonderful and right impulses to do and be good, to serve and help and be kind, are part of our true nature. They are natural. While we may think we have to work at being peaceful, patient, kind, gentle, this striving is not the true way.

It is by letting. It is by yielding control to the Holy Spirit that we do easily imbibe and express these wonderful spiritual qualities. This Holy Spirit is always active, present. It is God making Himself known to us. When we are humble and receptive, we can feel this divine action and it moves us to be grateful and open. This Love felt makes us more loving. The awareness of God’s control eases the burden on us to control things ourselves. We are more willing to listen, to be tender and sweet, to be the better individuals God made us to be.

“The Great Preacher of peace and love came for you, and His voice found those of you who were near and those who were far away. By Him both have access to the Father in one Spirit.” (Ephesians 2: 17-18, the Voice Translation)

We are being sought out, reached with compassion, spoken to with inspiration, embraced in healing, no matter where we are. This Great Preacher, Jesus, came with the Truth of God and His goodness. This Christ continues to be alive and active, pursuing the lost, and drawing them home to comfort, to peace, to love.

God’s voice finds us when we are literally far from others, from safety, from the familiar. His messages seek us out when we feel distant from understanding, from confidence, from health, from answers. The Christ—that vital expression of God’s presence to humanity—is always where we are, always ready for our receptive hearts to hear, to feel, to rest in.

All have equal access to this divine influence. Whether we have been faithful followers, or lost sheep. The One Spirit comes to each of us and it also unites us, as fellow children of His loving care.

Peace and love are coming for you. Let yourself be found.

“I have come into the world as light, so that no one who believes in me need remain in the dark. Yet, if anyone hears my sayings and does not keep them, I do not judge him—for I did not come to judge the world but to save it.” (John 12: 46-47, JB Phillips New Testament)

Jesus came announcing and demonstrating the good news of God’s Love and of immortal Life. He came as a vital and radiant light, shining with God’s intention behind him, on a mission of healing and Truth.

This Christ-Truth was the reality of God’s presence and power brought to earth. This message and Jesus’s proofs of its efficacy in human lives, was pure light to the darkness of doubt, fear, conflict, discord. Jesus declared with his very life the Word of God, the revelation to all that we are one with the Father-Mother, His beloved children, each and every one of us.

Jesus must surely have hoped that all would receive this wonderful Truth with acceptance, gratitude, and joy. He knew that those who followed his teachings would benefit in their own lives and bring much to the world by their devotion as well.

And yet, Jesus clearly does not condemn or judge those unbelievers. Why not? Because, as Jesus states, his purpose was to save the world. And judgment can’t save anything. Only Love can truly do that. And this is the Christ-light. Divine Love.

“Because he set his love on Me, therefore I will save him; I will set him [securely] on high, because he knows My name [he confidently trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never abandon him, no, never].” (Psalms 91: 14, Amplified Bible)

God will never abandon us. We can’t be separate from His presence, from the infinite Love and Life that embraces us and the universe.

We can realize and experience this great protection and affection as we know God’s name. This means knowing His true nature. We accept and we adore God for Who He truly is, as He calls Himself: The Great I AM; Spirit; Life; Love; Truth; divine Mind.

This right awareness of God’s Being; the conscious recognition of His glorious and ever-present qualities, gives us an individual sense of peace, joy, and power. We can trust confidently, as the psalmist did, because we know in this magnificent kindness, goodness, wisdom, presence, we are safe and secure, beloved and watched over. He knows our names as well.

Our Mother-Father is worthy of our love and our devotion, for She is perfect Love and this Love will never abandon us. No, never!

“Look at the birds. They don’t plant or harvest or store food in barns, for your heavenly Father feeds them. And aren’t you far more valuable to him than they are? Can all your worries add a single moment to your life?” (Matthew 6: 26-27, New Living Translation)

Stop that worrying! Look about you. See how life is cared for, not by striving and fretting, but by simple trust and humble yielding to the law of God.

We may think this kind of logic is for the birds! But, truly, there is a divine law governing us just as it cares for the innocent animals. There is a natural provision for us shown forth in guidance, inspiration, and an abundant supply of just what is needful. As we lift the blinders of fear and doubt, we begin to see this loving care undergirding and infusing our lives.

You are valuable to God. He loves every idea that He saw fit to make. You are at one with all He created, a harmonious aspect of His universe, and so you must be maintained, sustained, and fulfill His glorious purpose.

Life is belittled by worry. We box it into time and pressure and lose Life’s grandeur. If you want to experience a more expansive life, do as the birds do. Trust and live! Listen with your heart and receive what God is already giving you. Stay receptive moment-by-moment. Don’t plan for trouble. Rest in the ability of God to advise, instruct, alert, and provide you with all the nourishment, wisdom, health, joy, and understanding that you need, one day at a time. Naturally!
