“You have not desired sacrifices, neither have you chosen burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a humble spirit; God does not reject a broken heart.” (Psalms 51: 16-17, Aramaic Bible in Plain English)

God’s expectations for us don’t require us to sacrifice what is good. Neither does divine Love need us to behave in certain perfect human ways, or to worship in a ritualistic way. We receive and feel God’s grace when we truly release our egos and simply turn to God with genuine trust and open hearts.

We may feel like our vulnerability in certain moments is a flaw, a reason for shame or doubt of our own worthiness. But these very times are those where God is ready to pull us into an embrace, like the Mother She is, and to wipe away our tears. When we are truly humble and seeking earnestly, even when we feel broken and low, God is ready to hush our fears and tell us why we can let them go.

God doesn’t reject our broken hearts, He repairs them. He reveals that Love and Life are not lost in time and circumstances, but available always with Him. God doesn’t ask us to be saintly mortals, untouched by any doubts or troubles. He knows us as His own children, and every humble release to our Father-Mother-Love is an occasion for us to realize this healing fact of who we are and to feel the sweet blessing this awareness brings.

“Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.” (Romans 12: 2, the Passion Translation)

Here is the recipe for a beautiful life. It isn’t one that aspires to be like the world, to try to reach some goal of human perfection or to be validated by others.

We cannot reach a truly good and right life by trying to be what the culture around us seems to tempt us to be; or, conversely, by seeing the trends and experiences of others as what we must have to be successful or popular, and yet finding these goals unreachable or even unsavory.

Instead, stop looking around you and start looking to God. He is ready to change your life from the inside out. He is ready to give you what is genuine and expansive, and what is pleasing to Him as well. God can open our spiritual eyes to what is neither satisfying or progressive for us, and instead show us how to do and be what makes our souls really sing.

And in this transforming, this revealing of our true and best selves, we can begin to live a life that is individually pleasing, but which also radiates powerfully in a world in need of light.

“Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by all means. The Lord be with you all.” (II Thessalonians 3: 16)

I like the way this verse begins. Now. This blessing is one for this moment, a prayer for us to know the peace of God immediately and always.

And there is a sweet completeness to this short benediction. We can receive this peace right away, eternally, and by all means. It can be revealed in countless ways and in all situations. We can know this divine serenity without condition or pause. And this glorious calm comes straight from God Himself.

It is divine Love’s gift, transcending the material and limited sense of goodness and reaching us in a deeper place, in a more thorough way. We can trust this holy peace and expect it. God is ever-present, so His peace is always where we are—actively, powerfully, lovingly.

And this peace is for us all. It is not a blessing only for a chosen few, but is bestowed on us all, fully, graciously, truly. Now.

“Stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.” (Job 37: 14)

Conscious stillness can be breathtaking. Taking a pause with intention—reflecting on and being receptive to the good and the beauty of one moment—can fill us up and lift us up.

The wondrous works of God are certainly those amazing ideas and qualities that we see in a sunset, hear in a hymn, experience with an act of grace and love. But we can find God and His wondrous work present in ways that at first may appear smaller or more ordinary.

We are being called here to “consider” God’s amazing creation—what He has formed and His living purpose in us. This consideration means we look beyond what the physical senses may be telling us and open our spiritual senses—our humble hearts—to what is really going on.

God’s glory is everywhere if we are awake to it. Each moment contains light and love to behold and enjoy. Even in the darkness, when we are still, we can see a light within us, a hope on the horizon, a sense of meaning and majesty that is ready to show us something bright and new.

Let’s be ready to stand still—to pause in thought even if we are active in our lives—and to think more about God, about good, about the Love that surrounds us and is the very wondrous life within us.

“You observe my wanderings and my sleeping, my waking and my dreaming, and You know everything I do in more detail than even I know.” (Psalms 139: 3, the Voice Translation)

We may feel misunderstood. We may feel confused or uncertain. It may seem we don’t know where we are going or that we don’t like where we’ve been. It may feel difficult to find peace within or an honest sense of worth.

But God sees us. He truly sees us. We are known. We are loved. We are cherished and cared for, every moment of every day. He understands who we really are. He sees our hearts and knows how to feed them and lead us into the best way, the right and progressive life we deserve.

We may wander physically and mentally. We may feel our lives are a constantly changing course or that we are always changing our minds. Our dreams may feel like impossible aspirations. Our fears may seem too large to overcome.

But we don’t know what God knows. He sees our beauty, our glory, the infinite possibilities for our lives. He sees our innocence and our goodness, our strength and our intelligence. God is watching and loving, and this is our assurance, our comfort, our peace.

“And patience develops strength of character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it until finally our hope and faith are strong and steady.” (Romans 5: 4, Living Bible)

Learning patience can take patience! But to consciously choose to discover and utilize this virtue is a blessing. We can pause in the midst of our anxiety and our need to rush forward and make it an occasion to practice trust.

And this opportunity to rely on God and His presence, in the present moment, strengthens and comforts us. It provides us with the peace that is needed to treasure each hour, learn from it, gain insights and inspiration. Hope brightens our day, and we can see things we might not have in our eagerness to push ahead.

We can recognize that patience is not so much waiting for something to happen. It is being still within a space that is already full of God, good, and being open to experiencing His qualities of goodness and Life and Love, then and there. Patience is not simply endurance. It is conscious awareness of what this moment has to offer, and this naturally makes us stronger, steadier, and more ready for the unfolding goodness to come.

“And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small.” (Jeremiah 30:19)

We can join the thanksgiving choir and celebrate the blessings at hand and those to come.

With gratitude comes a more expansive experience. As we celebrate God’s goodness in our lives and look to Him with expectation, He multiplies us. Our eyes are open to divine Love’s provision, and we see more of it appearing.

And our thanksgiving gladness—our awareness of what we have and also what we have to give—brings joy to those around us and to our broader community. The expansiveness of our gratitude can overflow beyond our own homes and naturally feed others with gifts of kindness, hope, comfort.

We can enjoy our Thanksgiving Day holiday and sustain this gratefulness all year. We can embrace our larger family of mankind in our joy and feel that embrace as well, wherever we are. We can let our love and gratitude grow and spread itself out like an abundant feast for our world.

“Live in harmony with each other. Don’t become snobbish but take a real interest in ordinary people. Don’t become set in your own opinions.” (Romans 12: 16, JB Phillips New Testament)

It can be easy to live in our own little world with its fixed judgments and opinions. We may certainly mean well, attributing our thoughts and actions to what feels wise to us and most comfortable. But we are missing out on the glory.

Staying confined in our own beliefs alone, we miss out on what necessarily broadens our lives, what reflects God’s intention of harmony with all creation. As we grow in spiritual understanding, we can recognize that this does not set us apart and above our fellow man. It doesn’t allow us to look down on people as unworthy or pitiable.

Instead, we can embrace others with our openness, our love, our expectation of good, our genuine respect. We can listen to one and all. The ordinary people—those who might cross our path without a second glance—are truly extraordinary. They are God’s ideas, full of His qualities, and certainly worthy of our interest, our time, and our conscious, genuine love.

“Teach me to do your pleasure, because you are my God; your Spirit is sweet; you will lead me in the way of life.” (Psalms 143: 10, Aramaic Bible in Plain English)

We can find guidance and support from a sweet Spirit. We can surrender human will and its ambitions to the gentle certainty of God’s own loving purpose for us.

Let’s be humbly willing to be taught. Let’s remember that to please God—to do and be what He made us to be—is to find satisfaction and peace. Our good and purposeful life is one that God designed and that He made us capable of knowing as well as experiencing.

We can set aside our preconceived notions and judgments of self and allow that sweet voice within us to show us what is truly right and real. Walking with God, step by step, and looking to please Him—goodness and Love—we bring light not only to our lives but to the world as well. We please God. We align with His plan and His power as we let God’s sweet Spirit lead us and eagerly, gratefully follow.

“Those people who are listening to Me, those people who hear what I say and live according to My teachings—you are like a wise man who built his house on a rock, on a firm foundation. When storms hit, rain pounded down and waters rose, levies broke and winds beat all the walls of that house. But the house did not fall because it was built upon rock.” (Matthew 7: 24-25, the Voice Translation)

Let’s listen to God, the divine Mind. Let’s keep ourselves safely established on the rock that is immovable, sound, secure.

We can stop giving power and focus to the world’s scenarios and our own fears and doubts. Instead, we can remember what the Christ revealed. We can rely on and adhere to the teachings that declare God, good, as Life and Love, and ourselves as eternally one with Him. We can be wise by relying on the reliable, rather than letting the winds of opinions and circumstances carry us away from our true selves and best lives.

If we build our house on Love and release the limited self to God’s presence and power, we are grounded on a firm foundation. Our house, our consciousness, can withstand trouble and feel sustained, even when storms inevitably come. We can have a calm certainty within us that knows that peace and harmony can’t really be lost. This is powerful wisdom that can save and set us free.
