Daily Inspiration, December 27th

“Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.” (John 14: 17)

The material world doesn’t know you. Personal sense can’t describe you or define you. Human opinions don’t have a clue as to the glory of you, that true idea that makes up every aspect of your perfect nature, beloved of God and powerful to good works.

The spirit of Truth is that Christ-idea that is the true definition of man, of you as God caused you to be and kept you to be. The material senses have no way of knowing Spirit. They cannot grasp or demonstrate infinite Truth, Life, and Love. Your grandeur transcends matter’s depictions, but it isn’t distant or difficult to claim and know.

Your heart already knows God. Love dwells in you and remains there in spite of the world’s doubts and opposition to goodness. Be still and know Him. Know Life and Love and Truth not as something to strive for or that can be lost through time and circumstance. That which is spiritual has no limits and endures forever. The Truth of you is always with you, its silent assurances at hand. The Truth of you is always preserving you, uplifting you, saving you, and loving you.

Receive the gift of knowing your own majesty–right here, right now, and always!

“Let us be faithful in pointing the way through Christ, as we understand it, but let us also be careful always to ‘judge righteous judgment,’ and never to condemn rashly.” (Science and Health, page 444)

We have a great gift to share. We have the understanding of God as All, as good, and as Love. We have been informed that we are all the sons of God, that because of this we are able to transcend material sense, and be set free to be free. We can’t hold this fact back or be timid about sharing the healing truth with others.

But, we must also be careful that we don’t presume that another is not naturally privy to the good news as he is hearing it. We have to be as ready to listen as to talk, to be receptive to others and their views, whether they seem to match ours or not. Every idea of God is precious. Each one has been given the truth inherently, is being attended to every moment by his Father-Mother, and so is discovering what is right and true for him. We need not claim responsibility for bringing another the Truth, or deciding the time and way that they must live and prove it.

We can also be discerners and not judgers. We can see beyond appearances and assumptions to the true, complete, good man that we are so excited to be coming to know. We should be thankful that every day we are being given the opportunity to recognize God’s man everywhere because that man is the only man there really is. Judging and condemning is not a part of our mission. Our mission is to love.

“The history of Christianity furnishes sublime proofs of the supporting influence and protecting power bestowed on man by his heavenly Father, omnipotent Mind, who gives man faith and understanding whereby to defend himself, not only from temptation, but from bodily suffering.” (Science and Health, page 387)

The ability of God to save and heal has been made evident throughout the centuries. We have a history of proof to rely on. The precedent has been set and the law behind it is valid and in force. We have the constant support and power behind all that we are and all that we do, because we are children of God, formed to show forth His Life.

And God has given us and continues to bestow on us all the tools necessary to know the Truth of being, to demonstrate it, to live it. Our omnipotent Mind gives man faith and understanding. That very faith we may feel betrays us with doubts; that understanding that may seem so elusive, God Himself has already provided us. Just as He has already given us the health that can’t be taken away, that well-being that can’t be kept from us, that peace and joy that we have freely and consistently, so we also have inherited the way of knowing this goodness.

Our loving Father-Mother has taken care of all the details. He protects and defends us. He gives us the very faith and understanding that is needed for our full release to the heaven He has made in us and for us. We already have all that we need to know and experience our good Life as God’s blessed and beloved children.

“Whatever is false or sinful can never enter the atmosphere of Spirit.”  (Science and Health, page 70)

The atmosphere of Spirit is impregnable. No material belief or material consequence can infiltrate its firm defenses. Spirit is that citadel in which we all dwell, and it includes every needful thing while leaving out all that is destructive or false, frightening or mistaken.

We are not residents of a geographical area with its climate, its economy, its boundaries and limits. We reside and abide in that spiritual Truth of our being, that Life that is not confined to material circumstances or defined by human history. Nothing evil or erroneous can enter divine Mind where His ideas—you and me—unfailingly live, and nothing ever has. No demon has gotten through and altered Life as God caused it to be.

We can breathe in that atmosphere of Spirit freely. We can know it has no germs of disease or strains of fear. Spirit is always actively enforcing and supporting Life. And we are Life’s own ideas always faithfully and fully expressed. We can walk within this pure atmosphere, energized by its strong currents of Life and Truth, and know that not only are we free, but we are presently and permanently safe!

“Man reflects infinite Truth, Life, and Love.” (Science and Health, page 94)

The true man, the man that you are, is the reflection of that which is limitless and wonderful. We not only have the qualities of goodness that God has created us to express, we have them fully, enduringly, eternally, infinitely. Life, Truth, and Love are boundless and we abound in them naturally.

Reflection does not own its attributes. Reflection—man–is not the possessor of the substance of Spirit, God. This unlimited good is safe in the Original, in God, in Mind, in the Father-Mother-Creator. Nothing good can be lost nor can it be limited by a false sense of personality, materiality, circumstance, geography. We are always as big in goodness as God is, for we reflect His changeless perfection.

Don’t belittle yourself or anyone else. Man expresses infinite Being. He is Love at its fullest, Life without beginning or end, and Truth triumphant, pure, and unopposed. We are God’s own image, His idea expressed without reservation, condition, or obstruction. There is no partialness to this expression, nothing pared down, diminished, or meager. Truth, Life, and Love are infinite, ever-present, and the very nature of you and of me!

“Hear these imperative commands: ‘Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect!’ ‘Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature!’ ‘Heal the sick!’” (Science and Health, page 37)

These commands to each of us are imperative! We absolutely must obey, because we were made to do so. Our duty to God and man is based on our own readiness and rightness for the job. As God’s own ideas, we cannot possibly go forth promoting error or even keeping silent or apathetic about the good that is ours to live and to prove.

We were made in His image and likeness, perfect and therefore perfectly capable of radiating that light of goodness throughout the world, bringing our heavenly awareness to our ready earth. Neither Jesus nor Mary Baker Eddy was tentative about this declaration of who we are and what our calling is. They knew the power of divine reflection, and the necessity of bearing God’s standard forth eagerly and expectantly into the world.

Imperative: “absolutely necessary or required; unavoidable.” There’s no way to escape it! Our perfection and its demonstration are both entirely natural and absolutely necessary. Let’s get about being who we were formed to be—powerful ideas of God, actively proving His presence, His goodness, and His all-embracing Love. It’s our calling and our blessing.

“In some way, sooner or later, all must rise superior to materiality, and suffering is often the divine agent in this elevation.” (Science and Health, page 444)

We have been given the kingdom. The spiritual sense of Life is ours to claim naturally and to enjoy fully. We must come to recognize the limits the mortal mind has seemed to place on our gracious and grateful reception of all that belongs to us. In order to do this, sometimes there may seem to be suffering. It isn’t punishment, but a “divine agent” to our “elevation.”

God’s Love will not let us continue to stay confined to a material sense of life and its unfair limits. This true Love requires that we give up any familiar comfort with that which is less than right and less than satisfying for us. We were formed by God to be His perfect expression, to radiate His glory and announce His goodness. We cannot truly do this if we are still content with living a lie.

The seeming suffering cannot harm our true state. It cannot touch who we are. It can only force us to give up the wrong thinking and acting, that which limits our loveliness, and to come to know the better, higher, and holier way. We can cease the suffering sense as we consciously recognize who God is and Who we are naturally as His children, and refuse to see or be anything less. The discomfort in matter and the dissatisfaction with material life can only lead us necessarily into the Comforter’s arms, into the real Truth of our Life as spiritual, full, satisfying, pure, and free.

Daily Inspiration, December 1st

“Human will-power is not Science. Human will belongs to the so-called material senses, and its use is to be condemned.” (Science and Health, page 144)

Christian Science is not based on human will. It is not forcing the human mind to think something or do something. It is not one person willing another person or oneself to be better. Human will is not only an unfruitful approach to thorough and lasting healing and human betterment, it is a form of hypnotism, an activity of the mortal mind, and it disobeys and dishonors the One Mind, God.

It may seem at times that we need to rely on human will to get us where we need to go, to discipline ourselves, or to achieve a certain result. But human will is not wisdom, only material effort. It does not come of what is really right and what is truly powerful, but merely of material reliance which is by nature limited. This method cannot bring us the natural freedom and satisfying life that is our own ready inheritance to claim.

Yield up that belief in your own personal will or the reliance on another to bring about results. Your heaven rests easily on the divine will, and that will is always actively at hand. We must give up the sense that we are little individual minds striving through human effort to be more godlike. Instead, the answer and peace and resolution come by releasing ourselves to the divine will, that which is not human desire, but spiritual rightness. This sweet and powerful impulse of divine wisdom must unfold life according to that which is not only good, but which is perfectly, naturally, right for us and for all.

Daily Inspiration, November 29th

“For we walk by faith, not by sight:” (II Corinthians 5: 7)

As we love and adore God and recognize the Christ–the Truth come to earthly beliefs– we can no longer judge our lives or anyone else’s by appearances. We can’t take what the senses feed us as an indication of how well we are doing or what our potential is for life. We can’t take our steps merely according to what seems humanly right. Instead, we walk, live, give, express through our reliance on God’s own clear and flawless Truth.

Sense testimony is a blind guide, and we have a more confident one. Our faith, our reliance on and love of good, God, Mind, opens our spiritual eyes to limitless reality. As we give up the limits that personal sense erects for the broad horizons of Soul’s viewpoint, we are able to experience the Life God has designed for us, one that is abundant in good, suitable to us, and pleasing.

We are followers of our Guide, our Shepherd. We walk with Him, trusting not what human opinions or material testimony would attempt to project for our acceptance. Instead, we walk in the sweet simplicity of a child, reliant on his own Father and Mother to take us where we need to go, to show us what we need to know, and to love us forward with a gentle insistence that is just right.

Daily Inspiration, November 24th

“Sing unto the Lord with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God: Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.” (Psalms 147: 7-8)

It’s time to sing for our supper! Let’s join together in praise and joyous harmony for the gift of God’s grace, His abundant love, and His precious promises ripe for the claiming. Let’s sing forth our gratitude in our conscious awareness of His goodness. Let us love the good we do see and be awake to even that which we do not see.

Creation lives and moves according to God’s will, His loving intention, His order, and His limitless design. God is everywhere and His fullness is ever active, so His qualities are always at hand for us to accept and to relish. We can and must be grateful for that which is real and right and present. The awareness of our abundance is our key to receiving it and to sharing it.

God has never been anything but plentiful. The belief in lack is a belief alone and does not affect in any degree the boundless Principle. Let’s sing the song of gratitude for the grandeur of comfort and love, of security and peace, of fun and freedom, for wisdom and health and agility and energy. These are God expressed and so they are ours today and every day. Let us breathe in the aroma of His beautiful gifts, and dine together on the meat of His always ready, always right, always satisfying goodness and love.

The happiest of Thanksgivings to you all!
