Daily Inspiration, January 1st

“For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.” (Isaiah 65: 17)

As we enter into a new year, let’s make it an opportunity to take a renewed view on all things. Each day, each moment, God’s creation is newly revealed, fresh with promise and joy and activity. The divine Life does not settle in with old, limited, worn out or overwrought ideas, merely getting comfortable in a crypt of yesterday’s relics. Life lives.

And we are children of the divine Life, so we live as well. All the good there is belongs to God, so it endures. But each new moment we are subject to God’s fresh thoughts and His unchanging ability to bring forth sweet surprises and salvation and peace. A new heaven and a new earth—the reality of God’s kingdom showing itself in our daily human experience– are ours for the taking today because Soul’s infinite beauty can’t be confined or depleted.

Accept today’s glorious and loving renewal. Looking over our shoulder with regret or carrying fears forth into a day that is full of perfecting protection and affection, is an unnecessary burden. The former things, the old thinking that never did us any favors, can be left in last year without a backward glance. You are not your history. You are not even your future. You are this moment’s child, new born through grace, innocent and ready and loved by God.

Happy New Year!

Daily Inspiration, December 27th

“Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.”(Philippians 3: 15)

As we claim that perfect view of ourselves and accept our status as children of God, Spirit, we can think and act accordingly. Knowing that God is the one Mind and that He is in all ways and at all times all-knowing and all-loving, we can rest in His consciousness; we can be the expression of His right thinking and acting, naturally.

No one is excluded from this holy status and the ability to live it forth. If we wait for human perfection, we will be waiting a long time! But, if we accept our true spiritual perfection, as God’s own ideas–perfect because divine Mind is flawless–we are capable of achieving what is in fact our true and original state of being. We must begin with God’s perfect ideal–with Him as Cause and us as perfect effect. God made man, and He made him just right.

Claiming this heritage without reservation, our vision is clearer, for we are not looking through the mask of a false identity, or coming from a premise of personal creation in matter. With this new and true vision, we are able to see God’s revelation. Anything that is not in line with that perfection of thought and action will be seen for its error, and can then be cast off as having nothing to do with the identity God made, the goodness and truth of our nature. No ignorance of our perfection will be allowed by infinite Mind. As we abide in the Truth, any flawed thought will be made apparent to us and its exposure to God’s light in us will cause it to disappear as we shine on, with healing beauty.

“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9: 6)

Our Christmas is a sort of birthday of our own to commemorate. It is a new recognition of what Jesus came to show us, the facts of our identity and origin, a fresh new celebration of our life. The emergence of this Christ ideal to human view is a cause for rejoicing today and every day, for we are subject every day to the spirit of Christmas, the Spirit which is God’s steadfast, active, healing Love.

The son of God is innocent and yet he is powerful. He is a pure child of the Almighty and this heritage makes all things possible to him. Jesus declared this holy ideal to us. He showed us what it means to be the children of God, forever at one with infinite Life, Truth, and Love and conscious of that fact, accepting it as the truth.

Let us today get into true sense of Christmas and recognize what Jesus proclaimed and demonstrated. The Truth of Life—God and man as one and perfect and immortal—christens us with that wonderful wisdom and might that endures forever. It is an awareness of divine Love that makes us peaceful peacemakers, forever rejoicing that our savior is right here, and that this right here is the very place where “heaven and angels sing!”

Merry Christmas!

“This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.” (Isaiah 43: 15)

God made us for Him. He created us in order to shine forth His intention and His high quality. We were made with the express purpose of being the ideal representatives of all that divine Mind could conceive and divine Love adore. We were formed to be the fully accurate evidence of all that God eternally is.

And it is not about us. It is not about human beliefs of self and personality. We are not made perfect in order that we can be arrogant and self-righteous and puffed up with pride and judgment. We were made in order to show forth God’s praise, to be the active manifestation of God, good. Everything we are and do should direct thought and worship back to God, to the Principle that is divine Love and unadulterated Truth.

Let’s be clear about our origin and the reason for our lives. With God as the source, substance, and subject of all that we are, you and I are not left out. We are set free. It is because of God that we must always have that natural purity, innocence and beauty. It is because God is the great I AM, that we are released to His right activity, His perfect productivity, His certainty, His fearlessness. We are because He is, and we are satisfied because to praise Him is to live in goodness and in joy.

Daily Inspiration, December 18th

“Man is by no means a material germ rising from the imperfect and endeavoring to reach Spirit above his origin.” (Science and Health, page 246)

You are not a speck of material potential waiting for growth, your big break, and some validation in the human experience. You are more than this. And it has to do with your starting point. Because we are truly born of God, good, Spirit, and not of matter, we begin in completeness and expand simply in our awareness of that.

Spiritual perfection is not something out of reach for us. It is the very essence of our being. We are not a material germ needing material watering to bring us to fruition and beauty and peace. We began as a conception of God, an idea fully formed of His qualities and already meeting His standards of excellence. Our origin is Spirit, so it is the very substance of our being. We must live and move and thrive according to this flawless premise. We must accept the truth of our nature and its fully-formed goodness.

Matter can never be spirit. A material man will never be a spiritual one. There is really only one man or woman here and that is the spiritual one, the true one, the one who is at the point of excellence and knows it. This is you. Don’t accept a lesser, false sense of yourself, an imposter. You are not a germ hoping to flower. You are the very complete bloom of God’s own beautiful ideal. Accept this fact and live accordingly!

Daily Inspiration, December 13th

“Love is the liberator.” (Science and Health, page 225)

Our freedom of body and mind is contingent on divine Love. And what is loving is also true, for Love and Truth are one, God. So the Truth of Love is what must naturally and necessarily set us free. Only true Love really can free us from anguish, fear, shame, doubt, and any inharmony that would appear in our lives and our bodies.

Let Love release you. Allow nothing unloving to have control over you, to keep you unfairly imprisoned. Resentment, anger, selfishness, competitiveness, envy, fear neglect the presence of divine Love in favor of human will and its deluded self-righteousness. This false and fallible ego is not setting you free. It is tying you in knots. It limits your capacities by attempting to find power in that which is inherently powerless. Only God, Love, has power.

Divine Love is never distant. A belief that it is far from us or that we don’t deserve it, will never make that lie true. Set aside any excuses for being less receptive of Love or less expressive of it, and just let it in. Divine Love is always and actively right where you are, asking you to believe, to accept, to feel its healing presence. Let yourself be loved and let yourself be Love. Be a liberated man or woman! Be free now!

Daily Inspiration, December 11th

“And Moses went up unto God, and the Lord called unto him out of the mountain, saying…Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.” (Exodus 3, 4)

Our escape from the bondage of material sense is assured. No enemy calling itself sickness, problem, shame, fear, can pursue us, gain on us, and ensnare us into its slavery. We are free men. God has made us so, and it is by His love that we can withdraw from confining beliefs about our lives, and go safely home to the land of the free.

God reminds Moses that He has destroyed the enemy, the Egyptians chasing the chosen as they traverse the wilderness to the Promised Land. God has shown His children their release from slavery and their natural place of freedom. God had let no impediment stand in their way, clearing a path through seas and providing food in the desert on a daily basis, guiding them always.

And all of this protection and direction, God is telling Moses and each of us, is in order to bring us to Himself. God is always actively drawing us into His Truth, His Life, His perfect Love. The eagles’ wings that are both powerful and protecting soar above the illusion of material living into the reality of spiritual life. Hear and trust God’s word about your well-being, your safety, your exemption from harm. He is reminding us that we are always being borne, carried by grace to our true home, the promised land of God’s loving, undaunted, and perpetual care.

“The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.” (Psalms 121: 7)

We may feel spoiled, tarnished. We may feel that our lives have been damaged by experiences, others’ actions, and our own. We may see ourselves as no longer pure and fresh and innocent. But this presentation of you is not the truth of your being. God has preserved you, kept you perfect.

God’s Love is a preservative. His affection and protection means that our true natures and our true lives are maintained and sustained forever. Our goodness and original flavor is in no way lost or tainted. God has made us in Spirit and He keeps us spiritually. We are not material identities with lives that have had their way with us.

We are spiritual ideas, the right and good and beloved thoughts of God. This man and this woman that you were caused to be have not gone anywhere. They are ready for the claiming and the living. We do not need to believe that material life has more control over us than God, our Maker. You aren’t lost from goodness or fallen from grace. You don’t need to remake yourself. God has you in His Love and in this Love you remain at your very best, safe from harm or misuse. Listen for His voice telling you who you really are and how you really are and rejoice that your soul, your identity and glory, is preserved forever.

“In God’s creation ideas become productive, obedient to Mind.” (Science and Health, page 544)

There is no waste in divine Mind. There is no lethargy of thought and no obstacles to right action. God has created obedient ideas They are built to carry out His perfect plan and to always harmonize with each other. Every individual idea, born of God’s intention, must express that purpose without hindrance or resistance or delay.

Man is a productive idea. We are always the reflection of God’s perfect qualities and His right action. Each one of us naturally expresses God’s pure and loving motive and His capacities for good are inherent in us. This is not because we are personal gods or little creators. It is because we are always at one with the One Mind–ideas that He has conceived and so subject to His high standards.

There is no man or woman that is useless, worn out, or without a significant calling. There is no one who is simply not skilled enough, motivated enough, or “normal” enough to carry out God’s productivity. Perfect Mind made nothing superfluous, extraneous, or faulty. Every idea fits into His broad vision for Life. Each is right and powerful simply by nature of the creative Principle that formed him, and each must contribute directly and productively to God’s active, efficient, perfect, magnificent, satisfying and satisfied, whole.

Daily Inspiration, November 29th

“Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am in trouble: mine eye is consumed with grief, yea, my soul and my belly. For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.” (Psalms 31: 9-10)

The psalmist’s complaints are no different from ours. We may find ourselves preoccupied with worry, with a sense of grief over our lives and our mistakes and losses. We feel like we are in trouble, in a spot we can’t get out of, stuck forever in the mesmerized sense that we can’t escape from the pain, the fear, and it is making us sick and sorrowful. We just may have lost hope.

But we know, as the psalmist did, that there is a recourse. There is a saving answer. There is a place where hope lives and where peace is the atmosphere. It is the encompassing wings of God’s mercy–those wings of Love that both shelter us and take us aloft and out of doubt and the prison of material sense analysis of things. God’s Love is bigger than our attachment to our troubles. God’s voice of Truth can break that unnecessary bondage and open the doors of our life to the good that is at hand.

Everyone sighs and worries and cries. All of us at times feel lost and without a way home. But just as the psalmist knew, these are times for grace. These are the very times that we can call on God for our answer and our salvation. We can’t do it alone and we don’t need to. When we can’t see past our own illusions, we need the light of Love to show us the door out, to wake us to the fact that we are, in fact, safe, happy, worthy, and free.
