Daily Inspiration, June 3rd

“Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts.” (Science and Health, page 261)

Keep your thought focused on the good if you want to experience that well-being. Begin with the riches of gratitude, if you are feeling mesmerized by good’s opposite, by troubles, limits, lack, and fears. This consciousness of what is truly good and right and real and satisfying in life leaves little room for that darkness to remain dark. One candle of thankful awareness will light the whole cave and show you a way out.

The good that is already yours consists of even more than the material things you see or the people in your life (although these certainly can be evidence of good, of God’s presence). Truth and Life and Love are at hand and fill all space at all times. Abundance is a divine Principle, and so it is ours to know and appreciate. Humor and laughter and music and art and nature are great gifts that are evidence of God’s presence and worthy of recognizing and cherishing.

Let this reflection on good things occupy your thought. Include that loveliness that is seen as well as those things that we do not readily see with our material eyes—the availability of perfect opportunity, the surprise of tomorrow’s sunrise, the next occasion to give to another of your love. And in proportion to that awareness of the sunlight of good brightening your thought, the shadows will flee and you will be able to see even more of God’s glorious good, prepared lovingly just for you today.

Daily Inspiration, May 29th

“Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn about) and become like little children [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving], you can never enter the kingdom of heaven [at all].” (Matthew 18: 3, Amplified Bible)

Repent of your ego. Change your mind about your own human knowledge and the need to be in control. Let go of that sense that life is your responsibility, for good or for bad, that you are the one for credit or blame. There is no heaven in being burdened. There is no freedom in being the parent of your life.

Be the child and do it now. Turn back the clock of mortal beliefs and restore the original settings. Be the little one of God that you were meant to be. Claim anew the innocence that is within you, that deep desire to simply listen and follow, to be taught and to make new discoveries. Take a fresh look at the world as a child would and go forth with your thought ready to wake up to Life and to Love.

It may seem like a challenge to repent, to give up those habits of shame and blame and victimization and fear and cynicism. But Jesus wasn’t asking us to do something we could not do. He was too loving for that. What he kept on telling us and proving was that we are children of God, and so we are not becoming something else, but simply accepting what we are. That genuine childlikeness is within us; that paradise is not lost or distant. Truly, Jesus said. Honestly, our only way to be at peace, happy, satisfied is to be the very children of God we already so truly are.

“At the beginning God expressed himself. That personal expression, that word, was with God, and was God, and he existed with God from the beginning. All creation took place through him, and none took place without him.” (John 1: 1-3, JB Phillips New Testament)

God’s word, the very Truth of being, is the one creative Principle of all that exists. God spoke: He announced His purpose, He expressed Himself eloquently and perfectly at the beginning, as the Originator, and He said all that ever was said or needed to be said.

The fullness of His Word, His Truth of His own Father-Motherhood, is the first and final reality of things. His awareness of His own thoughts and His love for His offspring, His own perfect creation is the forever fact of Life–our Life. And this Truth and its expression remains in its original form: God and man at one, every idea He conceived being sustained by His constant attention, protection, and affection.

Nothing was formed but what God formed. Nothing unlike infinite, pure goodness, has a beginning nor was it expressed, made manifest. The Word remains with God and that Word is everlasting Life–God’s immortal children dwelling as the constant, immediate, and eternal expression of His boundless, flawless Love.

Daily Inspiration, May 22nd

“When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.” (Proverbs 3: 24)

Our nights can seem to be some of our most challenging times when they are meant to be our most restful and replenishing. The darkness and stillness may seem to give the devil, that belief in evil, an open door to knock on our consciousness and stir us up at times both physically and mentally, to make us fearful and anxious and uncomfortable.

Let’s deny the devil a place in our bed. There isn’t room. Let’s remember that God is with us at all times and is the very substance of every sleeping or waking moment. His goodness is active presence at all times. There is no place or opportunity for fear or any reason for it. We rest in God’s consciousness, His perfect peace, not in material thinking or in a material body. His wise and loving Mind gives us a comfy place to lay our heads and rest our cares.

Your sleep shall be sweet, for divine Love requires it. You are never alone and never separate from God’s conscientious control over all things. We can let go of the ruminating, the mental and physical tossing and turning, and let God’s angels get busy with preparing our perfect morning, our beautiful life. They do not need our help.

We can gratefully and willingly receive the night as a place to be loved by God without conversation or conditions, and relish this great and sweet and healing release.

Daily Inspiration, May 20th

“…we are the children of God. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;” (Romans 8: 16, 17)

We are not children of fate, children of time, children of mortal experience or of human generation. We are the very children of God. The offspring of God remain forever His little ones, the innocent ideas of His pure Mind and the joy of His loving heart. These dear children are never left to fend for themselves or to take over control of Life.

The children of men and of circumstance would endure limits and lack, personal flaws and betrayals. But this is not your true identity and you don’t need to settle for less than the facts. You are born of God. You are a joint-heir with Christ to the very kingdom of great goodness. You are loved as purely and significantly as Jesus, and are the natural and uncontested recipient of the full good of the Father-Mother.

Be childlike, but not childish. Don’t fuss about what you haven’t got or pout about what you want or envy another and try to take his toys from him. You are a child of God, so you are content. You are loved and have been naturally bestowed with a heritage of freedom and a full inheritance of good. You are whole, complete, without regrets or fears. Material possessions and power are elusive and unsatisfying. You have been given the very kingdom, the Love of God that is a constant and will never leave you without what is right, good, and yours.

Daily Inspiration, May 15th

“Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:” (Luke 6: 37)

Jesus clearly did not approve of judgment, of passing sentence on others based on personal perceptions. He saw that in order to feel true harmony and peace in one’s own life, one could not go about treating others poorly or even seeing them as unworthy, meriting condemnation, or unforgivable.

This admonition was not merely about being a good human being. Jesus’s teachings were based on the law of Love. One cannot be loyal to God and in line with His harmonious Life if he is not recognizing and acknowledging God’s unopposed goodness. Jesus knew that God was the One and Only Mind and Life, and to condemn and judge was to acknowledge and accept a power and presence apart from God, good, and to attempt to separate man from His Creator.

Take this loving advice from the Master and utilize it toward others and also most diligently toward yourself. Are you living your life or judging it? Are you honoring yourself as a child of God or condemning yourself as some mistaken, miserable mortal? Are you lovingly forgiving your human ignorances and embracing yourself with the Truth that reforms and informs, naturally and lovingly?

Release yourself from the need to judge and be judged. Leaving this unnecessary activity behind will give you the time, energy, enthusiasm, and ability to really live and to give—joyously, freely, productively, gratefully!

Daily Inspiration, May 13th

“Keep on asking and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking [reverently] and [the door] will be opened to you. For everyone who keeps on asking receives; and he who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking, [the door] will be opened.” (Matthew 7: 7-8, Amplified Bible)

This translation gives us a clear sense of what seeking and finding is all about. It is more than a fleeting plea for help or momentary relief from trouble. It is devotion. It is persistence. It is a genuine and patient openness. It is listening each moment for direction and instruction, and being willing to hear not simply what our human hopes would want us to hear, but what is really true, satisfying, healing, and right.

You will find, and the treasures of God will be given to you. In fact, they already are yours. Our constancy and grateful asking is an hourly opportunity to see more of our heaven open up before us; to not only have momentary relief, but to gain deep understanding of what is real and why, and so to gain true healing, that which endures and which continues to reveal blessings.

The verse is not meant to discourage us. It is not meant to make us feel as if we must wait for our God. It is a promise that as we seek rightly, we will find rightness and peace. As we bring our whole hearts to God with consecration and expectation, we will gain a new gift of Love for each asking, a new joy for each prayer, and a daily occasion to find out just how devoted God is to each one of us. His rich daily gifts never run out and are always just right for today.

Daily Inspiration, May 1st

“I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.” (John 14: 18)

It may feel at times as if life has left you without options and hope, or uncomfortable in your choices, your situation, or your body. But we are never at a point so far gone to be too distant for God to reach with His healing, saving, Love.

Ever-presence does not need to be sought in a distant outcome or eventual set of circumstances. It is already right where you are and it is God, infinite good, perfect Mind, Life, and Love. The comforts of the great Comforter, the Christ-Truth of being, will come. The very message of the healing goodness of God, that Jesus brought to mankind in what seemed miraculous, just keeps on coming—to you.

You will never be left alone or without an answer of peace. You will never be left to work things out through your own human ingenuity or force of will. You will never be without a tender touch of assurance when you need it, wherever you are or however guilty or ashamed or doubting you may feel. The comforting Truth of God’s Love will always be with you.

Jesus left his disciples with this assurance. His physical presence would not be with them or with us, but the very purpose and substance of his healing word would and does remain and remain active. It is the Comforter, the immediate presence of Love, and it will always come and keep on coming right to us, right where we are, right now.

Daily Inspiration, April 29th

“Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us.” (Psalms 62: 8)

You can trust in God’s presence and care. Your heart’s desires as well as your doubts and fears are safe with Him. Don’t be timid or prideful about pouring out your heart to Him, releasing those challenging concerns to His tenderness and His power to cleanse and renew you.

We can trust our Father-Mother at all times. There is no occasion too small or too shameful or too difficult for God’s infinite Love and guidance to handle. He is always a refuge, one that is more present than our friends and more understanding of us than we even are of ourselves. He has a lap big enough for each and every one of us to sit on, to be the child whose tears get wiped away and whose ignorance is instructed into wisdom and grateful joy.

God is Truth and He is Love. He will never fail us. His purpose is not to make us feel stupid or ashamed, but instead to bring us into an awareness of what is true, right, and real. He is always with us, a sanctuary where honest revelations are met with kindness, new ideas, assurances, and that clear awareness that we are perfectly understood, perfectly loved, and never alone.

Daily Inspiration, April 24th

“Spirit, the synonym of Mind, Soul, or God, is the only real substance. The spiritual universe, including individual man, is a compound idea, reflecting the divine substance of Spirit.” (Science and Health, page 468)

What are you made of? Can you stand the test of time and of life and of challenges? Of course you can! You are made of a divine substance. Every good and perfect quality composes your being and that of the universe. And all this wonderful substance of Life, Truth, and Love are in God Himself, sustained and maintained by Him.

We reflect Spirit, infinitude and immutable goodness. We are individually and collectively a compound idea. That doesn’t make us a collection of material parts or a grouping of mortal minds or even a galaxy of stars and planets. It means God is the substance of all that is, and His plentiful yet collaborating qualities make up creation including each one of us.

Acclaimed scientist Carl Sagan has been quoted as saying “we are made of star-stuff,” referring to the physical elements that make up the cosmos. Well, we are made of star- stuff in that we are made of the same celestial goodness that God caused to shine in our heavens. But our cosmos is spiritual. It is that which has existed and will exist forever in the Mind of God, in the creative intelligence of divine Love.

In fact, the word “cosmos” is derived from the Greek meaning “order, harmony.” So we truly exist in absolute oneness with all, built of God’s intention, and harmoniously expressing in unity with all creation that spiritual “star-stuff” that glows with beauty, intelligence, constancy, and immortality!
