“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” (Matthew 6:34, The Message)
Stay in the moment, and let the moment be with God, in awareness of what God is doing right now.
We can lose a pure and fruitful moment in our worry over tomorrow, or even over the next minute. Over-thinking and fear, predicting trouble and filling in all the details of what might be, is not a good use of our time. It’s fruitless and it denies us the joy and power that would be ours if we just stood still, grateful and ready to hear God’s message for this hour.
God is showing us what is right and good now. If we listen, stay awake and present with Him—with Truth and Love—we feel at peace. We know that we are cared for and whatever needs thinking or doing comes naturally, comfortably. Panic dissipates and reason and control take over, leading to good outcomes.
What we can know in this moment, as this message tells us, is that tomorrow is in God’s hands. We’ll be given what is needed when we need it, to deal with what comes. Our preparation for tomorrow isn’t about anxiety and planning for the worst. It is about letting go of the human scenarios and enjoying this moment fully because we know God is ahead of us for what is to come.
