“He answered me, ‘My grace is always more than enough for you, and my power finds its full expression through your weakness.’ So I will celebrate my weaknesses, for when I’m weak I sense more deeply the mighty power of Christ living in me.” (II Corinthians 12:9, The Passion Translation)

Let’s remember the stunning power of humility. Let’s not whine in those days of weakness or try to prop ourselves up with pride or human will. Instead, let’s make each humbling moment—each moment of uncertainty, each time we feel overwhelmed—an occasion to feel God’s abundant grace.

These times when we surrender self, because that self seems to be failing, are the very times we begin to see the face of God, to feel His arms around us, uplifting us, and to begin to know who we really are and what is possible through His loving power.

When we rely on ego and our own ingenuity, we can only go so far. We miss the fine points, we feel the burden, we substitute our wits for the wisdom of God that heals, that reveals all that is best, right, meaningful, and satisfying.

When we feel weak, we are at the point of supreme readiness to be filled up by God’s Love, by His more-than-sufficient grace. This is true energy and light, and it is truly seen, felt, understood, when in those weak times we humbly allow God to be God and to show us how to shine with the radiance of His active, animating, saving goodness and thorough and amazing grace.
