“Let the kindness of the Lord our God be with us. Make us successful in everything we do. Yes, make us successful in everything we do.” (Psalms 90: 17, God’s Word Translation)

This verse is a prayer for success. It is a yearning for achievement in a way that is right and fruitful.

This psalm does more than simply ask to get something from God. It begins with a yielding to Him. It acknowledges God’s qualities at the outset, recognizing that His very presence is what grants us this success.

And the prayer specifically notes our need for God’s kindness. It encourages a receptivity to this quality of Spirit. It is not force or might that is being requested here. It is an awareness of compassion, gentle tenderness, kindness that leads to that success in all that we do.

As that kindness is seen to be with us, it is known also to be in us, expressed by us. This kindness is true accomplishment. It is achieving God’s purpose, one that blesses others with a goodness that brings to the human situation the healing influence of the divine.

This true success is available to us, in everything we do, because God’s kindness, His abundant Love, is ever with us and in us to feel and to generously share.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8: 28)

We can lean on this assurance. We can recognize that loving God, being motivated to do what is good and right, results in harmony for all. We can relax into a trust in the outcome with less fear or preoccupation with any seeming impediments or resistance.

Things are working together for good. All things. That means that even when it seems that life isn’t quite going as we would have expected or outlined, there is a higher principle in operation, a spiritual force that keeps things on track for success.

It isn’t that we are humanly perfect at all times. It is that our hearts yearn for good. We wish to serve a higher goal, to love and to give and even to learn to be better. These intentions are God’s calling, and He is in charge of our mission, designing each detail to bless.

So, let’s remember that we are safe in God’s plan. Often the very things that seem to be working against us, from our human and limited perspective, may be what ultimately unfolds true healing, progress, and peace.

“I will lead the blind by a way they did not know; I will guide them on paths they have not known. I will turn darkness to light in front of them and rough places into level ground. This is what I will do for them, and I will not abandon them.” (Isaiah 42: 16, Christian Standard Bible)

No matter what seems to concern us as we walk through our lives, we have a trusty guide. God is with us to reveal light along our path as we go forward with Him, one step at a time.

We may feel blind and uncertain. We may wonder if we should stay where we are or move ahead to something unknown. We may feel alone, or that others in our lives add to our burden or just don’t understand us.

But we have this promise from God. We are not abandoned, and our needs are known. God is our companion in the dark, providing ready wisdom along with the comfort that eases us in each new moment. Those rough patches may seem like obstacles, but God’s goodness, kindness, smooths them out.

Our confidence is not in personal knowledge, but in receptivity and trust. We may not know the way. We may not see how things can come together. But God is ahead of us and with us at the same time. He knows the way. He knows His purpose for us which is loving, progressive, right, safe, and good.

“To calculate one’s life-prospects from a material basis, would infringe upon spiritual law and misguide human hope.” (Science and Health, p. 319)

We can do our best to stop outlining our lives, making predictions based on unfair criteria. Our life-prospects are not what material sense and human opinion would often want to describe. Those perspectives are limited. They cannot see past their own beliefs, and they reject spiritual law and its natural grace.

Let’s allow God, the divine Mind, to reveal what our lives are and can be. The Truth is not stuck in time and statistics. It is not hindered by genetics and upbringing. Human circumstances can’t influence our true grandeur. We have every reason to expect more for our lives.

We don’t need to know what that greater experience will be. But we can do our best to stop looking at calendars and clocks, and listening to complaints and fears, more than we do to the voice within that tells us there is so much more for us and that we deserve to see it.

We can stop judging that voice as unrealistic and begin to realize that it is our salvation. It is that inspired Word of God, of Life, of Love, beckoning us to discover what is truly possible for us today, tomorrow, and beyond. We can gratefully accept that we are meant to blossom and to live lives of power, purpose, and poetry.

“…the great triumph is not in your authority over evil, but in God’s authority over you and presence with you. Not what you do for God but what God does for you—that’s the agenda for rejoicing.” (Luke 10: 20, the Message Bible)

Let’s get our agenda straight. Let’s realize that God’s plan is for our great triumph and for our grateful rejoicing.

Evil may seem to run rampant and to want to gain our fear and our focus. But we can achieve victory over the darkness and its hold on us by our recognition of God’s ever-presence. We have dominion over evil because God is in control, and He is all-powerful goodness. It is not personal strength or capacity that wins the day. It is God with us.

And while showing our devotion to God is wonderfully freeing and right, it isn’t what we are doing for Him that is the best part of the story. It is what God is doing for us and will continue to do. It is by our reliance on His goodness that we are good. It is by a trust in His Truth that we are confident. It is by a yielding to His Love that we feel comforted, comfortable, safe.

Let God be God. Follow His agenda which promises both triumph and joy!

“Thus saith the Lord; Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears: for thy work shall be rewarded, saith the Lord.” (Jeremiah 31: 16)

What a comforting message. And it comes directly from God, ever-present divine Love. We can count on the good Lord to do what He promises.

When we find ourselves in those times of tears and trials, we can be still and hear the voice that is ready to heal and bless. We may think that we have every reason to cry over loss or lost hope, or to feel that all our efforts are for nothing. But God says otherwise. Truth and Love require a reward for us, a release from our challenges and a renewed life of joy and goodness.

God, like a mother, is telling us everything is going to be alright. We can stop crying and come into that holy embrace, calm our anxieties, and remember that God sees us for who we truly are—Her child—and wants the very best for us.

We can yield to this comfort, accept the presence of divine mercy and grace, and be ready to feel the sun shining on us again.

“Pay all your debts except the debt of love for others—never finish paying that! For if you love them, you will be obeying all of God’s laws, fulfilling all his requirements.” (Romans 13: 8, the Living Bible)

Yes, we should do our best to pay our debts, to keep our balance with others free and clear. It is right and brings peace to know that we have restored to another what belongs to them or showed sufficient appreciation for what may have been done for us. It rests the soul to feel that we have done or are doing our best to pay what we honestly owe.

But according to the counsel in this verse, we can never stop paying off the debt of love for others. These continual payments are what we owe to God. And by this perpetual outlay, we not only serve Him Who is Love, but gain all the goodness that this payment brings us.

For Love is boundless, from God, and by its use it multiplies. We are blessed by the giving of love to one another, and also by receiving it without qualification. This Love utilized will never run out. We will always have enough to continue to pay that debt, to share love freely and to be generous about it.

These “love offerings” are not an expense to us. They are what make us rich beyond measure—rich in joy, satisfaction, and true peace of mind.

“Creation is ever appearing, and must ever continue to appear from the nature of its inexhaustible source.” (Science and Health, p. 507)

God is Life. He is eternal, without limits and without end. He is the Creator, the Author of all.

His creation is complete and yet it is never without activity, freshness, originality, surprise. How is this possible? God made all and saw it as good. But God doesn’t dwell in time, nor can His creation be confined. We catch human glimpses of divine perfection. God unfolds to our perception more of His glorious artistry, one moment at a time. His pace is loving for us, and also progressive. We can trust the appearing of this creation. It comes from a source that is boundless, wise, and loving.

We are God’s masterful expression, and we also manifest this creativity. We can’t be without new thoughts, fresh inspiration, progress, growth, and also amusement and joys. God’s wonderful ideas are always coming forth. His Spirit won’t allow stagnation. His infinitude means there is never an end to or a limited space for His concepts to be made known.

You are at the point of perceiving a new idea this moment. Be receptive to it. God will bring it to you. Wait with expectancy. Let go of the ego. Trust the loving Creator, Author, Architect, to give you something new and right to experience and to express.

“…the wise are peace-makers who go on quietly sowing for a harvest of righteousness—in other people and in themselves.” (James 3: 18, JB Phillips New Testament)

Quietly planting seeds of goodness, kindness, and peace is true wisdom. We can bring about a fruitful life and a rewarding one when we begin with right motives. As our heart is united with God, with Love’s higher purpose, we can achieve much. We can help ourselves and others, gently yet powerfully.

This is not the work of one day. It is about living, day by day, doing the best we can to follow a path of compassion and harmony. It means we don’t let ourselves get too distracted by the noise around us, and instead continue to cultivate honest and pure love in ourselves and share that with others.

If we crave peace and want to see it in the world, then we can begin in this moment by recognizing that higher goal and allowing it to govern our experience. We can daily reacquaint ourselves with God, good, and follow a path that feels kind and helpful. We can learn to love what God made—ourselves, others, His heavenly earth—and do our best to honor it, to do what we can to be peacemakers and to see the sweet and healing results of those righteous efforts.

“Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home.” (Luke 15: 4-6, New International Version)

The good shepherd will never let one of his sheep stray. Each one is precious to him, and he takes special care to seek out that one that has run away from the pack. And when that little one that may have caused the shepherd to worry is found and brought home, there is joy, gratitude.

We are all important to God. No matter how far we may wander from what feels right and good; no matter how confused or even faithless we may be, God is prepared to find us. The obedient ones, the sheep who know that they are loved and feel safe, are doing fine where they are, in their familiar pastures. They are secure in the awareness that they are cared for.

When we lose our way, we don’t get shunned, abandoned, or punished by God. We get sought out. God knows we belong to Him—to goodness, to Life, to Love. He is ready to find us, wherever our lives or our hearts seem to have roamed, and to carry us back to safety, to bring us home to our best selves, to a place of peace within.

And this restoration is a cause for joy. God is not angry at us. He knows we belong in His place, in His embrace, and there is a celebration in awakening us to this sweet reality as well, to the safety and freedom of home.
