Daily Inspiration, September 20th

“All that passing laws against sin did was produce more lawbreakers. But sin didn’t, and doesn’t, have a chance in competition with the aggressive forgiveness we call grace.(Romans 5: 20, The Message Bible)

Grace is not a passive thing. It isn’t waiting to be called upon and spurred into action. Grace is aggressive. That divine Love that loves and that blesses is always active, ready to save us from the belief that we can’t be saved. This grace is always more powerful that the dooming and depressing specter of sin and its punishment.

The wrong we may do is never overcome merely by being told it’s bad or that it will hurt us. A strict law for behavior enforced by a punishing sense of wrong-doing may or may stop people from doing regrettable or harmful things, but it can’t bring peace of mind, genuine repentance, and a real understanding of good and its true pleasure.

Only good, God, itself can do that. Only that grace has the real power to absolve us of not only the “sin” but the desire to sin, the justifying of it. Only grace can give us the freedom that shows us that our innocence is not lost and that we truly don’t want to lose it and really can’t. Only grace, God’s unconditional and aggressive loving-kindness, can give us a pure glimpse of the reason for the law of God, and for its protection and affection. This reforms us, forms us anew in the spirit of our true selves, obedient, good children of a loving Father-Mother-God who is pleased with us.

“God. The great I AM; the all-knowing, all-seeing, all-acting, all-wise, all-loving, and eternal; Principle; Mind; Soul; Spirit; Life; Truth; Love; all substance; intelligence.” (587:5)

This definition covers it all. It covers us all. What is left for our concern, our doubt, our fear, our caretaking and controlling? God constitutes all thinking and being and encompasses all in this thought and action. He is the substance and quality of Life and the conscious Ego Who knows all and expresses all according to His infinite wisdom, impeccable precision, and divine loving-kindness.

Because God perceives infinitely, there is nothing unknown to Him or left to another influence, another interpretation, to chance or circumstance. He is the very fabric of Life and His goodness and Truth must be found as the reason and the result of all that is. This all-loving Principle is unopposed and self-enforced. God’s awareness is clear and accurate and active.

Everything belongs to God and all is, in Truth, as it appears to Him to be. All is in accord with His vision and purpose, His active and everlasting Love. And we are within this care, not keepers of it or challenges to it. He is what is—“I AM that I AM.” There is no argument, no otherness, no occasion or need for personal interpretation or action. God is All and in All. We are at one with this confident certainty and flawless consciousness of a perfect and limitless Life. Accept this definition of God and be free.

Daily Inspiration, September 13th

“Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.” (Isaiah 45: 11)

God the Almighty requires us to get our information from Him. He is our best Advisor, having all sight and insight, all wisdom, a perfect consciousness of all that is right and real. Those things that concern us are really those things that concern Him, for our life is not separate from God, nor are we personal creators or keepers of it.

To rely on human opinions or on what the senses want to tell us is never going to get us the right answer, the honest answer that divine Truth alone can tell. We err when we chase after causes and predict effects based on human knowledge and all its inadequacies, doubts, variables, and fear. The answer from God is the answer that is infallible and that is complete and that is always harmonious and satisfying.

Listen to God’s demand. We are required to turn to Him, to ask divine Mind about our prospects, about our history, about our health, about our well-being. God, Spirit, is always open with us, feeding us with the Truth of Love and of Life as not confined to a human perspective, but rather, unconfined by divine law and the Creator’s own infinite knowledge of what He Himself has made and which He so thoroughly, enduringly loves.

“And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort…” (Luke 8: 48)

Hear this words as if they were meant just for you. Receive that rich spirit of Love that Jesus expressed when he spoke to this woman in need of healing. She had touched his garment after having suffered many years with a disturbing disease. She recognized the divine power being expressed by Jesus, and reached out to claim access to it, to feel it.

And she was rewarded by that Christ-influence. She was healed because she truly believed, and Jesus offered her those tender and powerful words that expressed the Truth of her being. She was not a woman beset with difficulties, laboring along in the press, in the multitude of material fears and predictions and expectations. She was, in fact, a “daughter.” She was, as we all are, a child, the sweet little one who needed her Father-Mother to tell her that the nightmare wasn’t real, and that a rich life was hers to experience.

“Be of good comfort.” Be assured that all is well. And, be not only comforted, but comfortable, at peace in all ways. Each of us are ready, always near the hem of the garment, and able to receive the sincere and powerful assurance that we are indeed God’s dear sons and daughters, and that comfort is not only our hope, but our permanent and natural condition.

“God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son in your hearts, crying, Abba, Father.” (Galations 4: 6)

God gave us the Christ within. He gave us the natural recognition that we are the children of God, that He is our Father and our Mother. This Christ-spirit is our nature crying out for that which will save us and bless us. It is in us always to want to go home, to be ourselves, to know the heaven of Love we were created to enjoy.

So, while we may feel that we are desperately yearning for help and salvation, it is only our true hearts being called home to grace. God is always coming to get us. The Father-Mother-Shepherd is always reclaiming us, telling us who we are and where we belong and why. The Father requires our expression of His Life. The Mother necessarily and perpetually loves.

Jesus came to show us that our power, our happiness, our healing is found in being a child in need of his divine mommy and daddy. To know that we are not in control, not responsible, not the creative powers of life and the protectors of it, is to release ourselves to the good news, to the Life that God has prepared for us. Listen to your heart and don’t be ashamed if it calls out for a divine hug. This is God’s way of keeping us near Him, near His beautiful Life, His boundless care, His perfect wisdom, and His tender and healing Love.

“It is man’s moral right to annul an unjust sentence, a sentence never inflicted by divine authority.” (Science and Health, page 381)

Don’t let yourself be thrown in a prison of sickness, fear, loss, trouble. There is a higher authority than mortal mind and its unfair and rampant sentencing. Just because the senses would try to accuse us of illness, weakness, or pain doesn’t mean we need to plead guilty. Mortal mind may be a convincing prosecutor, but its arguments are not based on the law and must fail.

We have a moral right to, at any time, annul that sentence against us. We are allowed to negate that unkind decision and agree to be set free. Material laws are random and without Principle. They aren’t solid truth because they are based on premises that are variable, erratic, fallible.

Divine authority governs all. It is the law of Love, of Spirit, and of Truth. God’s law is as omnipotent as He is, and it is enforced by its truthfulness. We can and must utilize this law on our own behalf. We must refuse to be sentenced by mortal opinions or even by the testimony of the senses, by mindless matter. We have an immediate defense. God’s Truth of our own identity is unquestionable. It stands forever that we were born free and so remain free. Our freedom has no conditions on it except that we claim it and live it, fully and gratefully.

“In the multitude of my thoughts within me thy comforts delight my soul.” (Psalms 94: 19)

No matter how frenzied and out of control our thoughts seem to be, we have a place to rest. Even when it seems we can’t shut off the ruminating, the analyzing, the predictions and the conversations, we are ready to be comforted. God’s voice of Truth is at hand and powerful to silence all the noise.

His Words are simple and sweet. They are the uncomplicated sounds of reason, of harmony, and of love. His comforts are the language of true Love, the assurance of a Father-Mother even while we are in the throes of our childish fits of complaint and self-centeredness. We will not find those comforts by playing out a human scenario in our heads. We will find those comforts by listening to that resonant reasonableness written in our hearts, to that clear truth that God put there.

The confusion and uncertainty, even the sense of being overwhelmed by good things, can settle into the comforting realization that all things belong to God. He has every detail in His care. He unfolds according to wisdom and kindness. We can await each moment’s revelation without the need to think it into life. God’s comforts are with us because they are Truth, and the Truth is true everywhere–indisputable and solid and easy and peaceful and right.

Daily Inspiration, August 28th

“Be not afraid, only believe.” (Mark 5: 36)

The productive way to spend our time and to occupy thought is not with worry and fear. This state of mind is never going to get us answers or clarity or peace. Fear is not safety, but danger in that it keeps thought dwelling on trouble, the lying suggestions of error, and that noise can drown out that sweet and tender and healing voice of Truth ready to save us.

Jesus reminded those who yearned for healing to “only believe.” He not only encouraged this trusting state of mind, he stressed the simplicity of it. “Only believe.” Just do it. Our worry-free release to faith in good is not a stretch or a big demand. It need not be accompanied by a lot of discussion, analysis, or justification. It is a natural surrender to peace.

Don’t fear. Believe. Do what you really want to do anyway—expect and accept goodness, the light, the Truth, a healing wash of Love’s answers of peace to the mind and to the body. Worry never got anyone into heaven, harmony. Fear isn’t a productive motivator because the shaky thought makes for shaky, unstable solutions. We can claim that peace that simply, naturally trusts, that abides in a hope and that expects good. That calm faith is never far from us and its acceptance dissolves fear and shows us our ready and plentiful blessings.

Daily Inspiration, August 23rd

“Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.” (Romans 14:13)

Our loving regard for another is essential to living our own good life. We can’t be active followers of the Christ-Truth and still find justification to hinder another’s advancement in the way God appoints for him. Each one is worthy in God’s eyes; each is worthy to know Life as it truly is—flourishing, good, full of love.

Let’s be careful not to put a stumbling-block in another’s way in our thought as well as literally setting up obstructions. Do we limit another’s capacity to succeed when we think of them? Do we see them as just waiting for the karma of their bad choices to come and get them? Do we, in fact, hope they get what they deserve or just expect very little of them?

That thought is unfair not only to this child of God; it is also unfair to the one thinking the thoughts. We deserve an expansive and loving thought, for in this thinking is our freedom and joy. Resentments of others, envy, a feeling of revenge or of self-justification, necessarily limits our own attitude and potential. We’ve decided for a life that has partiality and favoritism, rather than the life that is Love’s intention for us. A greater, righter Life is ours—one that belongs just to us, and each individual has his own customized good as well. Each has a right to know this goodness and to recognize and rejoice that there are no losers in Love.

Daily Inspiration, August 21st

“Carnal beliefs…make man an involuntary hypocrite,–producing evil when he would create good, forming deformity when he would outline grace and beauty, injuring those whom he would bless.” (Science and Health, page 263)

The mortal mind, that negative mind that draws on mere appearances and limits, is not our friend. Its carnal beliefs, locked into personal perceptions based in physical sense testimony and matter as cause and effect, will make us into hypocrites.

Following this mind’s encouragement, we will unknowingly be entirely untrue to ourselves. We will be what we are not—limited, weary, weak, fearful, ashamed, uncomfortable, unhappy. The carnal mind talks us into what goes against our true nature, and we are unwitting hypocrites, presenting some false picture to ourselves and the world that isn’t us at all.

The immortal Mind, on the other hand, will lead us into Truth, into a natural sense of being just who we were made to be, full of promise and goodness and joy. Relying on the spiritual senses and God’s word about His flawless creation—you and me—we are able to recognize ourselves and be honest with ourselves and to the world. We are no longer merely playing the part of a limited mortal, but being our true selves—graceful, beautiful, full of life, goodness, and joy.
