“See that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently.” (I Peter 1: 22)

If we are to live in line with that Christ-Truth that is healing and good and productive and peaceful, we must be all about loving. To love is essential to feeling right in our lives and to giving and receiving blessings that truly save and satisfy.

But how do we love? This admonition from Peter is pretty clear: See that we love one another. This we must do. And we must do it with a pure heart, for one. Love can’t be full of false motives or about selfish or material desires. This love must be pure, genuine. It must be that peaceful reflection of power that is God, and therefore is not burdened with need or qualification or exception. It simply loves because love is good and right and natural.

And secondly, we must do this pure loving fervently. This means we can’t be lazy or apathetic about it. We can’t be forgetful in loving or do it half-heartedly. We must love fervently—having or showing great warmth or intensity of spirit, feeling, and enthusiasm. We can’t be lukewarm about this, because our love for each other is really about our love for God—that reflected Love that is our very being and is always on fire with goodness and gratitude and power and life.

We were made to do this. We have been given a heart that knows how to love and a spirit that is able to do so freely and fully. This is not a job. It is a joy!

“In the multitude of my [anxious] thoughts within me, Your comforts cheer and delight my soul!” (Psalms 94:19, Amplified Bible)

It may seem at times like we have a crowd of fears and worries just battering around in our thinking. Sometimes these mesmerizing thoughts seem out of control and insurmountable. We feel caged in, companioned with a slew of wild beasts from which we can’t escape.

But there is God right there. God’s presence and His peace are forever at hand. They are ready to comfort and cheer and delight our soul, as the inspired psalmist knew. This poet was aware that material sense and circumstance would pummel our natural peace and cause us to feel out of control—controlled by anxiety, rather than reason, trust, God.

But he did what we can do as well. He remembered God. He praised God’s presence rather than admitting to His absence, that which was really impossible. Those anxious thoughts are a mortal, messy, mass of junk. They can be put out quickly by turning away from them, seeking refreshment and cleansing. God’s comforts cheer us, bring us peace, and reveal reality, harmony. These pure ideas give us the clarity that reveals a multitude of angels right where those devilish beliefs had us in their thrall.

Give up those anxious thoughts that will never heal and let God’s comforts cheer, delight, and restore your naturally peaceful soul!

“And when Jesus rose up from prayer, and was come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow, And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.” (Luke 22: 45-46)

The disciples had succumbed not only to weariness, but to the sleep of sorrow, lulled into a belief that all was lost and there was not much they could do about it. Jesus knew better than any that the authorities were pursuing him and that their desire was his crucifixion. But what did he do?

Jesus took this time to pray. If anything, he became more alert and awake to God, to Life and Truth and Love. He drew close to His Father-Mother-Life, his saving strength, and was able to be clear and conscious in Truth, not foggy and sleepy with darkness and apathy. His time in Gethsemane was not used as a mournful occasion or one in which to give up and nod off. It was a time to unite with the divine Life, to be alert to the lies that included a sense of doom or victimization, and to overcome them through the Love of God.

Jesus seemed surprised that his apostles were sleeping. He surely had taught them that in any situation, prayer was most needed. They needed to watch, not with terror or paranoia, but with God, with that heightened enlightened perspective that didn’t dwell on the dream of death, but on the glory of the resurrection.

Let’s find our true peace and rest through consecrated prayer, and know that real and renewing sense of life that Jesus taught and proved.

“And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all. Neither was there any among them that lacked: (Acts 4: 33-34 to 🙂

The apostles witnessed the resurrection, the demonstration of immortal Life, and they continued to demonstrate this divine Principle through their healing works. That joyous Truth could not be contained and it came with great power. These earnest followers of Christ were able to share the good news Jesus came proclaiming through wonderful works of their own.

They lived lives full of grace, full of that great gift of Love that attended them through all that they did, giving them confidence, poise, inspiration, and power to prove. Their thoughts were resurrected, lifted above the troubled material and finite condition, to the divine possibilities, the real outlook of infinite Life and Love.

And this Truth sustained them. They were unified in their love of God and of the Christ-message and they all were all equally provided for. Each gave to their great cause and at the same time received the blessings of it, the supply for their needs and the mutual support in their work.

We can join these apostles and claim this resurrected, uplifted perspective. We can prove this joyous good news in our loving lives and feel the abundance of good that must naturally flow to each and every one of us.

Daily Inspiration, March 17th

“Jesus told him, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the greatest and most important commandment. The second is exactly like it: ‘You must love your neighbor as yourself.’” (Matthew 22: 37-39, International Standard Version Bible)

Loving God is primary. This means a conscious devotion to good, an awareness of the One Mind as supreme, not many minds (including our own) as having power and control. Jesus didn’t give this commandment as a call to do something either unnatural or difficult. Loving God is what we were made to do, and this love is our protection and peace. It’s being true to oneself.

And the second commandment is “exactly like it.” To love your neighbor as yourself is the same as the first commandment. It requires our devotion and it is the most natural expression of our love for God and His love for us. It is a must and not something we can get out of or do only some of the time. Our love for others is a requisite if we truly love God.

God is found in His ideas. To love God necessarily means to love that which expresses Him. This means loving others as the children of God they are, and loving oneself as well. Jesus did not equivocate. He was clear on the vital importance of these commandments. They would gain one access to heaven, to the peace and joy and dominion that is ours to experience here and now.

These commandments are not mere wishes for us to be better humans. They are God’s laws, the inherent principles that underlie our lives and which reveal to humanity the divine reality that Life, in fact, is Love.

“God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.” (Psalms 46: 5)

God is already where we are. His presence is ready to save and bless. There is no distance to separate us from God, from divine Love. There is no time to stand in the way of our ready salvation, comfort, peace, healing.

God is in the midst of us. Perfect good, Life, Love, Truth, dwells right where we are, nearer than the air we breathe or the next step we take. We don’t need to run to find God, or strive to know His grace. God is already with us, so we can be still and know this. We can gratefully realize that God is bigger than the roaring senses and the limits that material law, so-called, would attempt to set up as obstacles.

God is in the midst of her—in the midst of our consciousness, within our hearts, and at the center of our lives. Infinite good is both the cause and the effect, at all times and now. God’s action is the only action, for He is the only Life, Spirit, and Mind.

Remember that your help is always at hand, and it is powerful, perfect, saving Love.

“Perfect and infinite Mind enthroned is heaven.” (Science and Health, page 266)

Heaven is not about gaining a perfect material life. It is not about passing into a new sphere of experience, above this human life. Heaven is not a pipe dream or a hereafter hope.

Heaven is in letting God be God. It is enthroning—granting sovereign power—to perfect and infinite Mind. It is exalting God and His wisdom over all, and recognizing the authority of this flawless and loving Mind over every aspect of our lives. To name God as the sole authority and final word for us, we settle into our heavenly citizenship.

To do this and to claim that sweet release to God, to peace, to joy, to freedom, we must give up our worship of other powers. We have to kick material belief off the pedestal of our devotion, taking its little minion, fear, along with it. Heaven is already ours to experience when we let that divine Mind take its rightful place as the head of our lives, the wise and wonderful ruler over our hearts and our thoughts.

As Jesus reminded us, heaven isn’t here or there. It is right where we are, within consciousness, within our hearts. This holy peace is ready here and now for our acceptance, for our willing release to the heavenly law of Love.

Daily Inspiration, March 5th

“Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. But rejoice inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.” (I Peter 4: 12-13, New International Version)

Don’t freak out! Keep calm and trust your vision, your goodness, your God. When we are claiming this Truth of Love we may be confronted with opposition, just as Jesus was. We may stir things up a bit and it may feel like we ourselves are being punished, persecuted, tested.

But you are safe. The outrage of error is not a real power, enemy, presence. It is the resistance to your good, but it comes with a lot of pretense and nothing behind it. Don’t get fascinated or perplexed when things seem challenging. You are not doing anything wrong and you are not in danger. You are being given a blessed opportunity to stay true to Truth, to trust Love, and to put into practice the very Christ-ideal that seems to be opposed.

Know that you are bound for glory. Know that what Jesus proved of everlasting Life, of triumph over all error, is your destiny, so to speak, as well. Rejoice that you are being given the opportunity to lean more on this sweet Truth of Love and that the phantoms of fear and the devilish beliefs that breathe fire on your peace, can do nothing to your victory. Your goodness may make you a target, but this very God-quality is also your protection, your inspiration, your power, and your peace.

Daily Inspiration, March 3rd

“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.” (Psalms 37: 23)

Be good. Be yourself. Obey the voice that speaks to your heart, lovingly yet firmly guiding you. Our true self isn’t pushed by human will and effort or fraught with arguments and opinions. We are at one with God’s conscious Mind, responsive to the right way, the natural way, the satisfying way, the fruitful way. Yield to this guidance willingly and gratefully.

When we know good and claim it as our being and purpose, each step of our way and each hour of our day is perfectly in sync with what is good for us and for all. As we let go of fear and false pride and the limits that human opinions might dictate, we can hear God’s intention. We can stay in step with God and in accord with our own real nature, pure goodness and love.

And when we listen and follow in this way, we gain God’s delight. He loves us always, but He surely beams with approval when we are radiating His glorious purpose, walking with Him and not out on our egotistical own. And this delight is also our own joy. For God’s pleasure is expressed in our own blessed awareness that we are right on track and that each step is graceful, beautiful, freeing, and progressive.

Daily Inspiration, February 26th

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.” (Ephesians 6: 12-13)

Put on your spiritual armor. Be prepared to overcome all that would try to take you down or make you afraid. Stand at the ready to claim a decisive victory over any evil that would appear in your life or that would appear in your world.

We must make sure our defense is of the right kind. We can’t claim victory at sea if we are still hanging out in the trenches on land. We have to go where the action is with the appropriate equipment. The enemy is not person or matter or circumstance. The fight is not a physical one, but a spiritual one.

So it is a mental battle. It must start with defending our thought. We do this by putting on that armor of right ideas that God is faithfully providing, the Truth of His ever-presence and all-power. We can then, right where we are, take the proper offensive, utilizing the might of God’s Mind, His confidence, and the peace that we must always find in honoring the authority of His Love.

Fight the so-called enemy on the right terms. Begin with those saving ideas that God is giving you. Trust them, utilize them, and let God continue to restock your arsenal until you know and feel your rightful, grateful peace.
