“The night is about over, dawn is about to break. Be up and awake to what God is doing!” (Romans 13: 12, the Message)
It sure can feel like a long night sometimes. We may seem to be in a dark place ourselves or feel like the world is full of discord and gloom.
But the morning is at hand. The light is always here, for that light is God, and we can be ready to see it, feel it, warm and bright upon our upturned faces. The dawn always comes. It’s inevitable. Let’s not sleep through it or be so confined in our own little cells of fear, bundled in shrouds, that we aren’t alert to the goodness, the healing, the joy, the inspiration, the pure love that is active and present.
God’s glory can’t be hidden. His qualities of goodness, Life, Truth, and Love must be revealed. Nothing but fear and anger, a mesmerized state of consciousness, can keep us from bearing grateful witness to the good that not only will go on, but that is already going on.
Let’s not get lulled into despair. Let’s not be so transfixed by the senses, by the beliefs of time and limitation, that we don’t behold the riches and colors of God’s creation, ready to be seen and accepted. Let’s not wait for some alarm clock to tell us when it’s okay to get up, to come out. Let’s be at the ready now, even in the dark, to see the glorious sunrise wake the world.
