“Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.” (Luke 23: 34)

Forgiveness. It is the most divine expression of love.

Jesus’ conscious connection to God, to Love itself, gave him the beautiful ability to naturally forgive others, even those that were responsible for his crucifixion. God’s love was to Jesus so much greater than human mistakes, ignorance, and fear. God’s justice was much more healing and triumphant than anger, blame, and revenge.

We can learn so much from this timeless statement from the Master. Jesus asked God to do the forgiving, knowing that divine Love could see past the conflict and anguish of what was going on, to the true children of God He made. The human emotions and reactions that drove these men to these actions, were not their true essence. They were misled by fear and ambition. The story of glory and goodness that Jesus preached and lived may have felt to them just too good to be true.

We, too, can look to God to forgive others, to forgive ourselves, for being those children who are still learning, who are led to do things that may feel wrong or hurtful. We can let divine Love feed us with that true feeling of God’s justice that isn’t about feeling personally justified, feeling another has suffered enough. Instead, it is about an awakening anew by all to the joy and peace, the perfect resolution, of being touched and healed by Love.
