“The Lord on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.” (Psalms 93: 4)

We may feel that we are swimming in unsafe waters. It may seem that our own troubles and the world’s challenges are overwhelming us and we are barely able to keep afloat.

But let’s remember that no matter how aggressive human life may appear to be; no matter how much the senses present noise and bluster, fury and fear, we have a sure rescue, a safe harbor.

God is not taken in by the mesmerizing waves of conflict and confusion. God’s might— the power of infinite Life and Truth and Love—does not flinch at the commotion that we may feel is overtaking us and others. The Almighty remains confidently what He is—almighty! That is, the one and only power, presence, government, authority, and reality.

Let’s calm down. Let’s recognize that God’s control is greater than the storms we may feel swept away in or transfixed by. All creation—all that is made and all that is going on—belongs to God. He preserves us and all according to His loving wisdom.

We can stop getting taken in by the waves and remember that God is on high, and so are we. We are safe in His care, above the raging waters, and able to see beyond the tempest to the dawn of peace, the rising light of Love.
