“When a man’s ways please the Lord, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” (Proverbs 16: 7)

It isn’t about convincing the other guy to come around, or even about fighting with our personal demons. This proverb reminds us that true peace is found as we do what is right and good.

As we stay true to God’s qualities and intention to the best of our ability, we come to feel a sense of well-being. And this harmonizing with God in thought and deed reveals healing in our lives. Our “enemies” are lost altogether as Love takes over. We feel in tune with God’s purpose and see our experiences coming into agreement with His goodness.

We can pray for insights and listen for God’s guidance moment by moment. We can stop looking to change another person or make them like us, agree with us, validate us, love us. Instead, we can turn to God and be the man or woman that He would have us be—full of gratitude, poise, trust, respect, grace. In this way, we discover a true peace within and with one another as well.
