“Give me understanding [a teachable heart and the ability to learn], that I may keep Your law; And observe it with all my heart.” (Psalms 119: 34, Amplified Bible)

We may think that following the right way, keeping in step with God’s intention, is difficult to do. We may feel we don’t have the clarity or the discipline to be and do good, to advance spiritually, to grasp what we need to know.

But as we honestly yearn for it, we can gain a teachable heart. In fact, this ability to learn and to receive God’s Truth is already in us. This receptive heart is that child within us who is ready to listen and to trust. We can choose to set aside the willfulness that would limit our own capacities, label us as “too this” or “too that” to learn and to succeed in the way that God would have us do.

We can pray and expect an awakening to our own keen understanding of God, of Life, and of Love. We can remember that to know and follow God is to experience Life at its best—peaceful, harmonious, purposeful, blessed. And God’s kind instruction is at hand, ready to show us the glories of His law so we can obey with eagerness and gratitude.
