“Even though our inner thoughts may condemn us with storms of guilt and constant reminders of our failures, we can know in our hearts that in His presence God Himself is greater than any accusation. He knows all things.” (I John 3: 20, the Voice Translation)
We may feel we know ourselves well. We know our shame and mistakes, bad thoughts and intentions. We all can tend to ruminate at times over our inadequacies, stirring up storms of guilt and condemnation within us.
It’s easy to believe we are wise in our assessments, that we know what we know. But our negative human judgment of self is not greater than God’s presence and Love. God knows us truly and through and through. He sees into our hearts, and we can trust Him to remind us of our true goodness, and to cleanse us of our errors and of those beliefs of unworthiness.
All the accusations we may lay on ourselves are powerless to change what God knows. We are protected by His true view, God’s perspective of us that sees our fears and doubts and reveals that we are not miserable sinners, but His own beloved children. We can do our best to stop mentally punishing ourselves, and to listen to and receive God’s Truth—His honest and loving and saving grace.
