“In everything you do, put God first, and he will direct you and crown your efforts with success.” (Proverbs 3: 6, the Living Bible)

We may feel that the only way to get ahead in our lives is to put ourselves first, to look out for number one. Or, conversely, we may always put ourselves last, placing others and their needs ahead of our own.

But neither approach brings true success. It is by putting God first that we truly thrive. As we let go of ego, our own or that of others; as we release the responsibility for our own well-being and a desire to prove our value to others; as we just let God be God, we find our true way. We discover that by trusting God, good, divine Love and being obedient to His design, we accomplish what is right, meaningful, and really satisfying.

And this verse reminds us to put God first in all that we do. So, this means that any time we are tempted to put fear first, or put another’s approval first, or put human opinions first—in the big or small details of life—we ought to wake up to this. We can realize that there is no power in those things. They aren’t a premise that can help us or progress us.

But God can do this. He is the Origin and Source. Let’s put Him first and see His very good creation revealed in our lives each day.
