“Here is one thing that would complete my joy—come together as one in mind and spirit and purpose, sharing in the same love.” (Philippians 2: 2, the Voice Translation)
Come together, right now! It’s a lyric from a Beatles’ song, and a good rousing cry for us today.
A completeness of joy, a sense of peace and satisfaction, can be seen and felt as we resolve to come together. We can do our best to find unity with others in our homes, our communities, and our world at large. It begins with one’s thoughts and it ends with a sharing of love.
This “same love” that the verse speaks about is that Love of God. So, our unified purpose, and the peace and progress that comes of it, is not based on how much liking we can dredge up for one another. It is about realizing the presence and rightness of God’s Love. It is about allowing ourselves to feel that Love and its assurance, freeing us from fear and judgment, the ignorance that makes it difficult to “come together.”
We won’t always agree with everyone, nor should we be about changing people to make them more like us. But we can do our best to align with the true, active, healing Spirit of goodness by watching our own thoughts, being willing to let go of the divisive and judgmental and to welcome in the inclusive, the unifying, the peaceful, the kind—to come together and rejoice in our true purpose of Love!
