“Think of the kindness you wish others would show you; do the same for them.” (Luke 6: 31, The Voice Translation)
Kindness is a powerful thing. A tender and genuine act of goodness toward another is precious and so needed. The world is blessed when we practice this advice, and doing so is a gift to oneself as well.
Think about it. Consciously ponder what you would wish another might do for you to bring you comfort and peace. Then, do that for another. The benefits of this activity are two-fold. You will give a gift of compassion to someone else. At the same time, you will gain a sense within yourself of what kindness looks and feels like, and how true it is to your nature—how wonderfully satisfying and right.
Likewise, show kindness to yourself in the measure that you might be so willing, lovingly, to give it to another. Treat yourself with the same grace and goodness, mercy and benevolent attitude, that you would another who you perceive may be in need of it. Be kind to yourself and to all.
And in this, be sincere. Let your heart find that joy in being charitable and helpful, and let it lead you in your kind thoughts and acts going forward. This is the Golden Rule. It is true riches, a jewel to cherish and to follow faithfully and gratefully!
