Daily Inspiration, November 19th

“For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” (Psalms 84: 10)

A moment with God is full of goodness and satisfaction. Approaching our lives and our work with devotion to God’s purpose, recognition of His control, and an eagerness to obey His ideal, we are always making a favorable choice. It is richly rewarding to feel God’s intention in what we are and what we do. It is satisfying to Him and to us.

The “house of God” is the consciousness of goodness, Truth, and Love. We enter in by our devotion to Him, and therein we have the affection and protection that He bestows on those who are willing to listen and follow. This is a willingness to please God rather than dwelling in “the tents of wickedness”—those temporary, unstable places that are devoted to fleeting material pleasures, accumulating material status and possessions, and the pride that leads to willfulness. Instead, an open, humble, and willing state of mind is able to hear and heed the clear and sweet guidance and feel secure, safe, and content.

A day with God is worth more than a lifetime. It is never wasted time but an eternity realized in a moment and which goes on to bless us as we move forward. Our work, our lives devoted to pleasing God–whatever that means in each new moment–is the best job in the world. It means that we are in harmony with Him, with His abundant qualities of Love, goodness, joy, freedom, productivity, and peace.
