“Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” (Matthew 11: 29-30, Message Bible)

Wouldn’t we all love to learn the unforced rhythms of grace? How much more pleasant our lives would be if we were to follow the directions of this healing verse.

And we have here both the instructions and the benefits. As we walk with the Christ, using Jesus as our model and God’s Love as our motive as well, we feel a sense of both progress and peacefulness. Jesus showed us the way through his kindness, his humility, his intention for good. And he showed us how to trust.

For as Jesus relied on his Father for all things—frequently reminding his followers that he could do nothing of himself—so can we do the same. And we have extra help! Because we have this very Christ-Truth to lean on. We have Jesus’s example of the power of humble trust. And we have the Truth remaining ever with us, that abiding awareness that we are one with God and that He loves us without limits, and always.

Let’s keep company with this healing consciousness. Let’s take each step with God and realize how natural this rhythm of life is to us. It is productive and has an impact, and yet there is no weighty burden in it. It is not ill-fitting. It is just us being who we were made to be and living freely and lightly, gracefully and gratefully, in our daily walk with Love.

“We should become more familiar with good than with evil, and guard against false beliefs as watchfully as we bar our doors against the approach of thieves and murderers.” (Science and Health, page 234)

Our consciousness is precious. It is where our treasures are contained and where all our good experiences begin.

It truly behooves us to protect our thinking and to plant and nurture seeds of goodness there. We can be alert and recognize that when we are ruminating on trouble, thinking critically about others or ourselves, dwelling in fear or in anger, we have made our home, our dwelling place, something unkind and uncomfortable. This isn’t a place where we can flourish or find peace.

Let’s realize that the dark images of evil and danger, of disease and demise, may knock at our door, but we don’t have to let them in. While being careful and thoughtful about things can be good, to spend our time with the criminal beliefs that can rough up our house, our serenity and poise and clarity, is not wisdom. We are better occupied by actively, intentionally, becoming more acquainted with good, with that which is powerful, healing, and true.

This is being watchful with God, with Love, with intelligence. It is not living in paranoia, but instead being ready to invite in beauty, joy, light, and vibrant life!

“…I am with you every day, even unto the end of time.” (Matthew 28: 20, Aramaic Bible in Plain English)

Jesus uttered this comforting promise to his apostles after his resurrection. While his physical appearance with them would end, his spiritual presence would remain.

This Christ, the living Truth of God and man, could not be killed. It was the everlasting, vital state of being which Jesus demonstrated through his life, his teaching, and his healing. This Truth had been revealed and it could never be hidden again.

I love that this timeless, ageless assurance is meant for all of us. This Comforter, the Christ-reality, walks with us each and every day. We take no step that we don’t have immediate access to this guidance, this wisdom, this inspiration from above, coming to us just as we need it in a way that we can appreciate.

Let’s remember and rejoice that the resurrection proved that no material sense of limits—time, space, physicality—can keep God, good, Truth, from its saving activity. The heaven of the Christ’s gentle and powerful presence is with us here and now, every moment, day and night, until the end of time.

“…your joy no man taketh from you.” (John 16: 22)

We have a right to joy. In fact, this true happiness is a built-in aspect of our being. It is a quality that is inherent in us and which has its Source in God, the Infinite One.

Jesus knew this. He was assuring his disciples that while they might feel confronted with fear and trouble, confusion and doubt, their joy could not be lost. No person, by his behavior towards us or by his beliefs about us, can rob us of that inner consciousness of divine peace and satisfaction, that uplifted awareness of true life and light.

We can choose to give up our joy because of others or by our own depressing thoughts towards ourselves. But this joy, your joy, is ever available for God is always with you. His Love and His cheer, His Truth that reveals reality, is yours forever.

We always have access to this happiness. It isn’t contingent on people and things, circumstances or even our own personal efforts at optimism. This joy is God’s precious affection pouring in, His smile that is always upon us, calling us to laugh, to be glad, to awaken to our true lovely, lovable, and joy-filled selves today!

“…do everything you can to present yourself to God as a man who is fully genuine, a worker unashamed of your mission, a guide capable of leading others along the correct path defined by the word of truth.” (II Timothy 2: 15, Voice Translation)

You are a leader. Don’t think otherwise. As you’ve been awakened to God’s goodness, His Truth, His healing Word to you, this makes you a vital force in the world.

God has endowed you with His qualities and the awareness of them. Don’t be shy about utilizing your gifts—His gifts to you—by helping others, leading with words and deeds. And let go of any reason to hide or be ashamed because you are a believer in Truth. It is an honor to have a mission with the purpose that is truly and always Love.

Take hold of your divine purpose, without apology, limiting conditions, or justifications. Do everything you can to be true to that inherent calling. For to live as God’s own representative is not to be arrogant or judgmental or full of pride and human intellectualism. It is to be fully genuine. It is to be sincere. It is to humbly recognize that the very Source of all that we are and all that we do, is God. His wisdom shines through us and His mission is one that He has given us, along with all that is needed to humbly, gratefully, capably carry it out.

“Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.” (Matthew 6: 33, Message Bible)

What would it feel like to heed this inspired advice? What a glorious feeling to truly immerse ourselves in the divine! How healing it would be to allow ourselves to linger there and to let God’s goodness cleanse, purify, saturate our thought and infuse our lives!

We can make a conscious choice to let the worries go. We can relinquish that sense we will miss out on something good, or not get everything “necessary” accomplished, or that we will disappoint someone. Steeping ourselves in the reality of God and His provision and purpose isn’t putting our heads in the sand. Rather, it lifts our perspective above the confusion and concern and shows us Truth.

That basking in God’s reality refreshes us, provides us with clarity, inspiration, and guidance. And when we do this, we find that our practical needs are met. God is caring for us always, and His control and abundance are present and active. As we focus on God and not on limits, ego, and matter, we see His limitless goodness, wisdom, and Love right where we are, in just the right way to save and to satisfy.

“God expresses in man the infinite idea forever developing itself, broadening and rising higher and higher from a boundless basis.” (Science and Health, page 258)

Let’s take the limits off ourselves and off of God! The Creator and Source of all is infinite. Spirit has no end and there are no material conditions on its expression. God’s nature simply continues to flow forth, without pause or decline. He is always radiating His Life and Love, His Truth and power. We are the evidence of this endless gloriousness.

Let’s realize who we are and what that means for our lives. For God is filling all space and all time with His qualities, and we are constantly becoming acquainted with what this means. We are ideas who are developing, in that we are expanding in understanding, in wisdom, in clarity. This development goes on eternally, for God never ceases to have colors to be seen and aspects of His goodness to be experienced.

We are forever ascending, gaining an enlightened and heightened view of God and of His idea, the man and woman that He created. So, let’s stop seeing ourselves as waning in life, energy, prospects. Let’s instead insist on knowing ourselves truly and being ready for what’s new and next, vital and progressive!

“God has given us his Spirit. That’s why we don’t think the same way that the people of this world think. That’s also why we can recognize the blessings that God has given us.” (I Corinthians 2: 12, Contemporary English Version)

We can go along and listen to the world and so feel pressed to change our approach to things, even our own inner convictions, based on what we see going on around us. We can follow the material experience, with its motives based on fear and lack and self-preservation.

But God had given us a higher perception, a better vision, a clearer way to think and to be. His own Spirit is within us, and this gives us more than physical sight. It provides insight, inspiration, and wisdom. It is that voice of Truth that God built into us and it is what sets us free.

This true awareness is our liberation from buying what the world is selling. It is being awake to what is truly going on, to God’s creation, to His overflowing blessings, and to the unity of Love that binds us all together in one grand glory. God’s Spirit, that spiritual sense, defies the limited material senses by its limitless perspective.

You may feel like you don’t fit into the world, but you do fit into God’s design and it is a blessed one, wherein we also naturally bring blessings, healing, goodness to a world that is ready to awake and to see what we see as well!

“…the wisdom that comes from above leads us to be pure, friendly, gentle, sensible, kind, helpful, genuine, and sincere. When peacemakers plant seeds of peace, they will harvest justice.” (James 3: 17-18, Contemporary English Version)

If we are to truly be peacemakers, not merely those seeking comfortable lives for ourselves, then we can’t go it alone. To be active participants in the world in a way that is healing and progressive and good, we must rely on something greater than our own ingenuity, wits, and will.

We need to listen for God’s wisdom. We must open our hearts, ready to receive the guidance that divine Love reveals to us. This true intelligence is not only smart thinking. It is power, for it proceeds from Love, from Truth, from the very Source of Life. This higher wisdom leads us to be our best, to be who we truly are, and this has a harmonizing influence in our world.

Purity, friendliness, gentleness, sincerity, helpfulness, etc., are qualities that come from an honest desire and from selflessness. When we come with God’s intention, rather than personal goals and fears and biases, the work we do plants seeds that can grow, that can bring out not only a better experience for ourselves, but a foundation of justice and peace for our world as well.

“At the very moment I called out to you, you answered me! You strengthened me deep within my soul and breathed fresh courage into me.” (Psalms 138: 3, the Passion Translation)

God’s responses are quick, but never cursory or shallow. Our earnest and receptive pleas to our Father-Mother are met with answers that are assuring and guiding. And they are deep. They feed our hearts within. They regenerate us.

We can listen not only with our ears and our minds, but with our souls, as the psalmist did. We can lean into God with an expectation of grace. That “fresh courage” is found as we allow it in, as we willingly give up the need to do it ourselves, to repair problems, to resolve everything, to control.

And so, we gain in this release of human power, divine strength. This true energy is not some willful pushing or mere bravado in the face of danger. It is, instead, a real feeling of confidence. We have heard and felt God’s presence, His clarity and generosity, and we know this means safety, wisdom, freedom, power, and grateful joy.
