“Whenever you cross my mind, I thank my God for you and for the gift of knowing you.” (Philippians 1: 3, the Voice Translation)

Paul’s words here are sincere and beautiful. He was not only being kind, but also doing something very powerful.

This grateful recognition of individuals in his life was a spiritual blessing for them and resonated faithfully with his own mission of Love, of sharing the Christ with the world. His thoughts here can be a lesson and guidance for us all.

Let’s pause and really see others as they are—gifts from God, having a very special significance in our lives and in the world. God made each of us, and we are uniquely wonderful. To see someone as they are and to cherish them, is a healing practice. It aligns us with God, with His loving intention in creating each of us, and reveals the reality of harmony.

Can we try this? When a family member, friend, workmate, or even acquaintance comes to mind, can we thank God for the gift of knowing them? Can we actively be thankful that God’s idea has been brought into our sphere, touched our moments, and given us a singular and precious gift?

I love the idea of thinking of individuals this way, allowing my thoughts to be productive through the spiritual power of appreciation, recognition, and love.

“For I see your face as one sees the face of God.” (Genesis 33: 10, New Life Version)

Two brothers, Jacob and Esau, were estranged for years, bitterness and anger keeping them far apart. Jacob had an awakening and was led to go back home and to see his brother. He was afraid, fully expecting violence and hatred.

But Esau must have had an awakening as well, for when he saw Jacob from afar, he ran to him and embraced him. Jacob was full of gratitude and joy. This love, this forgiving, cherishing, gracious affection from Esau, was like seeing the face of God. It was knowing the true peace that comes of unconditional acceptance, mercy, and comfort.

What would it feel like if we could be seen that way? Well, it may begin with seeing others in that light. We can recognize that our wise and wonderful God perfectly and intentionally designed each individual who we look upon. And let’s remember that the deep love and understanding we may seek, is already in the face of God, looking at us, seeing who we truly are and not what our past behaviors may have presented.

Let’s rejoice that God is in His ideas, you and all. His divine countenance is full of grace and acceptance. He sees us truly and embraces us fully and without reservation. This love is ours. Receive it completely and reflect it naturally, looking into the face of our brothers and sisters and seeing the face of God, of pure Love.

“He is the embodiment of our peace, sent once and for all to take down the great barrier of hatred and hostility that has divided us so that we can be one.” (Ephesians 2: 14, the Voice Translation)

Jesus was living proof, stunning and enduring evidence, of the unifying power of Love. He brought the Christ-message to earth through his teaching, healing work, and his glorious resurrection.

And so, he embodies our peace. He told us the Truth and urged us to believe it, love it, live it. This Christ revealed that there is no separation between us and our Father-Mother. We are always at one with divine Life and Love, the children and expressions of God’s own goodness and purpose.

And we are all united in this reality. The distinctions of personality, of race, of differing beliefs, are irrelevant in this Truth. God is Love, as Jesus and his followers taught us, and so Love is our Cause and our character. It is what we are meant to live and to be. This Truth takes down the imaginary yet mesmerizing walls of hatred and anger, and reveals harmony, understanding, and the freedom of peace.

“For God alone my soul waits in silence and quietly submits to Him, For my hope is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; My fortress and my defense, I will not be shaken or discouraged.” (Psalms 62:5-6, Amplified Bible)

Waiting in silence may seem like a struggle when we are feeling shaken or discouraged. It may seem like we need to do something, say something—scream, cry, blame, go on the defensive, or withdraw into self-pity and fear.

But our soul is ready to submit to the healing presence. Your deepest heart, the true you, yearns to release the troubles and agitation, and to allow God to show His plan, to demonstrate His Love. Right where you are. In the silence.

We can be still and ready. We can let that quietness with God be a rock of steadiness to stand upon and a blanket of comfort to nestle into. God has the answers that our human mind can’t figure out and that the advice of others can’t truly supply.

Our reliable hope is in God, and as we let ourselves quietly and humbly submit to His kindness, wisdom, and protection, we feel encouraged, strengthened, peaceful, and safe.

“Let the good news, the story you have heard from the beginning of your journey, live in and take hold of you. If that happens and you focus on the good news, then you will always remain in a relationship with the Son and the Father. This is what He promised us: eternal life.” (I John 2: 24-25, the Voice Translation)

The good news is not just any story. It’s your story. It’s the Truth that has been revealed for your life, today and going forward.

This journey is one that begins with an awakening. When we come to see that life is not about material time and sense and circumstance, but about spiritual reality, we live a more refreshed, invigorating, and productive life. Our walk is one that is accompanied by purpose, and joy, and expectation.

Don’t let that Truth of your being as God’s own child be lost in the ruckus of the world’s fables. Remember what you heard, what your heart continues to tell you, and stay with the good news. This is God’s Word, Truth’s promise. We are not waiting for it. We are living it now as we stay focused on it, believe it, and let that good news of Life and Love radiate within us and in our lives.

“…be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;” (Ephesians 5: 18-19)

What a wonderful way to talk to yourself! Instead of the negative self-talk that is unproductive, critical, self-depreciating, angry, or fearful, we can begin to speak to ourselves with hymns, songs, praises!

These lovely melodies and joy-filled harmonies are uplifting to the consciousness and lead us into brighter experiences. These psalms come from that true Spirit in us, so they are more than just willful positive thinking. The music within is our genuine connection with Soul, our very being, the Truth of Life as God caused it to be—free, expansive, loving.

And so, we can begin this glory-song to ourselves and then share it with others, as it is meant to be shared. God’s children are made to harmonize. He gave us the voices, the lives, the qualities that blend perfectly with one another. When the heart sings, divine Love itself is ringing out, and this infinite song is heard and can be enjoyed by one and all.

“The fear of human opinion disables; trusting in God protects you from that.” (Proverbs 29: 25, the Message Bible)

It’s easy to get distracted by what people are saying about us, or what we believe they think of us. When we go about our lives preoccupied with how we look to others or seeking their approval, we relinquish our freedom and we miss out on the good we deserve.

On the contrary, when we trust God, listen to His thoughts to us and about us, we are propelled naturally forward, feel peaceful, and can be ourselves. This release to God’s awareness and approval of us, His right and satisfying design for us, causes us to thrive and progress, confidently. We can stop living tentatively, looking for validation from others and fearing their perceptions of us.

God knows you and also what is right. He created you to be you, and He is well-pleased when you are most expressing that genuine, honest identity. The stymying influence of personal opinions falls away naturally when we hear God’s voice in our heads, accept it in our hearts, and experience it through our protected, inspired, and fearless actions.

“My prayer for you is that you may have still more love—a love that is full of knowledge and wise insight. I want you to be able always to recognise the highest and the best, and to live sincere and blameless lives until the day of Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 1: 9-10, JB Phillips New Testament)

Let’s accept the blessing that this prayer bestows. We can acknowledge and cherish the natural progress that is ours. This is not a growth in human smarts, personal career success, an accumulation of accolades or of money. The sincere desire in this prayer is that we gain what is most freeing, powerful, and healing: Love.

As we receive this benediction, we find ourselves ready for an experience that is more full of genuine love, a love that is deep and divine. This love is also wisdom, an understanding affection whereby we see things more clearly. It makes us honestly compassionate, forgiving, and helpful. This expanding love opens us up to insights that lead to lives that are good, sincere, and impactful in the world.

Every day we should pursue and expect to see and feel more of that love that Paul is talking about here. We can open our hearts to that natural influx of God’s love which guides us toward the best, the highest, and the rightest lives. As we make that love our own and utilize it towards others, it only continues to grow and grow and grow.

“Pause where you are, and ponder the wonders of God.” (Job 37: 14, the Voice Translation)

Hold everything! Don’t wait until a better moment. Right here and now, pause and ponder.

No, don’t ruminate or analyze or overthink human situations and relationships, and the worries and fears that seem to come with that kind of thinking. Take that pause to reflect on God and His wonders. That is, take in what is real and true and awesome in power and beauty and presence. The wonders of God are around you and within you.

Love is speaking in your heart, telling you of its sweetness, tenderness, saving grace. God’s heavenly hand has made our amazing earth. Gratefully and thoughtfully see this glorious place with eyes open to what is here, in both the small ideas and the grander landscapes of life.

And in all this, remember the Source. God, good, the Creator Who is Life, is with you now, here, whispering assurances. Infinite Soul is reminding you gently, yet firmly, that you are one of His greatest wonders. Let’s pause and rejoice!

“We cannot fill vessels already full. They must first be emptied. Let us disrobe error. Then, when the winds of God blow, we shall not hug our tatters close about us.” (Science and Health, page 201)

It’s hard to let go. At times we feel that what we are familiar with is most comfortable. It seems like our memories, our regrets, our failures, and fears make up our very being. How can we let go of ourselves?

We certainly can’t be free of who we are. But discovering our genuine being can set us free. If we are to gain a new perspective and live with more energy and enthusiasm, health and peace, it’s necessary to release those tattered clothes. We must give up those old and unsuitable beliefs about ourselves and about life in general.

God is Life. This divine Life of ours is always new, always active, alive. We can experience the activity of God’s renewing presence as we make room for it. Be willing to clear out that mental vessel of clutter and shame and doubt and self-judgment and make room for the good news.

The Truth of our innocence and freedom can’t share space with the lies and accusations that we might be clinging to. Let those dense and dark and depressing ideas go. You deserve better. Let in the light, the refreshing goodness of God, which is ready now to fill you up with inspiration, freshness, light, and grace!
