“And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness.” (Isaiah 35: 8)

We are not trapped. We are not in a rut. We are not in a place of confusion or indecision. We are not without a way forward or a way out.

God’s promise in this verse is one we can rely on. A highway, an open road, is appearing before us. It is not only one course, it is the way, the right path that is more than merely humanly desirable. It is truly holy.

That way of holiness is a spiritual deliverance, advancing us, progressing us, causing us to grow in grace and in wisdom and in goodness. This way is not one of human devising. It is pure, sacred, clean, satisfying.

Let’s stop looking all over the place for material ways and those routes that are complex and unclear. Let’s open our eyes to God’s way, the highway to peace, purpose, and joy. It is a natural path and it is right there when we are ready.

“In the quiet sanctuary of earnest longings, we must deny sin and plead God’s allness. We must resolve to take up the cross, and go forth with honest hearts to work and watch for wisdom, Truth, and Love.” (Science and Health, p. 15)

Here is a description of true prayer—one that begins with our hearts, gains inspiration in thought, and is carried forward into life.

Cherish the quiet sanctuary. It’s where we commune with God. It begins with that earnest longing—a sincere desire to see more clearly, live more honestly, feel God’s presence and trust His care. In this space of prayer, we must make it about God and not our troubles. As we acknowledge and adore God’s allness, the mistaken views of separation, sin, shame, guilt, and fear dissolve. We are truly with God, good, alone, and in this we are at one with Truth.

And we can remember that this Truth continues with us as we go forth into the world. Distractions and discouragement may want to enter in, but we can resolve to take up that cross—choose to continue to believe and be loyal to what we felt in that sweet sanctuary. We can remain faithful and watchful. We can work with a devotion to our cause, taking each moment as it comes, with new insights. And we can eagerly return to our sanctuary every time we need guidance, comfort, and motivation to face the new day.

“And whenever you stand praying, if you find that you carry something in your heart against another person, release him and forgive him so that your Father in heaven will also release you and forgive you of your faults.” (Mark 11: 25, the Passion Translation)

Forgiveness is our release. When we seek healing, inspiration, comfort, we will find it through divine Love. And this Love requires that we also love.

If we would feel love and its saving presence and power, we can’t remain divided, a heart half ready and yet half resentful. Be willing to allow those moments of communing with God to be more than a plea for your own well-being, but also a yearning to let go. Let your prayer include an earnest desire to be shown where your heart may hold on to hatred, resentment, blame, and to be willing to forgive.

It may seem difficult, but if we want to gain the sweet peace and joy we seek from God, we must stop clinging to any bitterness. We can rejoice in the fact that divine Love Herself is ready to help us to love better, to let go of the mesmerizing sense of being wronged, and to release our brothers and sisters from our anger.

Forgiveness fulfills a desire to feel free. It is wisdom. For to hold one in our hearts as our enemy is to fill with darkness a space that is meant for light, joy, and love.

“He’s the hope that holds me and the Stronghold to shelter me, the only God for me, and my great confidence.” (Psalms 91: 2, The Passion Translation)

This prayer is an affirmation and a love song. In this psalm, we feel the deep trust and gratitude that the writer has for God. He has gained an awareness and understanding of God’s nature and presence through his own challenges and struggles.

The 91st Psalm aligns us with the truth of our protection. Here we are reminded of the divine Love that embraces us, that provides a feeling of hope at moments that may feel hopeless. We come to recognize that God’s power is infinite, and it preserves us. We are housed in God’s stronghold, sheltered by His intention for us. He keeps us safe and secure, because we are God’s own offspring and the very proof of His Being.

We can join the psalmist in this prayer and gain his confidence as well. The trust is singular. The song of praise and love shows complete devotion, a consecration to God as the only one for us. And He is for us. Our reliance on God, good, Love, Truth, gives us hope and peace in times of crisis. It brings us the clarity that leads us out of those times of trouble and into a life of glorious possibilities.

beauty

“…let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: for the work of his hands made us, yea, he made us by the work of his hands.” (Psalms 90: 17, George Lamsa Translation from the Aramaic)

We can settle into this marvelous message. It tells us of our heritage and of our divine rights in this moment and going forward.

God made us by His own hands. He created us out of His own exquisite qualities. He formed us to express His own intentions—Love, harmony, grace, glory, artistry, intelligence, Life. We are everything that God’s mastery must bring forth. We are each the ideal that God made. Perfection begets perfection. God is satisfied with His works—you and me.

And so, we can also realize and gratefully receive this word of Truth. We can pause and simply let that beauty that is God’s Love be claimed and felt. We can remember God and His magnificence and what that means for us. We were shaped by His hands, by the very instruments of divine affection and flawless ability.

We are blessed by God’s beauty. It is on us, in us, and around us. Feel it. Trust it. Gratefully bask in the full loveliness of Love.

childlikewonder

“Willingness to become as a little child and to leave the old for the new, renders thought receptive of the advanced idea. Gladness to leave the false landmarks and joy to see them disappear, — this disposition helps to precipitate the ultimate harmony.” (Science and Health, p. 323-324)

We may think we are unable to feel the sense of readiness for the new, like a little child, that this quote speaks about. But it isn’t a capacity for receptivity and openness that we lack. It is likely a lack of willingness.

Let’s recognize that the mortal mind may hold to the old, believe that our joys and our lives are in the past. That limited thought also sees our future as based on a perspective that is often narrow and closed off to new possibilities. But that mortal mind isn’t who we are, and it doesn’t have the truth for us.

We can break away from those false beliefs and opinions, parading as wisdom, and rediscover the innocence that is our true selfhood. We are children—fresh to this day and ready to be guided and taught, to grow and to prosper, to have fun!

Let’s let go of that human will, that know-it-all attitude that isn’t getting us anywhere or making us happy. Instead, let’s embrace the childlike (but not childish) heart within us, and be glad to give up the dated, the jaded, the false, for those new joys that satisfy, harmonize, invigorate, and bless!

praise-the-lord

“Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! It’s time to sing to God a brand-new song so that all his holy people will hear how wonderful he is!” (Psalms 149: 1, The Passion Translation)

Let’s really sing out from our hearts in praise of God! And let’s make it a new song, one written in this day, about this moment of experiencing God’s goodness and beauty and grace.

To do this, we must be alive to what God is doing and saying and being. We must open our eyes to love and to good. We must turn away from the distractions of negativity and fear. And while simple gratitude is wonderful, we can take it up a notch! We can celebrate God and His glorious qualities. We can sing out loud or in our hearts a hallelujah—glorying in what God has created and continues to reveal for us and through us.

Let’s be the way in which God—Love, Truth, goodness—is seen in the world. Let’s be examples of God’s awesome nature by fully appreciating Him. Let’s honor Him with a new song that freshly realizes and rejoices in His amazing ideas—those holy people that walk this world with us; the earth and its beauty; the inspiration and art and music that Soul’s richness is actively revealing today.

harvest1

“…let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” (Galatians 6: 9, New Living Translation)

Doing good may feel like a burden. It may seem at times that we work hard to help and to be good people, and yet it never brings us anything but weariness or loss.

But pause a minute. When we are doing good from a true motive of love for others and following the intuitions that lead us, we can’t help but enjoy the blessings ourselves. In the well-doing, we feel more alive; by seeing others benefit, we feel enriched.

The devilish mortal mind would want us to forget those natural rewards of giving and make us want to give up. It would have us believe it would be easier to give in to selfishness or to stop trying so hard to be good.

Certainly, we deserve a rest, and we can have it. We can do good faithfully and remember that we are doing it with God. He lovingly gives us gentling times when we can renew and refresh. He allows us occasions to be on the receiving end of the goodness of others. This is part of His plan.

And God’s timing is exquisite. The fruits of the good work that we do will blossom in ways that are just right and right on time. Let’s stay faithful to our true selves. Let’s relish our natural desire to do good and actively pursue it.

plain-of-the-field

“For the mind-set of the flesh is death, but the mind-set controlled by the Spirit finds life and peace. In fact, the mind-set focused on the flesh fights God’s plan and refuses to submit to his direction, because it cannot!” (Romans 8: 6-7, the Passion Translation)

Our mind-set is our rescue! Our consciousness is the place where it all happens. If we choose to focus on body, materiality, time, we have walked into a battlefield. Our thought has chosen the side of struggle, when there is a choice for progress and peace.

We can do our best to set our minds on God. That is, to allow our thoughts to dwell on spiritual things, to turn away from everything that would deprive us of joy and freedom and life and its perpetual promise. We can give up the human reasoning that is fallible because of its limits, and instead let God feed us with the Truth—the Truth that sets us free!

A focus on spiritual qualities like goodness and love and unity and progress is a way to move us out of thinking about mortality, gloom, finiteness. It is also the easier way. It requires less struggle against God’s natural design of good. And also, the Truth of Life is simpler. It is not confusing and complex, overwrought and challenging. God’s Truth, the Life that is Spirit and Love, is easier. It is Love accepted. It is joy embraced. It is life that lives in each moment with expectation. It is a loss of fear and of ego, and a sweet release to God’s control, comfort, direction, and affection.

“You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill.” (Matthew 5: 14, the Message Bible)

You have a purpose! You were designed to be light, and light needs to shine. Light breaks the dark, guides, opens our vision, makes things clearer. We can recognize the light within us—that Love that defies darkness and brings healing—and we can use it freely and without apology.

Your light is God’s own radiance. It is neither something to be afraid of sharing nor is it something to belittle. You have a beautiful holiness that must be made known. You can honor fully that spirit in you, God’s own resplendence, and be the proof of His goodness each day.

Why would we hide what gives us life? Why would we hesitate to be loving? How, in fact, can we really hide the glow of God? Can we stop that divine light from exposing the colors of the world, the diverse and beautiful variety of what God created?

Let’s not keep the saving glory of God a secret. Let’s go public by living as children of light, with a purpose to bring comfort, joy, color, beauty, and brightness to all, and to ourselves as well!
