“Yet the Lord pleads with you still: Ask where the good road is, the godly paths you used to walk in, in the days of long ago. Travel there, and you will find rest for your souls. But you reply, ‘No, that is not the road we want!’” (Jeremiah 6: 16, the Living Bible)

God is guiding us. His wisdom is calling us to do what honors His purpose and what is also just right for us.

We can earnestly seek God’s direction. We can stop getting out ahead of Him and our best lives with our own willful sense of what we want. We can listen to our hearts and recognize that spiritual sense, that Truth within that is leading us to a nobler way—one that is holier, and which also leads to more honest joy and satisfaction. We can learn how to discern when we are rejecting God’s right road for one that appears more in tune with the world’s opinions and distractions.

We can remember that progress often means a return to our roots—to our godly heritage, our innocence, our innate desire to be and do good. Following this good road, our divine purpose, we will do more than simply accumulate material things and accomplishments. We will find rest for our souls—an inner peace and joy and power that feels like coming home.

“So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.” (I Corinthians 15: 58, New Living Translation)

Have faith in what you are and what you do. Don’t let the world and your own doubts make you believe that you are not worthy or that your efforts are in vain.

Look to the motive behind what you do, and if that motive does not feel right and good to you, make it your purpose to purify it. Let the intention to do good, from your heart, move you forward and bring out your natural enthusiasm as well. Try to stop always looking for some daily tangible result to justify your activity. Do your best to simply love the doing of what you do, with divine Love feeding you and encouraging you along the way.

Staying strong and persistent isn’t always easy. But we can remember that we are not alone in our good works. Our fellow brothers and sisters are working with us, blending their light with ours, for a brighter day for all. So, we can lean into that unity of purpose and do what we are individually called to do. We can remember that God knows our hearts and rewards us daily with His approval, His inspiration, His care.

All that we do for good has God’s glory in it. We can accept this truth and feel it abundantly, joyously, gratefully.

“Let not any hateful words come out of your mouth, but whatever is good and useful for improvement that you may give grace to those who hear.” (Ephesians 4: 29, Aramaic Bible in Plain English)

What if we thought about giving grace each time we opened our mouths? Wouldn’t that change what we said and how we said it?

We can do our best to watch our words. We can pause before we say things that are hateful or may be interpreted that way. We can simply stay silent at times, and when we do speak, we can think more about how we can better serve by what we say. We can make our motive be to help, to improve the moment rather than to either cause or perpetuate fear, anger, discord.

God gives us His grace abundantly. He has filled us with His light and His Love. His Word is with us and in us. Let’s allow God’s intelligent goodness to feed us with constructive thoughts and words and then share these generously, graciously, with our world.

“Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life, then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding, will guard your heart and mind through Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 4: 6-7, the Passion Translation)

Let’s be saturated in prayer. Let’s allow this spirit of conscious oneness with God to embrace us and infuse us through our days. Let’s make our lives a conversation with the Divine—earnest, yet also natural and comfortable.

This tender yet powerful connection with God can begin with gratitude. We can certainly share our feelings and desires with Him, but we can also and most vitally listen for His answers and comfort. We can observe with our spiritual senses the good that is going on, the qualities that we have, the gifts that are at hand for which we can be thankful.

By acknowledging the presence of good, of God, we become aware of the reality of His boundless gifts and can accept and experience them. As we trust God with our thoughts and our hearts, we are able to feel that transcendent peace that Jesus revealed. We know that we are safe in what God knows of us, and that He is showing us more of His Love for us each day.

“Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” (Matthew 6: 34, the Message)

Stay in the moment with God. Give up the inclination to think ahead to what might happen tomorrow, what we may need to do or know or be.

Our human perspective is limited about the future. We can’t see the variables ahead and we can’t know exactly what God wants, the good that He has planned for us. Getting ahead of ourselves, and especially of God, is a waste of effort, and it can sometimes even paralyze us as our minds build up unpleasant scenarios.

This verse reminds us to simply and wonderfully give our entire attention to what God is doing right now! There is good, beauty, love, inspiration to be felt and seen. With our consciousness full of tomorrow’s fears and plans, we lose the joy and freedom, the light and ideas that God is providing for us in this moment. God is Life, and His Life is with us and in us, right now. This is a magnificent thing!

Let’s release tomorrow’s worries and gratefully awake to what is going on today, what God is showing us and giving us. Let’s stop and smell the roses God has arrayed for us and trust His infinite power and wisdom to provide for tomorrow’s needs in just the right time and just the right way.

“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.” (Ephesians 6: 10, New International Version)

Your work for others is valuable. And it is valued.

As we help one another with pure motives, we can rest in God’s care for us, His love of us and what we do. He does not require us to sacrifice our lives in order that others may be blessed. God is just, wise, loving. When we give our love to Him, devote ourselves to good as we are led, His own qualities are expressed in us.

His power brings us strength. He provides us with wisdom—the ideas that are needed to carry out His purpose and to achieve true harmony and progress. God’s own Love buoys us in the work that we do for His children, and this Love comes back to us as well, to comfort and uplift, to ease burdens and dispel fears.

God is supremely just. He knows our hearts and our works. We can certainly expect to feel the rich reward of doing good and to accept God’s available and full approval.

“You, O God, are both tender and kind, not easily angered, immense in love, and you never, never quit.” (Psalms 86: 15, Message Bible)

This definition of God is a promise. It reveals what God truly is and why we can trust Him with our lives.

As we pray to God knowingly, with an understanding of His identity, we are praying to the true God, and so we reap the benefits of this right worship. When we see that He is not a capricious, human-like god, who is touchy and easily riled, we can surrender our cares to Him, to the divine Love that God truly is.

God is tender and good. His Love is immense, infinite, and full of the vitality of His Spirit and His immortal Life. A recognition of God’s pure kindness settles and calms us. We can release ourselves to Him without fear and know He will neither punish us nor desert us.

And even when we may lose hope or lose energy, God endures. He never quits, never gives up on us or on His plans for our lives. God perpetually wants us to know His Love. And as we do, we can express it in our own experiences, sharing that boundless and healing divine affection with the world.

“I know your deeds, love, faithfulness, service, and endurance. Your labors greatly increase in quality as you travel along this journey.” (Revelation 2: 19, the Voice Translation)

Let’s value our good qualities and our good works. Let’s remember that God impels these right motives and actions and that He is well-pleased with us.

It’s easy to feel that our efforts are not seen or that they are not good enough. But that perspective is limited. It does not see and know what God knows about who we are and what we do, and what we can continue to do going forward.

Don’t give up on yourself and don’t let personal validation from others be what drives you forward. Go to your own heart and recognize God there. His goodness and Love are what really move you in your well-doing and these qualities will assure and comfort you as you continue in them.

Your life journey doesn’t decrease your value. It enhances its quality, makes your doing, your knowing, your giving, even more powerful, wise, healing. We are becoming masters at living and loving, and God will continue to utilize us and to cause us to grow even more in usefulness, enlightenment, goodness, and grace.

“Dear children, we must show love through actions that are sincere, not through empty words.” (I John 3: 18, God’s Word Translation)

Let’s love genuinely. Let’s be the dear children addressed here and behave as they might. Children love honestly. Even without the words that grown-ups may use, they share and show their affection.

As adults, we can remember this and be sure that our love is sincere and that our actions prove this. It’s easy to string together words or repeat platitudes with love as their meaning but perhaps not as motive or true intention. Words truly are empty without sincerity and without the behavior that follows.

A love that is superficial—talk without actions, words without real love—also is devoid of true power. God is Love and He is Truth. He is omnipotent. To empower our lives and really do good for others, we must love truly—with our hearts and through our deeds.

A heart full of God’s pure Love, free of judgment and conditions, can change lives. It can uplift and heal others and bring us real satisfaction and joy as well.

“The Lord protects the simple (childlike); I was brought low [humbled and discouraged], and He saved me.” (Psalms 116: 6, Amplified Bible)

A childlike disposition can be our salvation. God’s strength and wisdom is accessible to us and truly felt as we are humbled, as we let go of the prideful adult and agree that we need His help, guidance, comfort.

God protects us in our vulnerabilities—those sensitivities and fears that seem to make us a target for attack. We may feel uncertain and small, even gullible and naïve, but God is certain, clear, and ready. His loving consciousness embraces the child in us while also encouraging us to grow, to realize our own ability to survive and to thrive.

We may find ourselves discouraged, believing that things just never work out for us or that we are confronted with too many challenges. But this is an opportunity to release those doubts and all that judgment of self and of life to the Father-Mother, the One Who knows who we really are and loves us fully, truly, and constantly.

When we feel low, small, God is ready to help us. His infinite power can do more than human will and pride can ever do, really saving us, lifting us, and setting us free to flourish.
