“Let not any hateful words come out of your mouth, but whatever is good and useful for improvement that you may give grace to those who hear.” (Ephesians 4: 29, Aramaic Bible in Plain English)
What if we thought about giving grace each time we opened our mouths? Wouldn’t that change what we said and how we said it?
We can do our best to watch our words. We can pause before we say things that are hateful or may be interpreted that way. We can simply stay silent at times, and when we do speak, we can think more about how we can better serve by what we say. We can make our motive be to help, to improve the moment rather than to either cause or perpetuate fear, anger, discord.
God gives us His grace abundantly. He has filled us with His light and His Love. His Word is with us and in us. Let’s allow God’s intelligent goodness to feed us with constructive thoughts and words and then share these generously, graciously, with our world.
