Being Free Now

“Christianity is the basis of true healing. “ (Science and Health, page 192)

The foundation, the starting point, the basis of all real and lasting healing is Christianity. It is in our Christ-like approach to living and being that we are able to heal and experience healing. The Principle is secure. God has made all things according to His perfection, power, and Love. He has caused only the right to be and to endure, and His work is complete, finished, incontestable.

This realization of being must be accepted and practiced. The way is the Christ and the way to find the way, to become acquainted with its tender power, is Christianity. It is that faith in and trust of God and His child, the son that Jesus demonstrated and that we already are. We must accept the Christ, the message of God and His heaven, His goodness, and our own natural inheritance of divinity.

And so, knowing who we are, we can set forth to be true Christians—not as a religious sect, but as those who practice the Christ-intention, that healing thought and touch that bless every place in which we enter. We can naturally be kind and compassionate, yet diligent and faithful and strong in our convictions, our firm understanding that God is All and that He is absolute good, right here, right now. Let us truly grasp with our hearts what it means to be a “Christian” and then our healing will be in line with that which the very first Christian could accomplish. And, just as Jesus promised, we will do greater things as well!

It’s a brand new year! It’s a fresh human appearing of the divine creation, that which is finished and whole and perfect and satisfying and inclusive of all life and being. This revelation of Truth, these new views, are discovered through our human experiences, our trials, our growth, our loss of ignorance and our gain of wisdom, hope, and contentment.

All is already done. The new year of human consciousness is blessed in that it is given new perspectives daily, new ways of witnessing the goodness, new visions of the Love that is divine, that heals, purifies, unites, and saves. Our life is Life Itself–it naturally progresses, flourishes, and advances. This is the law of being. Our Live must be opening up before us, never tapering off or shutting in or breaking down.

Let us love each of our experiences and acknowledge the new awareness they bring of our divine origin and purpose and substance. Let us cherish that we are always ascending to heights where the view is greater, the images clearer, and God’s presence more realized as that which leads us forward, out of yesterday into the bright promise of today!

“Which of these two theories concerning man are you ready to accept? One is the mortal testimony, changing, dying, unreal. The other is the eternal and real evidence, bearing Truth’s signet, its lap piled high with immortal fruits.” (Science and Health, page 494)

We have a choice. We can decide consciously what we want to have and who we want to be. We can choose to believe in and be mesmerized by that which is mortal and dying, unreliable and uncertain, confusing and disturbing. We can allow that lying sense testimony to keep us feeling caged and limited and condemned.

Or we can see with our spiritual eyes, feel with our true hearts, and accept fully with our Christ-minds, that which is real, lasting, and perfectly good. We can recognize the pure and eternal man who God made, that man who is capable of all good, perpetually blessed, ready for Life that is divine and satisfying. We can perceive this reality of being and rejoice that it is ours both to express and to also know in others. The beautiful and enduring ideal is always ours to be and to see. The ugly and finite can be refuted, refused, and given up.

Let’s not be timid or slow about making this choice. Let’s accept that bounty that Truth has given us, that glory that is ours, that unlimited freedom that is our birthright. The wrong idea can seem so solid, but it is mortal mind’s conviction, not the certainty of Truth, of Soul, of God. Spirit declares us rightly, and that testimony is unshakeable, incontestable, and everything that we already have and already are.

“The lack of spiritual power in the limited demonstration of popular Christianity does not put to silence the labor of centuries. Spiritual, not corporeal, consciousness is needed.” (Science and Health, page 67)

Don’t let the small and limited blind you to the grand and limitless. Don’t allow the Christ to be obscured by human observation and analysis, cynicism and arrogance. We need a spiritual consciousness, an awareness based on Truth, on fact, on Science and not on that which would oppose it—mortal mind, that false sense of life in matter.

The work of the early prophets and of Mary Baker Eddy can’t be silenced or forgotten. What came before naturally set a precedent that can’t be overturned. The proof is the proof. The Truth is the Truth. Jesus Christ risen is Life immortal and immaterial. We see because it has been seen. We know because our spiritual, not our corporeal, consciousness opens wide our eyes and our hearts to God, and to the grace called Christian Science healing.

 Our acceptance of this perpetual power and its undaunted presence gives us the ability to utilize and demonstrate it. We are not here to question, argue with, fret over, debate about, the Truth that Jesus revealed, established, and proved. We would unnecessarily limit the spiritual by relegating it to the human sense of it. The Principle that heals and saves does not need to be justified by testimony that is fallible. It needs to be cherished and adored and utilized because it is incontestable, the Word that is always right and that is as significant and active today as it was centuries ago.

“And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.” (Isaiah 40:5)

Merry Christmas and hallelujah! Let’s celebrate Life and Love and the infinite presence of good, God, our generous and wise Creator-Father-Mother-Friend. Let’s join in a great chorus, sometimes in unison, sometimes in harmony, but always in beautiful and active praise of the Truth of our unity, our oneness with God and so with each other and with all mankind.

God’s glory is revealed. The Christ that appeared to the human thought continues to remind us that the Spirit of divine Life is here and that we can witness it. All flesh, all people, all nations, all creation can see this together. We can bear witness to the great appearing of the Comforter, that genuine and gentle spirit that comes to us where we are and shows us who we are—the children of infinite Spirit, of immortal Life, of perfect Love.

And this glory shall be seen in our being, in our acting, in our substance, in the ease and comfort and rightness of our bodies and our peaceful minds. The Word of God is clear and true. It embraces and expresses all. Everything that is, must be His and like Him. So, on the Christmas morning, on this reminder of the sacred birth of the sign of Immanuel—God with us–we can know and love that not a place on this globe nor in our being can fail to express what the mouth of the Lord has spoken, and to see it clearly and fully together.

“A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.” (John 16: 21)

The new idea is constantly being brought forth. The bright promise for the recognition of the true man and woman that we are is always breaking through. The joy is already here to be claimed. We know what awaits, for we know our Father-Mother, and He knows us—the conception of His Love and the proof of His perfect Being. Our mourning can cease now. The sweet child of Love is about to make a stunning entrance!

Let us also know that we–just as a mother who loses the agony of the birth process when she holds her little one close–can give up the struggle, anguish, complaints and pains of yesterday for the newborn day and its wonderful potential. While we may feel that our lives have been too hard, too challenging, too much full of pain or loss or injustice, we can let that go. Our hour has come. Today is a day that we bear witness to the emergence of that developing idea. Now is the hour that we awake to behold ourselves and our lives clean and pure and ready to be loved and celebrated!

Today “a man is born into the world.” Today is the Christ-idea that Jesus proved ready for praise and honor, for grateful reverence. Today is our own new child born, our innocent yet powerful selfhood ushered forth into the bright morning to be embraced, sung over, celebrated, and upheld by the firm and tender hand of God.

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” (Luke 6: 38)

Give with generosity, with freedom, without fear. You have an unlimited supply of riches to share. You sparkle with a beauty more pleasing than a case full of jewels. Your presence, your life, your active being is resplendent and abundant. Give with joy what you have and who you are. Such giving blesses, with no loss to you, and a great gain for all.

When we give with love and of Love, it is returned to us with an immeasurable fullness. Those who receive give back to us—whether in the form of substance or the simple yet great gift of gratitude, a smile, a release to joy and wonder and hope. And yet this measure of good that comes back to us has never been outside of us to begin with. But by our use, fearlessly, of the qualities of good, the gifts that we have, we only become more aware of their origin, of God, of that which is infinite and loving and right.

There is never a call or justification for stinginess. There is never a reason to hold back on a heartfelt impulse to share, to give a gift that pleases, and by doing so, to make joy, comfort, light more powerful in the world. For that satisfied soul who receives from us, gives as well, causing the world to unite in one great purpose, with God as the source and circumference of it all. This is spiritual love uplifting the world beyond materialism and personal ownership, to the great fact that God is all, and that we, therefore, are perfectly blessed and thoroughly satisfied.

“Neither sympathy nor society should ever tempt us to cherish error in any form, and certainly we should not be error’s advocate.” (Science and Health, page 153)

No disease or disturbing belief about man and about life should be allowed a place of honor and attention. We should be sympathetic with individuals who may suffer, should show them compassion and tenderness and understanding, but, at no time should we “sympathize” with the error itself, no matter how pervasive seems the disease or how frightening its name.

We are God’s representatives. We speak for and express the Truth, the Life, and the Love that casts out these falsities, that praises God’s presence and lives it for all to see and to rejoice in. We should not cherish in thought, keep a vigil with and give abiding attention to, that which is not good, right, and desirable. We must always be an advocate for Truth, keeping that which is God’s law in thought as we defend ourselves and all from the accusations that have no basis and that depress hope.

No matter how aggressive a sickness or error may seem to be, we should never find justification for it, pity over it, or attribute it to a source, a beginning, a reason, and an eventual prognosis. Error is never real. There are no exceptions. The law always supports harmony, immortal life, God’s purpose and design upheld.

Let us be wise to the temptation to get too close to a problem, whether it be one we observe in the world or in our own bodies and lives. We have the healing Truth at hand to cherish and utilize. Making the lie comfortable will never make us more comfortable. Stay on the right side, on your own side, on God’s side, and win!

“Creator….the animating divine Principle of all that is real and good.” (Science and Health, page 583)

The one and only Creator of all is God, good, divine Love. This Principle alone is the creative power of all life, of all that exists in Truth. And this loving Source is that which animates us, without fail or exception.

To animate means to give life, to make alive and bring into being. It can mean “to make lively, vivacious, or vigorous; give zest or spirit to” and “to fill will courage, encourage, and to motivate to action.”

Let’s realize with gratitude what this powerful Principle is able to do and must do for all, for each of us. Not only are we living and breathing, expressing that immortal Life that is God and His own Being, but we are also daily and hourly being given that spirit which makes us not only alive but also lively, full of zest, energy and motivation.

This Principle, Love, is changeless, immovable, reliable. It does not get sapped by weariness, atmosphere or climate, discouragement, a human sense of burden, or fear. This Creator of our life is constantly animating, renewing, charging up and encouraging us. Our God, Spirit, perfect good necessarily causes us not only to be alive, but to feel alive, to feel joy and eagerness, a readiness for activity, for prayer, for work, for play, and for praise.

Let’s recognize that the creative power in our lives is not a personal sense of movement or enthusiasm–coming and going, here one day, gone the next–but is a divine essence, a power that is always at the ready, always lovingly moving us, and giving us a life that is purposeful and pleasing.
