Daily Inspiration, November 27th

“We should become more familiar with good than with evil, and guard against false beliefs as watchfully as we bar our doors against the approach of thieves and murderers.” (Science and Health, page 234)

You would not willingly allow a shady individual to enter into your home and have full run of your house and all that is in it. Just so, we should be as alert about what thoughts we allow into our mental home and how comfortable we make them there. Our consciousness can and should be filled with welcoming ideas, those that bring beauty and light to our sweet minds.

Are we preoccupied with fear, with lack, with regrets, with self-justification, blame, and anger? Are we ruminating when we could be rejoicing? These mesmerizing ideas are murdering our peace and productivity, and robbing us of a really good time! Don’t allow those sneaky devils to dirty up your good, clean, house–your consciousness that was built to express and to receive love!

A right and good thought can accomplish miracles in moments. An unproductive thought can torture us for years if we let it. Watch that those bad ideas don’t take over, don’t become legitimate pieces of furniture in your home. And, it’s never too late to clear them out. The thought that’s been battered to pieces by our constant attention is even riper for a trip to the garbage, so toss it and celebrate with a new outlook. Leave room for fresh ideas, for simple goodness. These lovely thoughts will not only uplift you, they will protect and heal you and bring joy not only to your mind, but to your life and the lives of those around you.

Daily Inspiration, November 22nd

“Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.” (Psalms 100: 4)

To know the glories of God’s household, we must enter with a gift. This gift is not a sacrifice of some material possession nor is it some religious ritual. It is a heart full of gratitude. To know the fullness of God, we must love Him, recognize this available fullness and goodness, and begin our worship with thanksgiving for our big blessings.

To enumerate personal gifts we have and to at the same time repeat or be conscious of personal lacks, is not a true gratitude. We must come to God’s table already full, already overflowing with that awareness that we are in a holy place always, on every day of the year, because we are always family at God’s table, always the recipients of the best of everything in abundance, freely.

Our Father-Mother has never failed to carve out a perfect life for us. We are not waiting for a single good thing. The goodness in our lives is not confined to what our limited senses can see. The glory of God is infinite and eternal. Right now and always we are compassed about with all the Love there is. Truth always actively fills every corner. The law of God’s Principle is always supporting us, and Life is always expressing itself fully and vitally as our very being. We are surrounded by and full of God’s substance– perfect good–at all times. Gratefully accept this spread, and claim it. When we do this, we can’t help but be absolutely satisfied and honestly, genuinely, fully thankful.

A very, very Happy Thanksgiving to you all!

Daily Inspiration, November 20th

“As a drop of water is one with the ocean, a ray of light one with the sun, even so God and man, Father and son, are one in being. The Scripture reads: ‘For in Him we live, and move, and have our being.’ ” (Science and Health, page 361)

Just imagine being as beautiful as an ocean and as bright as the sun. Just imagine living as broadly and as magnificently as the blanket of stars that make up a clear night sky. Your imagination has merely touched upon the ideal glory that you achieve now and eternally in reality, as the very idea of God.

God’s infinite being is incomplete without your presence and your presence is never anything but the very expression of His entireness, His infinite quality, His awesome splendor. The scriptural promise is ours to recognize and live. Being a drop of water in the ocean is not a loss of you, but a discovery of your infinite identity, always full in the fullness, necessary to God’s wholeness, and having the very same quality as the broader idea, the full expanse of goodness.

And so, you cannot ever lose any good quality, for you are the expression of it, not the owner of it. The ray of the sun is not in control, and yet it never leaves the sun and always effortlessly expresses the sun’s nature—light, warmth, beauty. The substance of the universe is God, good, Love. This is our being, infinite in measure and always superior in our ability to inspire and to be inspired.

Daily Inspiration, November 15th

“Prayer cannot change the unalterable Truth, nor can prayer alone give us an understanding of Truth; but prayer, coupled with a fervent habitual desire to know and do the will of God, will bring us into all Truth.” (Science and Health, page 11)

The Truth is settled and it is perfectly good. The established facts of being are harmony, perfection, and peace. Prayer can’t make God any more ever-present and loving than He already is. Prayer alone can’t bring us a full understanding of God’s infinite Mind and of His divine purpose. There is more that must be done.

God is all action and intention. A human prayer does not impact God’s will. It awakens us to it. It brings thought into line with the divine intention, clearing the mists of material sense and showing us our true being and the state of things as they really are. Our prayer is our conscious choice to enter into a place of peace, of worship, of hope, of expectation, and of Love, and to do it again and again. This open and willing and not willful mind is a stance which invites in angels.

And with this conscious state of God, good, we are ready to gain even more. As we commune with God and not material sense, mortal men, or human thought, we gain clarity and a power that can bring us into all Truth. It is not so much about knowing all things, but about wanting to know. It isn’t about getting ahead of God’s plan, but about keeping in step with it, with the daily glimpse of the fullness of His Love and the rightness of His will, His sweet and certain intention for you and all.

Daily Inspiration, November 13th

“For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” (Romans 10: 11-13)

We have nothing to be ashamed of, nor can we put shame or judgment on another. All are God’s own ideas and He is just as loving and righteous and saving toward each one of us. The distinctions and qualifications set by mortal mind and accepted through limited human opinion have no power to change God’s infinite Love and the tender nearness of His embrace of all.

Each of us is a glory. Each of us is worthy of God’s care and rich in His grace—the bestowal naturally of His own qualities on each one of us. Our individuality expresses God’s infinite nature. None are the same. Each is distinctly pleasing to God as the very right concept He formed and eternally treasures. God does not care for any of us more or less because of the way we worship. We may limit our receptivity to His goodness, but we will never limit the measure of His loving-kindness and its sustained presence.

Our salvation is not contingent on a certain material makeup, a religious choice, or how educated we are in the scriptures or anything else. Our salvation is reliant on God and is seen by realizing what He is: the One Love that erases all other distinctions, washes away judgment, opinions, and condemnation and shows us all to be rich brothers and sisters, the right and lovely and lovable children of God.

Daily Inspiration, November 8th

“I AM. God; incorporeal and eternal Mind; divine Principle; the only Ego.” (Science and Health, page 588)

The one Ego is God. Every sentence must in Truth begin with God’s pronoun and action. “I AM” is that forever present tense sense of Life, proceeding from the one great and only thinker, the only actor and action. This is the divine Principle by which all reality must be recognized and practiced. We cannot gain an honest perspective if we start from a wrong premise.

Separate egos, individual personalities, opinions, and perspectives must yield to the fact of Mind, the one and only perfect Ego. All identities and expressions belong to the Mind of God. His pure and perfect awareness of Himself is the state of all being. What He conceives and what He knows is Life as it truly is. This is not a loss of self, but a discovery of it. We find ourselves to be under the control of God’s clear thought, His perfect motive, and so we are always right and at peace.

We can find our own individual truth, but we must begin with the I AM, start by claiming only the Ego that can know and announce holiness. This right Mind cannot say or feel that “I AM” sick or sinful, fearful and discouraged, lonely or depressed. The I AM which is God states the condition of all Life, our Life. Any sentence beginning with His name must conclude with His expressed object, man as the loved ideal of Himself, never separate from Him and always under His loving and satisfied control.

“I shall not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the Lord shall rule over you.” (Judges 8: 28)

There is only one true ruler over us all. We all come under the one authority, God, the divine Principle of Life.  Our elected human leaders can’t usurp the divine control or overturn God’s laws of righteousness and Life and Love. Those who we vote into office must necessarily obey the higher power, that One Who governs and maintains the universe and always has.

Let’s give power where it is due. Let’s stay clear with our own calm thought that while we may or may not trust a specific leader in our own country or another’s, we can always trust God. His law is supreme over all, a constant, and He is infinite wisdom, perfect goodness, and faithful Love. We can cast our vote for what seems our highest right, utilizing our own spiritual discernment and wisdom, based not on human opinions or mesmerizing propaganda, but on the gentle voice of God’s leading.

We can rest gratefully on God’s ability to keep what He has created in our nations as well as in our individual lives and bodies. Politics are not law and neither are material beliefs about what constitutes our health and well-being. We are not ruled over by a person or by “his son”–a human opinion about life and its possibilities. We are governed by God, our own Father-Mother, Who unifies all He has made in the greater good called Love.

Daily Inspiration, November 1st

“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten…” (Joel 2: 25)

God’s promise is restoration, a return to innocence, peace, fullness, joy. All that would seem to disappear with mortal life, with the years and the tears and the fears, is given back to us by the Truth that is Love and that is Life eternal. God does not allow us to be anything less than His ideal. He refreshes us with His qualities and with the tenderness of His merciful Love.

The locusts of material experience might seem to eat away at our confidence, our faith, our peace. They may seem to ravage our bodies and our relationships, leaving us shredded and small and lifeless. But God does not allow this barrenness to remain. He nourishes us and causes the ravaged field of our lives to bring in a new and better crop, full of goodness and with it the grace of our gratitude.

Nothing good can be lost. We have no need to ceaselessly mourn what yesterday failed to give us or seemed to take away from us. God is here. Good is here. The Truth is here. The fullness of Love is here. We are restored in each moment that we claim this magnificent now, this perfect oneness with the Life that makes all things new, fresh, full of promise, and ready for praise.

Daily Inspiration, October 31st

“That evil or matter has neither intelligence nor power, is the doctrine of absolute Christian Science, and this is the great truth which strips all disguise from error. (Science and Health, page 454)

Error may seem to have its day, its scary dark hour of lurking around playing tricks on us hidden from identification. The ghoulish images of sickness, discord, pain, and loneliness may seem real and powerful and alive. But each of these is false, simply suggestions in various costumes offering us trickery and palming our treats.

Don’t buy the story. A disguise is simply a disguise. A little boy dressed like superman can’t really fly. And a suggestion of mortal mind wearing the costume of disease, hatred, anger, regret, has no power to carry out its threats. We can strip off the disguise from evil and matter by recognizing that only the Truth is valid and real and intelligent. The attempts of error to knock at the door of our consciousness in scary outfits, should not throw us into fear. The disguise is made of mistaken concepts and the unmasking comes by the certain and steady hand of Truth.

Hallowe’en may be here and we may enjoy child-like fun with costumes, jack-o-lanterns, and treats. This playful exercise can be taken into our daily lives, as we recognize that all the disguises do come off at the end of the day, we go to our gentle rest, and we wake up to a bag of treats! Nothing about error should alarm us. It is nothingness in disguise and we can’t be afraid of a mere costume no matter how believable and well-crafted it may be!

Have fun this Hallowe’en and every day!

Daily Inspiration, October 30th

“To hold yourself superior to sin, because God made you superior to it, and governs man, is true wisdom.” (Science and Health, page 231)

The mistaken beliefs and unlovely behavior we may think about or indulge in do not need to engender punishment or fear of it. We shouldn’t prop up sin as some god that will destine us to hell in the here or the hereafter. Sin–wrong belief and practice–has only the power we invest it with. It is a wooden god which may mesmerize us for a time but can never either give us anything or take anything away.

God is the one power and He is good. We express His rightness and goodness naturally, for He did not create or perpetuate evil. Divine Love’s love for each of us is here to inform and reform, not to damn and destroy. The false accusation of sin has no sticking power. The Truth of our own being is our strong and unwavering defense. We can stand on that perfect and loving Principle and put down the claims of evil, not as groveling mortals, but as the divine ideas which we in fact are and are ready to express.

This is wisdom. Take hold of the truth of your innocence rather than pleading guilty and either condemning yourself now or awaiting fearfully some future condemnation. God’s ever-presence and omnipotence requires that He actively fills all space. He will not stand for evil, and yet He will always stand by you, perpetuate His idea of you, and show you your freedom not only from sin, but from fear. Our innocence is stronger than our belief in our guilt. Don’t cower when you can conquer!
