“Be glad; rejoice forever in my creation! And look! I will create Jerusalem as a place of happiness. Her people will be a source of joy.” (Isaiah 65: 18, New Living Translation)

God’s creation, the ideas He made, are all about happiness. Divine Love expressed its abundant goodness, tenderness, beauty, and creativity in a people and a world that are the very joy of His heart. This place that God made was built to be a place of contentment, of peace, of grateful exultation.

Know where you come from. You are a native of the joyful country. Your language is laughter and love. You have peace within and beauty around you. God has placed you in a precious place. He has chosen you be to the very witness to His own satisfaction. He has created you to unite with all ideas harmoniously, to be a living example of the fullness of His love and the constancy of His gladness.

We are built out of God’s own Love. We dwell in God’s heavenly affection and so we are happy–naturally, innately, immutably. It is our true state of being and it endures as it is expressed. When we honor our happy heritage, recognize that we are born of Spirit and not of matter, of Life and not of mortality, we can’t help but not only be happy, but share our joy with others, be a source of joy not simply a seeker after it.
God rejoices in His children, you and me, and this boundless joy is ours to receive and express. Look. Right here is happiness! Here’s looking at you!

“The purpose and motive to live aright can be gained now. This point won, you have started as you should…Working and praying with true motives, your Father will open the way.” (Science and Health, page 326)

Seize the moment. Right now, we can choose the right way, purify and elevate our motives, see our way and win the day. There is nothing about yesterday’s mistakes or ignorance that needs to remain in today, to follow you around and keep you looking over your shoulder in judgment.

We’ve all done things we aren’t so proud of. We may today see in ourselves a tendency to motives that are more selfish or self-centered than they should be. But this is no reason for condemnation. It is an occasion to refresh and renew. It is not a time for guilt, self-justification, or gloomy resignation. It is a precious opportunity to see ourselves in a better way. See into that sweet heart of yours that truly does want to be good, to understand God and His purpose, to bring the blessings of divine Love to humanity.

This is your true motive and it rests inside you. Claim it and own it. Refuse to let the mortal mind talk you out of your own innate goodness. Stay on your own side and nurture your goodness. Your purpose is settled in God and it resonates beautifully with His purpose. Keep your heart full of love and expectation, and this very day will reveal more good for you to experience and to share. Take this new moment with vigor and embrace its powerful potential with gratitude and joy!

“…Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.” (Matthew 15: 13)

We don’t get to hang out with the weeds. Our lives are not allowed to be filled with unsavory, unwelcome, unlovely elements and ideas. If God didn’t specifically plant an idea, a quality, an intention, it can’t remain to spoil our garden. In Truth, anything that is not of God has no roots to begin with. It simply can’t endure the seasons without losing its appeal, potency, and life.

Mary Baker Eddy reminds us in her textbook that “sin and the fear of disease must be uprooted and cast out” (page 188). These were not planted by our heavenly Father. God didn’t bring us into His beautiful Life and then include with it something which would darken that life and make it ugly. Our loving God did not create us to live in shadows, constantly looking over our shoulder or out in the distance for the threat of a disease that could hurt or destroy us or a personality trait or tendency that would be our downfall.

These things have got to be rooted up. This is not simply our desire, it is God’s demand. Nothing which He did not design, nurture, and sanction, has any place or purpose in His Life, our Life. So don’t expect that those ugly things you may be thinking about yourself or those fears you are hanging on to can stick around. Each new season of our experience and fresh growth in thought will expose these weeds–these ugly habits, fears, and noxious beliefs about life–until they blow away or are easily pulled up because they are both obvious and rootless. Then our garden must look just like God caused it to be—immaculate, colorful, fruitful, beautiful, living and growing and glorious!

Daily Inspiration, June 5th

“No condemnation now hangs over the head of those who are ‘in’ Jesus Christ. For the new spiritual principle of life ‘in’ Christ lifts me out of the old vicious circle of sin and death.” (Romans 8: 1-2, JB Phillips New Testament)

Break that unkind cycle with your awareness. Step out of the story of a life that is fraught with sin and punishment, with sickness and death. That is not your story and it does not have any validity. The Christ brought us the Truth, the consciousness that we are not sons of matter and therefore built to break, falter, and deteriorate, but in fact the sons of God, of perfect Spirit, Life, and Love.

That bell tolling condemnation does not ring for you. It is silenced by the spiritual principle of life that Jesus preached and demonstrated. We are children of God and made like Him, with His infallible and unopposed intention, and we are worthy of Love and not condemnation.

That doesn’t mean we may not make human mistakes. But just as a child, we are not condemned to misery for our ignorance. We are instructed into understanding; to knowing why we are better than the errors that would tempt us. We are daily led out of the belief that we are guilty and fearful into the realization that we are, in fact, good, because God made us so. It is natural for us to behave in accordance with our true selfhood.

We are not groveling our way out of sin, hoping to prove our goodness so we can escape the final judgment in some future experience. We are not condemned, but blessed. So let us realize this true humility that isn’t about humiliation but is about yielding to God’s design, His authority, and being the loved children of God that we are. Let this be your true story and live it boldly and gratefully!

Daily Inspiration, June 3rd

“Hold thought steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true, and you will bring these into your experience proportionably to their occupancy of your thoughts.” (Science and Health, page 261)

Keep your thought focused on the good if you want to experience that well-being. Begin with the riches of gratitude, if you are feeling mesmerized by good’s opposite, by troubles, limits, lack, and fears. This consciousness of what is truly good and right and real and satisfying in life leaves little room for that darkness to remain dark. One candle of thankful awareness will light the whole cave and show you a way out.

The good that is already yours consists of even more than the material things you see or the people in your life (although these certainly can be evidence of good, of God’s presence). Truth and Life and Love are at hand and fill all space at all times. Abundance is a divine Principle, and so it is ours to know and appreciate. Humor and laughter and music and art and nature are great gifts that are evidence of God’s presence and worthy of recognizing and cherishing.

Let this reflection on good things occupy your thought. Include that loveliness that is seen as well as those things that we do not readily see with our material eyes—the availability of perfect opportunity, the surprise of tomorrow’s sunrise, the next occasion to give to another of your love. And in proportion to that awareness of the sunlight of good brightening your thought, the shadows will flee and you will be able to see even more of God’s glorious good, prepared lovingly just for you today.

Daily Inspiration, May 29th

“Truly I say to you, unless you repent (change, turn about) and become like little children [trusting, lowly, loving, forgiving], you can never enter the kingdom of heaven [at all].” (Matthew 18: 3, Amplified Bible)

Repent of your ego. Change your mind about your own human knowledge and the need to be in control. Let go of that sense that life is your responsibility, for good or for bad, that you are the one for credit or blame. There is no heaven in being burdened. There is no freedom in being the parent of your life.

Be the child and do it now. Turn back the clock of mortal beliefs and restore the original settings. Be the little one of God that you were meant to be. Claim anew the innocence that is within you, that deep desire to simply listen and follow, to be taught and to make new discoveries. Take a fresh look at the world as a child would and go forth with your thought ready to wake up to Life and to Love.

It may seem like a challenge to repent, to give up those habits of shame and blame and victimization and fear and cynicism. But Jesus wasn’t asking us to do something we could not do. He was too loving for that. What he kept on telling us and proving was that we are children of God, and so we are not becoming something else, but simply accepting what we are. That genuine childlikeness is within us; that paradise is not lost or distant. Truly, Jesus said. Honestly, our only way to be at peace, happy, satisfied is to be the very children of God we already so truly are.

“At the beginning God expressed himself. That personal expression, that word, was with God, and was God, and he existed with God from the beginning. All creation took place through him, and none took place without him.” (John 1: 1-3, JB Phillips New Testament)

God’s word, the very Truth of being, is the one creative Principle of all that exists. God spoke: He announced His purpose, He expressed Himself eloquently and perfectly at the beginning, as the Originator, and He said all that ever was said or needed to be said.

The fullness of His Word, His Truth of His own Father-Motherhood, is the first and final reality of things. His awareness of His own thoughts and His love for His offspring, His own perfect creation is the forever fact of Life–our Life. And this Truth and its expression remains in its original form: God and man at one, every idea He conceived being sustained by His constant attention, protection, and affection.

Nothing was formed but what God formed. Nothing unlike infinite, pure goodness, has a beginning nor was it expressed, made manifest. The Word remains with God and that Word is everlasting Life–God’s immortal children dwelling as the constant, immediate, and eternal expression of His boundless, flawless Love.

Daily Inspiration, May 22nd

“When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.” (Proverbs 3: 24)

Our nights can seem to be some of our most challenging times when they are meant to be our most restful and replenishing. The darkness and stillness may seem to give the devil, that belief in evil, an open door to knock on our consciousness and stir us up at times both physically and mentally, to make us fearful and anxious and uncomfortable.

Let’s deny the devil a place in our bed. There isn’t room. Let’s remember that God is with us at all times and is the very substance of every sleeping or waking moment. His goodness is active presence at all times. There is no place or opportunity for fear or any reason for it. We rest in God’s consciousness, His perfect peace, not in material thinking or in a material body. His wise and loving Mind gives us a comfy place to lay our heads and rest our cares.

Your sleep shall be sweet, for divine Love requires it. You are never alone and never separate from God’s conscientious control over all things. We can let go of the ruminating, the mental and physical tossing and turning, and let God’s angels get busy with preparing our perfect morning, our beautiful life. They do not need our help.

We can gratefully and willingly receive the night as a place to be loved by God without conversation or conditions, and relish this great and sweet and healing release.

Daily Inspiration, May 20th

“…we are the children of God. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ;” (Romans 8: 16, 17)

We are not children of fate, children of time, children of mortal experience or of human generation. We are the very children of God. The offspring of God remain forever His little ones, the innocent ideas of His pure Mind and the joy of His loving heart. These dear children are never left to fend for themselves or to take over control of Life.

The children of men and of circumstance would endure limits and lack, personal flaws and betrayals. But this is not your true identity and you don’t need to settle for less than the facts. You are born of God. You are a joint-heir with Christ to the very kingdom of great goodness. You are loved as purely and significantly as Jesus, and are the natural and uncontested recipient of the full good of the Father-Mother.

Be childlike, but not childish. Don’t fuss about what you haven’t got or pout about what you want or envy another and try to take his toys from him. You are a child of God, so you are content. You are loved and have been naturally bestowed with a heritage of freedom and a full inheritance of good. You are whole, complete, without regrets or fears. Material possessions and power are elusive and unsatisfying. You have been given the very kingdom, the Love of God that is a constant and will never leave you without what is right, good, and yours.

Daily Inspiration, May 15th

“Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:” (Luke 6: 37)

Jesus clearly did not approve of judgment, of passing sentence on others based on personal perceptions. He saw that in order to feel true harmony and peace in one’s own life, one could not go about treating others poorly or even seeing them as unworthy, meriting condemnation, or unforgivable.

This admonition was not merely about being a good human being. Jesus’s teachings were based on the law of Love. One cannot be loyal to God and in line with His harmonious Life if he is not recognizing and acknowledging God’s unopposed goodness. Jesus knew that God was the One and Only Mind and Life, and to condemn and judge was to acknowledge and accept a power and presence apart from God, good, and to attempt to separate man from His Creator.

Take this loving advice from the Master and utilize it toward others and also most diligently toward yourself. Are you living your life or judging it? Are you honoring yourself as a child of God or condemning yourself as some mistaken, miserable mortal? Are you lovingly forgiving your human ignorances and embracing yourself with the Truth that reforms and informs, naturally and lovingly?

Release yourself from the need to judge and be judged. Leaving this unnecessary activity behind will give you the time, energy, enthusiasm, and ability to really live and to give—joyously, freely, productively, gratefully!
