“My Righteous Father, although the world has not known you, I have known you, and these have known that you have sent Me. And I have revealed to them your Name, and I am revealing it, so that the love with which you have loved me shall be in them, and I shall be in them.” (John 17: 25-26, Aramaic Bible in Plain English)
You can just feel the love in this prayer. Jesus clearly knew well and absolutely adored God, His Father. He was devoted to listening and following God in all that he said and did. And Jesus’ prayers always feel so heartfelt and full of grateful joy and peace. Prayer was not a desperate act. It was a treasured experience, the very best of times.
Jesus reacquainted himself with God in this prayer, recognizing afresh his own nature as God’s child with a mission to share God’s goodness with all. Then he embraced his followers in this prayer. Jesus had shared the good news that we are all God’s children and that God is Love. Now he was asserting, in this tender conversation with God, his deep desire that the great love he felt toward God and from God, would be known by all whom he had taught.
This prayer includes us today. The Christ has revealed God’s true name—Love—to each of us. We can feel this beautiful Truth that seems hidden from worldly material thought. We can accept the power of Jesus’ prayer and what it means for our lives.
Jesus knew his Father-Mother was righteous, wholly good and just. He revealed that God’s divine demand for one and all is that we know God fully, that we truly feel and express His abundant, perfect, healing Love.
