“The commandments, ‘Do not commit adultery; do not commit murder; do not steal; do not desire what belongs to someone else’—all these, and any others besides, are summed up in the one command, ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’  If you love others, you will never do them wrong; to love, then, is to obey the whole Law.” (Romans 13: 9-10, Good News Translation)

It’s simple, if not always easy. This one powerful Truth held in thought and acted upon is true obedience. All the moral laws that God revealed to Moses are naturally followed as we stick to the basic principle of the Christ-message: Love one another.

If we start with Love, we start with God. This means we begin with Truth, with wisdom, and with power. The commandments aren’t rules that limit us. They are empowering. They set us free to be our true selves, God’s children, and all that means. They give us dominion, safety, control, peace, joy, success. To be and behave like the sons and daughters of God hands us the keys to the kingdom and the invitation to dwell in it with authority and gratitude.

The law of Love is the Law. If we love one another, drawing upon that boundless love of God within us, we wouldn’t ever want to do harm to another in any way. We would not want them to suffer or wish to take their good from them.

With love for others as well as for ourselves, comes respect. It means we care that another feels well, whole, valued. It also means that we understand that we, too, are well, whole, and valued. We don’t need to compete for that. Love is infinite. There is enough to go around.

Let’s be law-abiding. Let’s know it is right and natural to Love. This obedience satisfies, blesses, and sets us free.
