Daily Inspiration, March 23rd, 2023

“Observe how Christ loved us. His love was not cautious but extravagant. He didn’t love in order to get something from us but to give everything of himself to us. Love like that.” (Ephesians 5: 2, the Message Bible)

Let’s love like Christ! Paul seems in awe of this wonderful manner of love that Jesus so beautifully expressed toward his followers and toward mankind. This love had a divine source and more than met the human need for affection. It was an extravagant gift without any hesitation or condition.

We are capable of loving in this way as well. As we are conscious of God’s Love for us and claim its presence, we feel the boundless nature of Love and have no fear of its loss or lack. We can give of it freely and often.

This fearless loving joys in its own limitlessness. We can release our sense of self altogether, as Jesus did and as his disciples were eager to emulate. We can set aside the concerns over what we can get or even what we might lose by loving, and simply love. We can give everything of ourselves to others, not by forced charity but from a genuine heart.

We may not be able to achieve this immediately, but as we pause and reflect on our Christly example, we can begin to love like that. One moment, one golden opportunity at a time.
