“Think long; think hard. When you are angry, don’t let it carry you into sin. When night comes, in calm be silent…Entrust yourself to the Eternal.” (Psalms 4: 4-5, the Voice Translation)
We can trust the Eternal. We can release our anger and our fears to God’s care. We can take a grateful pause for contemplation before we behave in ways that do not dignify us and that may cause more harm than good.
When we get riled or frustrated, feel defensive or accusatory, it is healing and ultimately more constructive to let our emotions simmer down. And rather than taking time to ruminate, to revisit troubling situations and restoke our anger (as we may be especially tempted to do in the night hours), let’s instead be calm and silent.
Allow the Truth some time to bring you peace, solutions, rest. Let God enfold you in His Love and let that powerful goodness ease tension and allow for the natural influx of reason and revelation. Let’s not make bad things worse by our focus on evil. Instead, let’s rest our sweet selves in God’s purpose, one meant to keep us calm, safe, fruitful, healthy, and happy.
