“And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart.” (Ezekiel 36: 26, New Living Translation)
We can be prepared for grace. God wants us to know Him. He wants us to experience divine Love in our lives. Anything that might hinder the acceptance of that gift must be done away with, replaced with a new receptivity.
We may already feel we are tender-hearted, but there might be certain areas in our thinking or behavior where we are reactive, stubborn, prideful, defensive, or cynical. This stoniness is not doing us any favors. It is also not natural to us. Our true hearts are tender, ready to love, forgive, be grateful.
God’s Love is ready to be realized. As we let our guard down with Him, stay humble and open, we begin to feel that hardness melt away and our true gentle, sweet, embracing nature come to light. We recognize that our willfulness is not comfortable at all. It makes life harsh and ugly. Whereas a willingness to listen, to love, and to be loved without judgment or fear, gives us a new spirit and a life that feels lighter, brighter, and righter!
