“Humble yourselves [with an attitude of repentance and insignificance] in the presence of the Lord, and He will exalt you [He will lift you up, He will give you purpose].” (James 4: 10, Amplified Bible)
Humility gives us a boost!
When we relinquish our egos and recognize a greater presence and power, we gain a higher view. We enjoy a feeling of uplift, a buoyant sense of being. Giving up pride and willfulness, we can experience a freedom from burden, a release to God’s loving and powerful purpose.
This humbling does require repentance—a change of thinking, where the focus turns from self to God, from sense to Soul, from matter to Spirit. This attitude of “insignificance,” as this version amplifies, is not about debasement. It is about subjugating a sense of personal importance and control, to the greater glory of God’s goodness and rightness for one and all.
When we are humble, God’s true purpose becomes clear. Preconceived ideas and judgments about ourselves, others, and our lives, dissolve and God’s intention is revealed. Our humility allows God to work in us and with us, lifting us out of fear and doubt and into confidence, true fulfillment, gratitude, and joy.
