“…make it your top priority to live a life of peace with harmony in your relationships, eagerly seeking to strengthen and encourage one another.” (Romans 14: 19, the Passion Translation)

Relationships are certainly at the top of our lists in terms of what is important to us. Whether it is a working relationship, family, friends, or a romantic partner, our lives often revolve around how well we are getting along.

And while we don’t always have the ability or the right, even, to change others to suit our own desires, we can begin with a purpose and mindset that is powerful to bring about harmony. We can consciously choose peace. We can decide to promote unity, instead of being disagreeable or judgmental, or even expecting others to behave badly.

Instead, we can start with the recognition of our natural oneness with God, with Love, and seek and expect peace. We can encourage each other rather than competing for attention, recognition, or the last word. And we can listen to others openly, willing to hear their ideas and to find a peaceful resolution even when we don’t fully understand or agree.

Let’s make it a top priority to eagerly live in peace with one another. God has made us capable of this. It is our right and our joy!
