“And that’s about it, friends. Be cheerful. Keep things in good repair. Keep your spirits up. Think in harmony. Be agreeable. Do all that, and the God of love and peace will be with you for sure.” (II Corinthians 13: 11, Message Bible)
Paul wrapped up his message to the Corinthians, his friends, with these wonderful instructions. These thoughts are indeed a recipe for success and satisfaction.
Being cheerful is so vital. Of course, he’s not talking about being falsely chipper, but about finding within us, as much as we can, that natural place of joy and positivity. It really comes down to the idea of giving. When we think of those around us instead of focusing too much on self, then it is simply a kindness to be upbeat.
Paul also recommends that we sustain good relations with others. We want to keep a watchful eye that we don’t neglect what needs attending. We can stay hopeful, knowing that God is guiding, that progress is His law, and be ready for blessings. And we can honor God by living harmoniously with others, being open and receptive, and allowing the higher ideal to emerge that settles and blesses one and all.
All this thinking and behavior is not a stretch. It’s natural for us as reflections of God. And by being ourselves, awake and aware, we do feel that ever-present love and peace with us for sure.
