Daily Inspiration, September 14th

zeal

“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.” (Romans 12: 11, New International Version)

I love the word “zeal.” It connotes a great enthusiasm and eagerness toward a cause or endeavor, along with a focused sort of diligence about that ideal. This quality can be a real asset, but it is at its best and most successful when it is spiritual—when the fire that stirs us to action comes from God and His purpose.

This spiritual fervor may need re-igniting at times. We can have a sincere desire to serve a cause or intention that has dawned on us through God’s inspiration and a true calling. But, there may be times when we lose that intensity of devotion and zealous joy about that holy idea that once meant the world to us. The mortal mind will try to make mundane and unimportant the very thing that would bring us real freedom and contentment and that the world also so much needs.

Remember why you are “serving the Lord.” Stay connected to the reason that you fell in love with the healing Truth, that Christ-message that declares Life as Love, as goodness, as unity, harmony, and immortality. Remind yourself that the daily tasks, the thought and prayer and attention, are all about something big, beautiful, and saving.

Reclaim that natural zeal—that fervor God rightly gave you—and serve His loving purpose with your original grateful expectancy and excitement and with His promise of fruitfulness!
