“The wisdom that comes from God is first utterly pure, then peace-loving, gentle, approachable, full of tolerant thoughts and kindly actions, with no breath of favouritism or hint of hypocrisy. And the wise are peace-makers who go on quietly sowing for a harvest of righteousness—in other people and in themselves.” (James 3: 17-18, J.B. Phillips New Testament)

God’s wisdom includes all that is peaceful and also powerful. His intelligent guidance is kind and good, full of Love and the certainty of Truth. There is nothing in God’s Mind that is ignorant, partial, unclear, confused, or unbalanced. God is perfect Love, divine affection, and incapable of mistake. This Love is not human love to be biased and jealous and fearful.

God’s wisdom is absolutely pure and easy and natural. We can trust it and turn to this Mind to guide us toward what is right for us and for all. Peace is the desired end, and starting with God, it is where we can also gratefully begin.

To be wise is to rely on God to control and care for all. It is to dwell in that natural and necessary peace of mind that is not only pleasant, but powerful in its serene resolve, persistent in Love, and in the pure effectiveness that comes of sincerity. When we trust God’s wisdom, we are led to appreciate what He has given us and to continue cultivating peace for ourselves and for our world as well.

Laura, I find it delightful that you use such a broad collection of o bibles in these terrific articles.

I’m so glad, Paul! I find study in other bibles opens me up to a new way of thinking about familiar quotes. There are SO many inspired and beautiful translations, and being a poet, like you!, makes it even more inviting to hear not only the message, but the poetry that makes the message sing! Thank you for your comments and blessings to you.
