“To material sense, earth is matter; to spiritual sense, it is a compound idea.” (Science and Health, page 585)

Our earth is worthy of our love and our grateful praise. It may appear to the material senses that it is a bunch of matter taking on various forms and subject to the elements of time and climate and circumstances. These days it may appear that our earth is enduring extremes and that the end is not so far off.

But spiritual sense redefines our earth for us. This earth is not a pitiable and limited mass of matter. It is a compound spiritual idea, made of the elements and ingredients and substance of God’s design, a sphere that has no beginning or end, for it is God’s creation, the evidence of His enduring harmony and perfection.

The earth we walk upon and call our home is a limited view of the heaven that God gave us in which to dwell. The sins of sense testimony may have closed our eyes to our Eden, but that doesn’t mean that we aren’t still in it, still in God’s beautiful dwelling place, a garden of His own lovely and enduring qualities big enough for all to dwell in comfortably and meeting His standards of integrity, goodness, timeless wholeness and fruitfulness.

Let’s use our spiritual eyes and love our earth not so much because it needs our love, but because it expresses God’s Love.
