“Step by step will those who trust Him find that ‘God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.’” (Science and Health, page 440)
Trust God, one step at a time. Allow yourself to lean more each day on His presence and power and Love. We are never walking toward perfection and peace. We are walking in it and with it. Each moment contains our safety and guidance and comfort. Wherever we go and however we get there, God’s goodness is with us and never leaves us alone.
Our refuge is not a location. Our strength is not a person or a human sense of bravery. Our refuge and strength is God and His powerful and tender qualities abide with us at all times because we can’t be separate from Him, from that divine Mind that keeps us always in His thoughts. No matter what trouble may appear, His help is at hand, and it is right, effective, loving.
If we don’t feel we can fully trust in God, in spiritual Truth over material sense testimony, we can take it step by step. We can progressively, day by day, one precious occasion at a time, gain a better understanding of His perfect presence and care. We can consciously pause to listen for His word, to feel His protection and guidance. Soon we will recognize that we no longer need to seek out God’s presence (the presence of good) as if it is lacking. We will instead find ourselves starting each day, taking each step, in grateful awareness that God was there with us before we awoke, will guide and protect through our day, and tuck us in lovingly at night.

Thanks Laura. I find this so helpful. I was watching a football game yesterday and the lesson you are giving us here is so applicable. The winning team doesn’t always score on big plays of 100 yards, but most wins are based on play after play, a few yards here, more yards on the next play. Step by step, here a little, there a little, until the goal is reached. And the resolve and confidence displayed even when the victory may seem improbable, is a lesson for us all. Thanks for this inspiring message. A TOUCHDOWN!!!!!
Thanks, Pat! I love the football analogy. Just perfect! Big hug to you and yours!
